The Martin HD-28 is one of the most popular Martin acoustic guitars produced today. A recreation of Martin's legendary herringbone-style 28 guitars (the H in HD stands for herringbone), the HD-28 series is based on the iconic pre-war dreadnought Martin guitar, one of the many guitar construction innovations Martin developed throughout its long history. The legacy HD-28 features Martin's legendary scalloped X-bracing, while the new 2018 Martin HD-28 features forward-shifted, scalloped X-bracing. Scalloped X-bracing allows its Sitka spruce top to vibrate more freely. The results are booming volume and open tone. The forward-shifted X-bracing of the 2018 HD-28 produces additional clarity on the high end, and punchy, more defined bass.

''I've owned my HD 28 Sunburst for about a month now and have barely played any of my other guitars since bringing her home. I'm primarily a jazz player but have always wanted "my" acoustic guitar but (sound cheesy for sure) never fell in love with any I played. They either fought me up and down the neck, or sounded tight, too thin, too boomy, stuffy on and on. You can go to Martin's website and get all the spec's, but I find this guitar a joy to play. The scalloped bracing provides a very responsive top and you can play mellow and soft with great tone...but if you dig in and strum a bit harder sounds just explodes from this guitar. Push it a little too hard and the sound can get a bit mushy, but you really have to crank on it. If you need that high volume I'd go with the standard D 28 with the straight braces.

Fit and finish are top notch and the sunburst finish is really striking. Nice color blend on mine as Martin sometimes goes a bit too dark on the edges for my taste but bursts are like snowflakes...all a little different.Regardless of where you buy make sure to get the guitar setup after purchase. Martin ships them with medium gauge strings and a very high action to allow players to dial in the guitar to their personal tastes. Talk to the shop, or a local luthier about the styles you want to play and feel you're looking for and have it dialed in. Most GC's etc just take them out of the case and hang them on the wall without a setup so keep that in mind when play testing. I installed light gauge strings, had the bridge down shaved down a bit and a small adjustment at the nut and she almost plays herself.

If you do bit of research you'll hear about "The Martin Tone". Its real. Once you get that sound in your ear its hard to play other brands. The HD-28 has a distinct voice all the other builders are chasing...buy one and you'll hear it too.''
