I'm a semi-professional; I do a lot of studio work and play live often as well. I got the Burgundy Mist finish and really like it. The pickguard has a slight metallic sparkle to it; it's not solid black, in case that's not obvious from the picture (I like the look of it and think the solid ones are too plastic-ish looking). The set up was great right out of the box. The neck was straight and the action was nice and low. I tweaked a saddle on the low E string to fix its intonation but the others were good to go. The tremolo feels fine, but I'll eventually adjust the springs (two screws) to pull the tremolo away from the body just a bit so I can both raise and lower the pitch with the bar. I've been band rehearsing with it and there's no reason to change the pickups out that I can see. The humbucker sounds great for leads, the middle pickup works great for rhythm parts and the spanky sound with both the neck and middle pickups combined sounds amazing both alone and through a wah. You'd be better off buying some new pedal than changing the pickups. It stays in tune as well as any other guitar I've owned (Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, ESP, Seagull, Guild). I compared this to my G&L Legacy (American) strat; and the fret edges were just slightly rougher on the squier (a complete non-issue). The single coils are a little brighter on the Squier than the G&L. This seems to be a friggin' amazing deal so far.

Somebody mentioned the slightly closer string spacing at the nut. I agree that it's a little compressed up there, but I don't notice it when I'm playing at all; only when I look up at the nut when I'm not wearing the guitar. If you're still reading this, you should order one of these things and start enjoying your new guitar.

.I've had many Fender/Squier electrics in my life, but none that have been this good. I ordered the Lake Placid Blue color that looks even more amazing when you hold it in your hands. Sounds awesome through my Fender champion amp.

What a Value! Great quality, playability and tone. This is my fifth Squier currently, and it holds it's own with the CV's, VM's, Std.'s without losing face.
At any level, you can't go wrong... Great out of the well packed shipping box, Great set-up, really nice fret work, Beautiful Burgundy Mist finish, and really versatile tone from it's ceramic pickups. Full sized pots, even the CVs dont come with those. Plus the gold and black Squier headstock logo, really classes it up... Bravo!

I've been playing, with almost 50 years experience... This is a Great guitar at this price!

The moto pickguard is totally my Taste!

I would, and will buy another, they are that NICE!!!

.I can't believe other comments compare it to an American made strat, It's not even in the same ball park as a Mexican made strat. The Specifications says gloss neck and it is satin finish, the frets are small not medium jumbo they claim to be. The nut is 1 1/2 inch not 1 11/16 inch like an American or Mexican made. The neck pocket is almost 2 3/16 just a little thinner the body is light weight and thinner than American/ Mexican made. The fret markers on the side of the neck are not in the fret board they are in the maple part of the neck. The Humbucker sounds okay, but the single coils are not too good. If you want to buy a guitar for a kid to start learning and don't want to spend the money for a good guitar this one is good enough for that.

.I bought the burgandy mist finish model,I have alot of stratocasters,MIM,American made etc..Fat strats and standards,This model gets the most playing time, I use it more than the rest of my guitars. The neck feels great, sounds great,no reason to change the pickups on it,I did have it set up,but very little had to be adjusted on it.It stays in tune, but I can't comment on the trem ,because I dont use the trem on any of my strats.I have used this guitar for jamming and recording and it has sounded great, stayed in tune, and held up in the studio. It's a great guitar and the finish was flawless.Buy One and Rock On!!

.i got this guitar in the "burgundy mist" finish. more of a very light plum purple in metallic to me. i have a lot of experience with budget instruments. i buy them, and overhaul them to make them play tons better. the guitar showed up at my door 2 days after it was shipped, which was awesome. it was in perfect condition. the finish had no flaws. i also own a squier bullet hh, so i have another squier to compare to. the tuning machines on the bullet were garbage, but the ones on the affinity seem smooth, precise, and solid. the "syn. bone" nut is also smooth and cut nicely. to my surprise the fret edges were also smooth. beautiful rosewood and pearloid dot inlays for the fretboard. the bridge saddles on the affinity are less substantial in mass compared to the bullet, so that was a big surprise. the maple neck had a sterile white look. the 5-way switch does what it's supposed to, and so do the pots. the pickups sound fine tonally, but they're a little weak for my personal taste. the intonation was almost spot on, with the exception of the b string being slightly out. the string action was a bit high, but some truss rod and saddle adjustment fixed that right up. the neck seems a tad bit more beefy compared to the bullet, but that might just be me. the pots are full sized, but dont seem to be higher then average quality. i added 2 springs to the trem, did a full setup, put power slinky strings on (the factory strings were actually fine, just too light for me), fixed up that sterile white neck with a little brown shoe polish. all in all, this is a pretty awesome guitar. and if you have the experience to properly set it up, (or the money to pay someone to do it) pick one up and you won't be let down.

.I was first attracted to this guitar because of how it looked. I bought the burgundy mist one and it looks even better in person than in the picture. I sold my old electric because I usually play acoustic now, but I missed my electric, so I found this one and wasn't wanting to spend a ton of money as I don't play it much and this guitar is perfect! The quality is much better than I would have expected for the price and I always get compliments on it. Also I found this guitar at a local shop and it was cheaper on here and has free shipping!

.just bought for a back up..(olympic white)ended up playing 1/2 a gig with it..double coil gives me extra punch on certain songs..i'm keeping this, but will soon buy the Squire MV soon also.set up was spot on..just needs future tuners.nice neck.no buzz.

.I bought this guitar for my daughter to learn on, thinking it's cheap enough and I can get her a better guitar latter.Well I was surprised to see that this guitar is built as good as my mexican strat. The body is thicker than the regular Affinity strats,it's the same as my mim strat. And the neck feels amazing, the pickups are good too. This guitar is solid. For a beginner you don't need to do anything. For the more experienced player I would change the pickups and the bridge saddles and maybe the nut and have a good setup on it. I got the white one, and the finish is flawless. These Affinity guitars are built in China, like the classic vibe series. So the quality is very good. I love the American guitars but it seems China is the new American standard. So if you are thinking of getting a low end strat then buy this guitar, because it can easily be upgraded are leave it as is. Either way it's a great guitar for the money.
