i'd recomend this for anybody,,i am 64 yrs old and started playing when i was 13
the standard i have is a sunburst with a maple fingerboard..one of the earlier models..it looks and feels liike a '57 strat..i am planing on a classic vibe model soon too...i have a classic vibe tele' and it is a dream guitar..exceptional...all the hardware on this guitar is fine..cant find anything i would change
couldn't ask for more at this price point,,,i read one review where some bozo complained about the strings in the quality rating....you always should change the factory strings right away..and dont complain about the set up..this is a lower end guitar, but the quality is top notch..set it up for your needs..
you cant get more for your monwy...the only one better is the classic vibe

.I have been a musician well over 50yrs. and, have owned and played many guitars of all brands. This particular Strat just blew me away! I picked this up on a Black Friday deal and, it was sweet. MF always seems to come through with a good deal at just the right time. I have owned several Fender Strats MIA, MIM, and Squier, and, this one is really a Great Guitar. Granted it is not an American model and, does have a few limitations but, the value of this instrument can't be beat! Truthfully in the Squier line you need to move up from the bullet and, the Affinity to this model Standard then good things will happen. This instrument required very little setup. Set the action and, no fret buzz, adjusted the trem just a little, intonation was spot on, stretched the strings and, retuned 3 times, put a little No.2 lead pencil lead in the nut grooves, Left the truss alone and, plugged it in to my Fender Twin and, cut her loose---Perfection. Squier has really stepped up their quality and, the color on this instrument has to be seen in person to be appreciated! It is Beautiful !!! I just really can't say enough about this guitar so I'll just suggest that you check one out and, see for yourself. All the good and, positive reviews should tell you something.

For years, I've been hearing my friends saying that Squiers suck. Well, this model should prove them wrong as far as I'm concerned. Ever since I got this last week, I can't put it down. I swapped a ESP LTD M-15 for this, and it was definately worth it. I also own a 2006 USA made, Fender 60th Anniversary Commemorative Strat and IMO, this guitar has the same tone as that one. If you're into Blues and Classic Rock, then this one's for you. This is a well priced alternative for those who can't afford a MIM Fender Standard or a Squier Classic Vibe model and I would not have any problem buying another one to add to my arsenal.
Mine is a 2008 Indonesian made model, which has the Black Metallic finish and the Maple neck and fretboard along with 22 Medium sized frets. The tuners are stock squier die cast, which do a great job of mainting tuning stability. The bridge is a 2 point system which has modern style bridge saddles which IMO, are much easier on the palm of your hand while you're playing, and are easier to adjust. The pickups are Alnico single coils and you have a 3 way pup switch along with 1 Volume and 2 tone controls.
I am surprised at how well made this guitar is. I couldn't find any flaws in it at all. The frets are perfectly rolled on the neck and the body has a nice weight to it. The only alterations I did to it were to, put some Aluminum shielding tape underneath the pickguard on the bodt cavity, and to install a Sprague Orange 022 Cap on one of the tone knobs. I was going to consider changing the pickups, but I think they're just fine. IMO, they have a nice classic 1960's type tone to them. I reset the intonation after putting a set of 10's on it, and now it stays in perfect tune.
I can't believe the price on this guitar. Last summer I made the mistake of getting rid of a 2006 MIM Fender Strat which I had for 4 years and, this guitar sounds just as good, if not better than it.

.Back in 2000 I bought a Chinese made Squire standard Fat strat (two humbuckers) which, I was very impressed with in every way except the paint job wasnt top notch but it wasnt bad either. The neck felt great, no sharp frets sticking out and it sounded really good. So now, eleven year later I thought its time for a single-coil strat and I didnt want to pay a Fender price. So I looked into the Squire standard Strats.
After reading many good reviews on them which I wasnt surprised at all since I was very pleased with my own Squires Standard Fat Strat, I decided to order a cherry burst one with single coil pups.

When it arrived and I opened the box I was pleasantly surprised by how much prettier it was than its picture.
Beautiful stain finish and beautiful wood-grain.
I put it through my usual close and careful inspection. I kept on looking and looking.
NOT A SINGLE FLAW OR IMPERFECTION. NONE!!!
The craftsmanship, fit and finish is top notch.
100% perfect.
Yes thats 100% and not 99%.
I was amazed!
How can that be? Thats so rare.
I kid you not the fit and finish to this Chinese Squire is better than my American made fenders strat and Tele.
Action on this guitar is awesome, fret work is superb, feel of the neck is fast and the sound is that very famous and loved strat sound.
I bought this strat on sale but I wouldnt hesitate to pay its full regular price, ITS WORTH IT!

At the same time I ordered this strat I also ordered a Squire standard Telecaster which was made in Indonesia and it did have that famous Tele sound but the craftsmanship on it wasnt as good as this Chinese made standard Strat, so the Tele went back to the merchant.

I can honestly tell you that Im more impressed with the fit & finish of this Squire than my US made strat. The US made strat has a bit hotter pickups though.

Im sold on Chinese made Squires.
3 single coil pups, 5-way switch selector, fast and smooth satin finish neck, rosewood finger board, and great fret work.
Top notch, better than my US made strat.
Excellent deal!

.Well, I could have expected Fender to send Jeff Beck over for a few lessons---but he was busy. This guitar plays as well as an expensive model (I started in 1965 with a 1962 strat----could have bought a house with what it's worth now!!). Point is---YOU play the guitar. If you can't flame this model, a high priced model won't help. You should have it "set up" though--little adjustments--new strings. Have fun with it. You won't regret it. PS I never give a 5 star rating to anything. Cheers!

.My Son and I each have one of these, Mine is a SSS made in 2001 and my Son's is SSH made in 2007, both from Indonesia. Both were bought new, I have owned mine since late 2000, my Son's since 2009. Nice finish, very solid. Both stay in tune unless you do a lot of tremolo work. Twin piviot bridge is great, I like it way better than the vintage one on my MIM Strat. The single coils are not Hot, but, that is the way stock Strat coils sound on any regular Strat. The Bridge humbucker on the Fat is decently hot, my Son plays Iron Maiden with his and it works great. We love these guitars and they are worth more than the asking price. I highly recommend Squier Standard series and higher models.

.I have had this thing (black metallic, maple fretboard) for a short time and it rocks!

-Neck: The reason I bought a Strat in this price range is I wanted something with an unfinished neck, and this is perfect for me. The neck is thin, fast, smooth and non-finished, which I love! The only thing about the neck is the frets are a little bit sharp, and they kind of stick off the edge of the fretboard. But this is really no big deal.

-Body: Made out of agathis, the weight and feel of it is fantastic. I'm a Les Paul player of almost three years, and I wanted something different, and this is just what I was looking for.

-Hardware: Still has factory made hardware on it, but I don't care. The bridge, machine heads, pickguard, pickups, knobs and whammy bar all work awesome. The only thing I really don't like about this guitar is the whammy bar gets in the way when you want to do some palm-muting stuff, but I'll get over that soon. And even the strings; I'm going to swap the factory strings for some Ernie Ball Slinkies soon, but until then, these Fender gauge strings are holding up really well.

-Sound: People say single-coils can't handle lots of distortion, and they're right. That's why I use as overdrive pedal, and it sounds fantastic. It kind of sounds like Dream Theatre's John Petrucci (my hero) if you ad some flanger to it, which is quite cool.

-Overall: Like I said before, I'm an avid Les Paul fan, but this guitar works just as well if not better than my Epiphone Les Paul. I would definitely recommend this to anybody.

.I bought this for my Son-In-Law to learn on.... Before he received it, I adjusted the truss rod properly (not done at the factory...they're miserable), adjusted the bridge to match, and the tonation....Played it LIVE on stage, and it was not bad at all. For the money, it's one of the BEST bargains out there...and a NICE fit and finish.

.Some people can get pretentious about the Squire label and sometimes rightfully so. Some of the really low end Squires i've tried I was not too impressed but I like the Standard alot. Bought mine in a music shop in Oregon and the sales guy had me close my eyes while he played a Fender Strat and the Squire Strat and sound wise i could not tell the difference. They have a good feel and look too. Nice finish. Felt solid and well built. I'm not like a ripping lead guitarist or anything, mostly just strumming and vocals, and for that this guitar performs really well. If you are a guitar hero shredder you might find some nuances you don't like, but overall I'm really happy with mine. Great guitar for the price.
Squier Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar Antique Burst Rosewood Fretboard
.Ok... had some strats in the past and sold them. Recently it was a mexi made. After rolling with an Ibanez RG for a while, I got the itch for some bluesy single coil. Found a special edition squier standard (cherry sunburst) at a local shop and loved it. Off the rack it played wonderfully. Action was great and it threw "that strat tone". It will need some tweeks via a pro setup,, but for the price I paid (big sale) I feel like I stole it. I could hardly put it down. The craftsmanship and look is top notch. The special edition is breath taking color wise. Wood grain visible due to the light lacquer used. Its an alder body with a 2 point trem. After some playing around with the tuning.. its holding pretty good with medium vibrato. The strings are trashed obviously (9's) and are too light and will be upgraded.. but overall people.. this is great. The controls and pu selector feel a litte flimsy..but thats a cheap upgrade if need be. Very surprsied with the pu's. They are very quiet and handle gain with no problem. But clean.. it oozes that strat tone I have always wanted..
