Product Description

The Martin D-15M acoustic guitar with a burst top. In its 175-year history, Martin has set more guitar design trends than can be counted. The company still embraces design techniques introduced many years ago to create their guitars' timeless tone.

Built on a dreadnought platform, the Martin D-15M guitar boasts 14 open frets for a unique design and great range of tone. The top, back, and sides are genuine solid mahogany, offering strong guitar tone, with crisp, clear subtleties in each note's definition. One of mahogany's finest qualities is its density. Although it's not the hardest tonewood, it is free of air pockets and other deformities.

The vintage sound produced by the Martin D-15M acoustic guitar is reminiscent of the Style 15 Martin guitars made popular during the 1940s. The Martin guitar is equipped with a simplified dovetail neck joint, offering the best wood binding practice ever conceived. Often used for shipbuilding, the process fuses two pieces of wood into a single, sturdy unit that stands up to the elements time and time again. The results are evident with the strength in tone and power in projection that you hear with each strum of this Martin acoustic guitar.

This Martin guitar's solid mahogany neck further complements the crisp, defined acoustic sound of this dreadnought. The bridge and fingerboard are solid East Indian rosewood, adding smooth sustain to the mix. The 14 open frets, 1-11/16" nut width, 2-1/8" bridge string spacing, and 16" radius add comfort for your intricate fingerboard movements.

Other appointments include a single-ring rosette, bone nut, solid/square taper headstock, solid East Indian rosewood headplate, diamonds and square fingerboard inlay, belly-style bridge, nickel open-geared tuning machines with butterbean knobs, and a solid black ebony bridge and end pins. Dressed in a soft satin finish and featuring a Delmar tortoise color pickguard, the Martin D-15M guitar glows with classic vintage looks and sound.

Includes a Martin 345 hardshell guitar case.

This is a very special Martin! I bought the shaded, and it has the look and feel of an old leather jacket...its one of the most attractive guitars out there in a dark, worn, sort of way. plays wonderful. Came well setup...BUT lacked the loud, strong bass I expect from a Martin Dreadnought. Its beautiful sounding instrument, but 'disappears' in large jams.
I play in large (20 pickers) bluegrass jams, with banjos, fiddles, string bass, mandolins, etc. all firing off together, and it LOUD! This beauty gets lost in the crowd. My (much less expensive) Martin DRS2 is no 'cannon', but compared to this beauty it sounds twice as loud and more articulate in those heavy pickin' sessions. I tried different strings (D'Addario EJ16's) to no avail.
I loved this guitar, but had to reluctantly admit that it was just not the guitar for my needs, so I sent it back (no arguments from Custom Guitar's Friend) to be enjoyed by another. Were I able to buy a guitar for home use, recording, or smaller ensembles this would be the one...just the wrong tool for the job I need to do.
Oh, and this has that wonderful Mahogany smell in spades! (smells kinda like burnt cork to me) I will miss that smell and its beauty....If I had the money to have multiple dreads, this would have been an easy choice for a lifetime companion.

.Music is a hobby and I established my budget at $2K - I was looking for warm tones, value, quality, no frills required (price point trade off), fun to play. I was not able to play the guitar before purchasing because I live outside the continental U.S and was having trouble finding desired products in local music stores. A lot of research was involved and I continued to come back to the Martin D-15M, reading and re-reading online MF reviews. I found that all the positive comments posted on this site about the D-15M true: warm tones, low fret board action out of the box, beautiful simple aesthetics, very aromatic, light/comfortable, etc. The big difference between the D-15M and the D-15M burst: the burst is constructed with the Simplified Dovetail neck joint which is used on the higher end Martin product lines. The D-15M is constructed with Mortise/Tenon neck joint. I don't think this makes a big difference in sound, more of a personal preference that still kept me within budget. The color burst stain is a minor difference and I prefer it as well. It has a classic look and the origins of this guitar has interesting history. I would like to thank all those that wrote up reviews for the product, you guys are on the money - I was confident that so many positive reviews from musicians at all levels had to be accurate!

.I have owned this Martin D-15M acoustic instrument for 14 years. It has the best sound I have ever experienced, the easiest to play, and the one I am least likely to loan to anyone else to play. I have a Gibson Hummingbird, Tru Vintage, VOS, and the D-15 is superior in all aspects. As much as I love the 'Bird, I love the Martin more. My only complaint is that the matte finish tends to turn milky when it is incontact with skin moisture. It quickly dries to original look, but the temporary look is annoying to the eye.

.I love this Guitar, can't put it down.
Love the sound and plays great.
I just wish this came with a pickup, I guess I will put one in soon. The color is very nice too.
Thanks Custom Guitars friend.
