Lightweight and resilient, Ovation's scalloped "X" bracing and AA-grade solid spruce top lend tremendous power to the bass' soundboard. A maple neck satisfies the need for speed, while the OCP-1K pickup provides exceptional balance note-to-note, even in alternative tunings.

The Ovation Elite TX bass guitar's cutaway design, 34" scale length, and 1-9/16" nut width provide comfort for intricate movements up and down the walnut fretboard. The rosewood bridge adds clarity to the tone, and the maple neck provides strength to this solid and surprisingly lightweight bass.

At the heart of the Ovation Elite TX is an impressive and intuitive electronics system, that lets you dial in your ideal sound, tune up, and amplify quickly and effortlessly. Designed in collaboration with Al DiMeola and Melissa Etheridge, the Ovation OP-PRO preamp combines state-of-the-art audio quality with guitarist-friendly features that should please even the most discriminating bass guitarist. As soon as I opened the box, I saw the headstock was damaged and there were other imperfections on the fret board and body. When I tried to make an exchange I was told that it was the last one and was offered a very small discount instead which I declined.

.This is a good sounding and playing bass. I find mine extremely well-finished as well (actually flawless). Much less cumbersome than a typical acoustic bass guitar as the ovation back definitely gets more volume and sustain for its size--and price--than regular style acoustic basses. The neck is substantial, but comfortable and fast, with normal electric guitar action and string spacing.

Unplugged, it sounds responsive and loud, good for living room or porch practicing. Good volume, tone, and sustain, but the lowest notes are a bit bright. Plugged in, deep fundamentals open up and it sounds great. Very good electronics that bring out the best of the acoustic sound -- deep, rich, and clear. Responsive to different playing styles for surprising versatility, can sound aggressive when you dig in. Clean sounding three-band EQ adds variety. Worth considering if you want to add an acoustic-electric, especially if on sale. Price not out of line given the quality, but not cheap either for a specialty bass.
