I've had this guitar now for a month and am finally ready to post my review. I used to be primarily an electic player, but as I'm getting older I play acoustics more now. I play flatpick-style only. I wanted "serious" guitar to compare with my USA strat, tele, and Gibson Les Paul Standard. I first looked at Martins, Gibsons, and Chaylors-- All beautiful instruments, but I've already paid for the name-brands on my electrics and my ego is satisfied. My first acoustic was an Art & Luthier, so I took a look at Seagulls. I wanted a guitar that sounded balanced, that I could sing along with, and I wouldn't worry about losing a thousand bucks by banging against the table. Seagull nailed it here. Nothing too fancy looking about the guitar. My guess is that any expense that could've gone into binding the neck or fancy inlays went into the WOOD instead. Good investment Seagull. To me, this is the perfect guitar. It's got a wonderful organic, full sound, without over powering my vocals. Trebles sing, mids are articulate, and the bass is solid (not "boomy" like a martin). Still, it can get pleny loud and I can feel the air moving over the sound hole. Chords and single notes both sing out. It's got a wide seagull neck. The wide neck makes it easier for me to pick out single notes. Factory set up was great. I even liked the strings that came on it. You have to supply your own case, which is why I gave it a 4 on features. If your looking for a great solid-wood guitar under a grand, definitely look at the Seagull SWS series.

.Since my fingers are fat on the ends, I needed a guitar with a slightly wider neck. I purcased a Classical guitar but it's way too wide for most of the work I do. The Seagull Maritime SWS neck, being slightly wider than most acoustics, was a godsend. Great for forming chords with the left hand as well as fingerpicking. The quality is top notch. I'm baffled as to how can they produce such an instrument for the price. The sound it mellower than my Yamaha Acoustics but still strong nevertheless. Don't think this guitar can't take a pounding either. I play fast and heavy on many songs and this guitar can definately rise to the challenge. I'm so imopressed, I'm buying the Maritime Acoustic-Electric model as soon as I can. The guitar comes with Godin A6 Lt strings which have stayed in tune impressively, a testament to both the quality of the guitar and the strings. Trust me, you will not regret this purchase.

. Buy this guitar. The tone is simply fantastic for a new guitar. I can't wait to play it several years from now when it has had time to age.
No electronics and semi-gloss finish are more than offset by the all solid wood construction. Even though it is somewhat plain, the lacquer finish really allows the body to resonate.
Cosmetics were compromised to reach the price point instead of material quality. The assembly is very clean inside and out, and the neck set is very good. I have lowered the action, and I am having no issues with buzzes.
Tone and playability are not compromised by the price point.

.I bought the SWS Maritime mahogany model as mainly a spare guitar that I could take on vacation. I do acoustic gigs with a Gibson J200. I never thought I would use this for playing out until I tried it. I put in a fishman transducer and use it now along with the Gibson. With its wide neck I find it to be ideal for fingerpicking and bluegrass style songs. I had a Seagull S6 years ago and sold it. I have forever regretted getting rid of that guitar. This Seagull is going nowhere. These have got to be the most underrated guitars on the market. Every acoustic has its own character and the Maritime adds another dimension to my playing. Hit a chord and this guitar resonates forever.

.I take my Seagull Maritime SWS all the places I wouldn't dare take my higher end guitars, and it is enjoyable to play. The craftsmanship is much better than you would expect, playability is outstanding, and the guitar has a nice sound at this price point. Is it a Chaylor or Martin? Absolutely not, but it does outperform other similarly priced guitars and is economical enough to enjoy taking on a trip without worry. Guitar has nice detailing, and fits perfectly in the Seagull gig bag for easy travel.

.Light weight to be so strong. I replaced the light phosphor bronze strings with medium Martin Phosphor Bronze M550 strings and the sound is very good. I played last night in an outing for the first time since I got it and received a lot of compliments on the sound. One experienced musician said it had better sound than my D35 Martin that I normally play there. I won't go that far but I do love playing the thing. I own a lot of guitars to include a sweet Seagull acoustic electric 12 string but this Seagull Maritime SWS SG is in my hands all the time. Fun to play with good action and very good sound and volume. I like the looks and feel of the guitar and highly recommend it for a good second guitar to back-up on stage or just sitting around playing with friends. If you buy this for a beginner it will be a long, long time before they will want to go to anything else. There are better guitars but for the money this one will be extremely hard to beat.

I have 53 years of playing experience from New York to South Carolina and even played in Vietnam. After spending ten years in a band, I have found local venues to be the most enjoyable. I gave up focusing on Rock and do a lot of Country, Bluegrass and Gospel music these days. Acoustic picking with friends without the amps I find to be a lot more relaxing in my old age. No matter what kind of music you play you are going to enjoy playing this guitar.

.My D35 Martin was too loud for small venues and required a microphone for vocals to be heard. This Maritime SWS Mahogany is clear, sweet, and loud enough to be heard and yet I do not have to use a microphone to be heard over it. The action on mine is near perfect and the ease of play allows for hours of strumming and picking. I did change the light gage strings to a medium Martin M550 Phosphor Bronze string and the sound is right where I like it for the Country, Bluegrass and Gospel music that I like to play these days. I have had this guitar for about two weeks and so far I have not had the urge to play any of my other guitars. I plan to have a pickup put in it for larger stage performances but for now I am content to play it day and night just for the fun of it. The price is great and the quality is more than I expected. This guitar would be great for a serious beginner that would probably play it for the rest of his/her life. It would also be good for a seasoned stage performer who may find it hard to put down. A number of people that I play music with have complimented the guitar on the quality of sound and one played it a couple of days ago and was impressed not only with the sound but the ease of play. I think it may be his next guitar. I truly like this Seagull Maritime SWS SG and recommend it to everyone.

.I was looking for a guitar with a mahogany body and spruce top, because I think they give the best sound. This one seemed to be what I wanted. I especially like the solid wood body over the laminated wood body. I think this is a beautiful guitar. I was at the local Guitar Center earlier and found a Chaylor guitar that I really liked. It was used (looked like new). I thought long and hard about buying that one, but for my purpose, it was a lot of money to pay. I decided to check out Seagull on Custom Guitar's Friend. I already have the Seagull S6, which I bought from them years ago, and I really liked it.So I ordered the SWS Maritime and am happy that I did. The only thing I would have liked to see on it, would be gold tuning machines. The chrome ones' that came on it are very nice looking, but I think gold tuners and strap buttons would have been a special touch as far as looks are concerned.
