Product Description

The left-handed Seagull Coastline Series S12 is a 12-String QI acoustic-electric dreadnought guitar that has the rich, full sound only a quality 12-string guitar can produce. With a warm mid-range tone and of course, the award winning craftsmanship and value for which Seagull is known, the S12 dreadnought guitar features an ultra thin semi-gloss finish, a select pressure-tested solid cedar top, and built-in Godin QI electonics that let you hit the stage fully loaded for any venue.

12-string guitars must endure a great deal of added neck stress. Seagull guitar's neck design offers superior stability, even on 12-string models tuned to concert pitch. The straight string pull of the tapered Seagull headstock is an especially big advantage when it comes to tuning a 12-string guitar and keeping it in tune.

Seagull Coastline guitars are one of the world's outstanding values. The back and sides
of Coastline series guitars are made from a 3-layer lamination of wild cherry wood. With a sound that lands somewhere between the mellow tone of a mahogany guitar and the bright sound of maple, wild cherry has proven itself to be an excellent tone wood. Grown locally, wild cherry is also an ecologically friendly choice. Coastline series guitars feature very smooth necks made from silver leaf maple.

The Godin EPM Quantum acoustic-electric guitar system is simple in design and outstanding in performance. This single source system features an exceptionally responsive saddle transducer carefully matched to side mount electronics with rotary volume, bass, and treble controls. The electronics and controls are packaged in a small and easy-to-use format complemented with a finely crafted pewter cover plate. In combination with the transducer, the EQ control range and frequency content have been specifically contoured to provide a very rich and full sound reproduction resulting in performance seen only in far more complex systems.

So: having no real choice (as a lefty who cannot spend $1799 on a guitar) simplifies things, but would you be happy with this? In my case the answer is not only Yes but wildly so: after 20 years of playing the Seagull S6 I bought a righthand Seagull 12+ and strung it lefthanded -- a trainwreck of bad intonation. Previously I'd done the same with a Yamaha 12. Nothing really worked. This is it: a real left-hand 12-string, with a built-in transducer to boot. Acoustically, it's the dream I wanted: chimy, pretty, and most of all IN TUNE. The built-in tuner works for all notes not just standard tuning. This is important since 12-strings should not be left in standard tuning (Leo Kottke recommends downtuning all strings a step). Through an amplifier, the transducer sounds surprisingly like the guitar itself, with maybe a little less bottom end. Most importantly, there was no buzz or hum. I gave 4 stars for features because there are two tone knobs instead of three or four, but can't say I've really missed them.I don't doubt that high-end 12-strings may sound warmer/better (again, Mr Kottke feels a 12 should be only subtly different from a 6) but it sounds fine to me, and makes me want to play more often. Performing with it has proven to favorably impress people even when my actual performance wasn't terribly good; it's hard to imagine a better recommendation than that :)

.I would recommend Seagull guitars to anyone that asks. It is playable and sweet sounding. It stays in tune, is easy to play and sounds like a 12 string should.
Have been looking for a 12 string to round out my collection of guitars and the Seagull jumped up and said pick me. After reading reviews and looking around till I found some folks with Seagull guitars I made the purchase.
It sounds fantastic, is easy to play and does indeed stay in-tune.
Well made and solid. Excellent quality
Can't beat the price
Seagull Coastline Series S12 Left-Handed 12-String QI Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar Natural
.Buying a left handed guitar is difficult. Buying a 12 string left handed w/ electronics is about frustrating as exfoliating your own back. Without hands. Though there was a bit of a backlog over at Godin/Seagull, they eventually came through. And courtesy, Custom Guitar's Friend, I now have a twelve string that is sturdy, non-temperamental, and sounds like a premium instrument. A friend compared the sound to an Ibanez - this guitar definitely punches well above its weight class.
