In a nutshell, the Godin A11 Glissentar Electric Guitar is an 11-string, fretless, acoustic-electric instrument, strung with nylon strings and tuned to standard guitar tuning. Made to allow effortless mixing of Eastern and Western music, the Godin Glissentar is a creative blending of a guitar and an oud. All of its basic physical features-scale length, body size, depth, fingerboard radius, and string height-are standard guitar dimensions. The Eastern influence in the Glissentar A11 comes from the oud, an 11-string fretless lute still in use today throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Adapting to this new instrument is actually a great deal easier than it appears, with its familiar guitar-like feel and easily visible side position markers. The Glissentar A11 opens the door to microtonal playing as well as some incredible and unique sounds for adventurous musicians.

I have had this guitar for a couple years and it's beautiful. I enjoy jazz fusion and this adds the Shakti vibe to any piece. I recommend reviewing players on utube to see if this is really your source of expression.

i also recommend exploring the book with 2 cds - Arabic Musical Scales by Powers to discover some possibilites. i have nothing to do financially with this book so this is not a promo.

Explore Phyrgian and Aeolian linear treatments with lots of slides and tremolo. i hope this helps.
Built to the Godin standard of high quality at a great price. So what does one do with this guitar? For those who want to explore Eastern Oud style music or add some vindaloo into your groove this is a great choice.

.this was one of the funest instruments i have ever played. sounds great if your going for a middle eastern and indian sitar type sound. this is not an instrument to use on every song, but if you need something diffrent this is it.

.Over all, this is just an absolute gem of a guitar. It's more of a collector's piece however, in the sense that you're going to want some fretted guitars as well as this beauty, but for those with the cash, this guitar is an absolute steal.
This guitar certainly isn't for everyone and it isn't amazingly versatile in the traditional sense, but it is amazingly fun to play. It doesn't do chords so well, but that clearly isn't what it was built for. It's good for eastern-inspired leads and whatnot, and to that extent, this guitar is great! If you know some scales and some basic music theory, you will instantly fall in love with this guitar the first time you pick it up.
Build quality is typical Godin, as in incredible. I occaisonally read about people receiving badly-built Godin guitars, but I think that'll happen once in a blue moon if you buy a guitar from any company.
This guitar is vastly cheaper than I expected! I was interrested in testing one out at a local music store, sat down, and started playing with it without ever looking at the price tag. Only after I fell in love with it was I further blown away by how cheap this guitar is despite all the amazing features and quality.
