BUYER BEWARE! This bridge is not ready-to-install on your violin!

I've used a Barbera Twin Hybrid bridge for years for medium-venue playing, but after hearing a guest artist using the Fishman V-300, I was so impressed with the tone that I ordered one myself.

This bridge authentically reproduces the tone of your violin, and the standard thickness of the bridge means your violin will sound the same when as with a traditional bridge when you aren't plugged in (this compared to the thicker Barbera which effectively mutes the violin when not plugged in).

HOWEVER - This bridge will most likely require professional set-up for nearly everyone. Let me explain.
The bridge comes as an oversized blank. It is not pre-cut to standard 4/4 bridge size. There is approximately 3/8" of additional material at the top of the bridge that will have to be cut down and then grooves cut in it.
I am a contractor by day, highly skilled in trim and fine woodworking. Using the Barbera bridge as a template I marked the Fishman with a light line at the top. Then I used specialized woodworking tools to VERY carefully cut the bridge down to within 1/16" of the line. If you examine a bridge, it is made of very hard wood with the grain running horizontally, so extreme care and caution is advised to not cut off too much or too quickly. It is very easy to ruin an expensive piece of equipment.
Then I took 100-grit sandpaper and sanded it down to within 1/32" of the line. Finally, I used 600-grit sandpaper to finish it up, and buff the edges to give the slight roundover.
Next, using the Barbera template again, I marked the string locations, and again using specialized tools cut the notches, approximately 1/32" in depth.
After mounting on the violin, everything worked perfectly, so I am overall happy with the purchase. However, I feel that Custom Guitar's Friend should post a disclaimer on this product matching the Fishman website which says "Professional setup required."
