Well, I only gave it a 2.5 for features because there just aren't any. You plug in an play. I kind of like that nice and simple quality. So I guess in this case a 2.5 isn't bad. Now the quality is fantastic! It picks up every string evenly. It's super clear, and it doesn't hum or anything. It also picks up every little thing you do so be careful when you are playing. The tone is very usable and I think is easily tweaked by external controls. To me, it really sounds like the mando is louder and not colored by the pickup much. What I mean is, it just sounds as though it is acoustically louder; however, the pickup does remove a bit of the jangle. Like I said before it is VERY clear, but again the tone is great. I put the value at a 4 because i think it could be cheaper, after all, its only a bit of ebony with a piezo transducer in it, nothing crazy, but I have to say, I'm glad I chose this over many others that cost cheaper. You get what you pay for I guess.

.Full of excited to buy this, but very disappointed. Pickup effect is poor. Also drilled a hole in my mandolin. Loss of standard! I want to return.
Fishman M100 Mandolin Pickup
.The pickup itself is easy enough to install. I used a set of jeweler files to make the notches. The sound was just fine. Good tone without picking up too much of the pick "thump". However, the connection and mounting hardware are flimsy. A thin lead soldered inside and open-backed 1/4 standard jack and a clip screwed into the mando''s tailpiece. The clip wasn't tight enough to grip the jack, so I needed to wrap a few layers of electrical tape to get it snug. Not pretty, but functional. Single-screw design, however, acts as a pivot once loose, so it eventually flops around. Did anyone "field-test" this product?
