The frets themselves were not a deal-breaker, as I could have had a fret polish and setup done for about 70 bucks here at a local shop-- and I did consider that because there were a lot of things to like about this guitar. The Duncan designed pickups are probably the quietest (in terms of noise) I have ever played in a Strat. But they also were the problem for me. If you go to the Squier website and watch the video of this guitar, the one I was shipped sounded -exactly- like that, so there's something to be said for consistency.

I'll put it this way: If Stevie Ray spank is what you're after, you will like this guitar. If Trower silk is your aim, you probably won't. It's a pretty bright sounding guitar, even for a Strat.

I sent mine back and got a Classic Vibe 60s, which is a much better guitar -for me-. Much smoother frets and smooth vintage tone with the CV.

.I have owned 2 American made Strats, and each one I had to spend a lot more to get them playable. The same can be said about Gibson and Epiphone Les Pauls. I have a Classic Vibe 60's Strat, an Austin Strat and a Jay Turser Strat. All of which were almost perfectly set up. A few adjustments here and there. Awesome guitars. I recently purchased a Vintage Modified Strat, and I love it, too. I've been playing for 26 years. A small truss rod adjustment is all it took to make it cry, whisper and scream. I will never spend huge amounts on a guitar again. A professional player should be able to make any guitar sing. It is a guitar fit for any level of player.

.I bought this guitar on a whim based upon the rave reviews and great tone in Youtube videos. But I wasn't prepared for how good a guitar I'd be getting. This thing is amazing! Super low action, fast slinky neck, perfect fretwork, superb sounding Duncan Designed pickups, great fit and finish, glossy tinted neck, and vintage style tuners and trem that stay perfectly in tune, as long as you don't try to do wild dive bombs. I've owned American, Japanese, Mexican, Korean, Chinese, and now Indonesian Strats over the years, and this is one of the 3 or 4 best of all of them. If you can't afford a Mexican or American made Strat, this guitar will not disappoint. Incredible instrument for such a low price. Kudos to Fender for offering superb instruments at every price point. And great service, as always, from Custom Guitar's Friend. Super fast free shipping, to top it all off.

.I really like this guitar. I truly believe it stands right there with the MIM strats. For the money, there's not much of a difference. I love the 101 Duncan designed pickups and I was pleased that my guitar arrived in perfect condition. I really think you would enjoy this one for [$]. I got mine for [$]. Once you move beyond the fact that this is a Squier, you would be amazed at the playability and quality of this guitar. Squier is putting out some really good stuff now for the money.

.This is another home run squier. I bought it to hot rod out but it is surprisingly well built, the pups are really nice and stratty, the neck and frets are decent. It plays great. Of course it needd a set up out of the box but this series is the best bang for the buck strat out there. If you are looking at theseand undecided , get one, before the price goes up ...just like the CV series did

.I Got This Squier By Fender Vintage Modified Stratocaster In The Vintage Blonde Color 10 Days Ago,And I Must Say, I'm Overwelmed ! By The Sound It Puts Out. The Feel Of The Neck Is Pheonominal! Really Sweet! And The Overall Look Is Excellent. One Of My Friends A Week Ago Said It's A Really Awesome Electric Guitar. It's Just Got Such An Incredible Sound In Any Position Using The 5-Way Switch. And I've Been Playing For 46 Years And Have Owned Fender Strats In The Past, And This One By Far Puts Those And Everything Else In The Past And Just Leaves Them In The Dust. You Need To Try This Guitar, You'll Be Glad You Did.

.I have played 35+ years, and have loved Strat's and spent lots of money on some good one's. I'd have to say this model compares to the MIJ early 80's models at an affordable price even a caveman can afford. I only wish they would have put a full sized block in them, as that is the 1st thing I did and what an improvement. Everything else will stay stock. It is a no brainer choice over the MIM's!

.I had my eye on one of these for quite some time but was hesitant to pull the trigger because I figured for the price it can't be that great, despite all of the positive reviews. Well. I'm here to tell you that all of the reviews were correct. This is a true Strat with all the quack and chime you'd expect. Of course, being an import guitar for not much money there are some things to be aware of. The pickup switch seems to be a little flimsy and probably won't stand up to a tremendous amount of abuse. The trem block is rather small and cheap metal. The pots are probably on the low end of the quality scale as well, but they all work, and I don't abuse my gear, so none of that bothers me. And besides, for the price, with the money you save an upgrade of these components is certainly doable. The neck feels great. Fit and finish are solid. Frets are well done. The Duncan Designed SC-101 pickups are alnico V's. They sound great with all five positions offering up the expected Stratty tones. The tuners are the vintage style slot/hole type which I must admit I've grown rather fond of. Tremolo bridge is the Vintage Synchronized, not my favorite but I never use it anyway so it doesn't really matter. Fender seems to be big on making their new guitars with the BIG 70's style headstock. I'm not a huge fan, but it's certainly not a deal breaker. This series is probably a step down from the Classic Vibe series as far as the overall specs, basswood body in lieu of alder, Duncan Designed p/u's instead of the Toneriders (or whatever those awesome pickups in the CV series are). But you're also only paying two thirds the price and still getting a really good Strat. And besides, I'd compare the CV's favorably to American Special, or even Standard Strats. These VM's I would say remind me of the earlier MIM Fender guitars. Even now, I'd still probably opt for a VM over a MIM because the MIM Standards all come with ceramic pickups. Overall I'm extremely happy with this guitar.

.I just received this Squier VM strat in vintage blonde, and it is absolutely wonderful! I went through this thing with a fine tooth comb, and purposely tried to find something wrong with it. I did not succeed. I was looking for a reason to kick myself for buying a Squier. Instead I commended myself. VERY satisfied, especially considering these are so reasonably priced. It's always nice to come out ahead once in a while.
Squier Vintage Modified Stratocaster Electric Guitar 3-Color Sunburst Rosewood Fretboard
.Aside from the name "Squire" on the headstock, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this guitar. I am perfectly happy with the playability and sound for my purposes! Using it for all local gigs and it works as well as my (over-priced) Robert Cray signature Strat in all respects. If I want to upgrade the pick-ups, I'll simply stick a Texas Heat set of pickups on and rock out, but right now it's just fine. Why spend the money for a regular Strat when these guitars are available at these prices? Bragging rights perhaps? Get over your ego and buy a Squire - you'll never look back! By the way, the setup was fine right out of the box! A set of Doug Gilmore strings and away we go!
