Excellent Classical-style for quiet playing for sneaking into the woods and/or hiking. Only 3-lbs!

It sounds more like a thinner classical guitar compared to a ukulele (sound is really good). If you have the fingers then you make it sound good!

Strings are low tension, and Martin does not recommend high-tension strings. It takes about two weeks for the nylon strings to settle!
Just give it time & it will stay in tune as you play a song (needs re-tuned daily).

I wanted the classical model because it has an integrated string saddle & no bridge pins!

No string-buzz!

I ended up shellacking the neck & headstock (over ten-coats) because the wood is very soft.
Mine got nicked when I bumped it against a table. The shellac helped strengthen the surface.

The action was very high so I ground the bridge on a bench grinder.

The guitar would not benefit having a truss-rod because the neck wood is way too soft.
It smells exactly like a wooden cigar box (same material).

Stock tuners are wiggly, thus, I replaced them with my Gotoh 501's. Be careful drilling into headstock as it is soft!

Thanks to Custom Guitar's Friend for the great deals & fast, free shipping!

.As a classical guitarist and having probably thousands of guitars, I'd say that this is pretty darn good for the price. Given its size as well, it produces a rediculously pleasant sound. Bright and quick to resonant frequency. The G string has the same issues as most other nylon stringed guitars and the b and D string sound to me to be a little bit "dry;" but again, if you are traveling, I don't know why you would take anything else with you. My interest in this is the fragility of a good classical- this little traveler was def. Built with changing climate cond. In mind.

.Action was very high, (good for slide guitar perhaps). Difficult and painful to play for even uitar rugged hands and (hard to beleive but true)No Truss Rod To Adjust. You'd have to adjust the action the trained Luthier way. Remove nut and bridge and sand down till right, or buy professional nut files and carefully ... You get the point. It's shape is ackward to play, slides around your lap. (Note: I am a normal fit person with a normal fit lap). I love Martin and this is NOT up to par with Martin quality. The good people at Custom Guitars Friend were kind enough to let me return it.

.Alright, my friend owns this guitar, and hes not as good as me. I ONLY reccomend buying this guitar IF you can really play. You cant play thing thing sitting down, nearly at all. He got this from our local music store. I played it, and don't get me wrong, it sounds amazing, but its just so hard to play! So do not buy this if you are a beginner because you'll regret it.

.Great little guitar for its purpose. Action was too high for my taste, so I cut down the bridge saddle 1/16" as suggested in the instructions and it was perfect. Extremely sturdy, even has fret markers on side of the fingerboard (unusual in a classical.) The strap must be used to play it, but that's part of the deal for portability and ease of instant use without assembly. The neck is a perfect width and radius for me. It doesn't sound like my full size Taylor classicals, but its own tone is pleasant. All in all, a great little instrument.
Martin Backpacker Nylon String Acoustic Guitar
.The body size plays a critical role in the tone of the acoustic guitar. This is the main reason why I was so impressed with the sound and the tone delivered by the Nylon String backpacker. It sounds great for practice and/ or traveling. It takes a while to get used to playing it, but it is a well built instrument, and the sound will not dissapoint you. On the downside, the nut is too weak (Mine broke while tuning the included set of "x-light" strings), and I plain end strings sound much better than the included ball-end.
Martin Backpacker Nylon String Acoustic Guitar
.After replacing the strings with some low tension SAVEREZ strings, this guitar stayed in tune and sounded great, not difficult to get use to playing sitting down, all in all, a very good value.
Martin Backpacker Nylon String Acoustic Guitar
.the martin backpacker offers most of what i need for my small, 2 piece folk music cover band--it's small size is nice, but it is very awkward to play standing or sitting, and the unmarked frets can be confusing at times, but, all in all, this is a decent guitar for it's price
Martin Backpacker Nylon String Acoustic Guitar
.Excellent tonal quality and beautifully constructed! Love the easy portability for a plane or camper! Not too easy to play sitting down - the strap is a necessity to hold it in place! The quality of the instrument is A-1 - a "must have" for anyone who has to have their guitar "fix" while traveling!
Martin Backpacker Nylon String Acoustic Guitar
.I like to much this product. The sound is sweet and is cofortable to travel and playing any where. I love this guitar!!
