Product Description

Gauges 11-13-23-28-38-47

Martin SP Flexible Core strings have a thin, but strong core wire and a thicker wrap wire, which allows them to be flexible and easy on the fingers while holding standard tension. SP Flexible Core strings feel soft to the touch, making them ideal for beginners. But don't be fooled by comfort! Just ask Tommy Emmanuel, who performs with Martin's SP Flexible Core strings night after night. With SP Flexible Core, you get total flexibility and total control.

I have played professionally. I'm an old guy now, but I do know strings. When I first tried these strings I gave them a good review, and I stand by what I said originally. There are, however, a couple of things you should know. These strings don't pick up well with a sound hole pickup or on an archtop guitar. They're great for acoustic playing though. Also, if your action is low, be prepared to adjust your truss rod. These strings have less tension. and you may end up with fret buzz. Loosening your truss rod a bit, might eliminate that problem.

I've been struggling to play barre chords; the strings I've tried previously were too hard for me to hold down cleanly. These Silk and Phosphor strings from Martin are the best I've found - are lighter, or seem to have the least tension, and so are easier for me to hold down - and will allow me to practice these harder chords while I build up strength in my admittedly weak fingers. I highly recommend these strings if you're having similar difficulties.

.I concur with all of the positive comments by other reviewers. I would only add that these strings have a unique quality that makes them sound much less metallic than most strings. Their playability is without question a strong suit, however the tone is what sets them apart. If you have longed to find a string that sounds like it was made for an open air performance rather than a sanitized studio, these are the strings for you. They make me want to pick up my guitar and play!

.Got these for my daughter's new ovation that came w/medium bronze strings that were very bright and loud! When she sang acoustic, it drowned her out. We put these on (and took out a shim in the bridge) and the guitar is the most effortless and smooth sounding guitar ever. Love them.

. These are very good strings- low tension, easy on the fingers. Nice even balanced tone. Beautiful, warm sound. Try a set.
Very good quality strings.
These strings are a great value.

.After much reading about the sound qualities of different kinds of strings, I used bronze or PB's custom lights for a long time. I first tried these strings on my backup/practice guitar - a folk sized Simon and Patrick. The sound was sweet and the strings soft to the touch and easy to play. My main player is a Masterbilt EF500RCCE and it has a rather dark tone. I was afraid to go any lighter than the custom lights (11-52) that I've been using because I was afraid of excessive volume loss. After putting these on, the tone is considerably brighter and better and volume is equal to, if not better, than the custom lights. I play a mixture of finger style and strumming and these strings sound excellent for both. After years of experimenting w/strings my search is over. Don't be put off by the lightness of the gauge - these are easily equal to regular lights in volume IMO. Save your fingers and boost your tone at the same time. Best strings I have EVER used. Excellent!

.Bought one set and tried them on my main guitar. I immediately liked the feel of the strings and the sound. They were great sounding and I found myself wanting to play more and more. I have since ordered 6 more sets and are using them on both acoustics with several sets for restringing. Great value.

.These strings added a whole new enjoyment to my daily playing. They also gave a better sound to my Epiphone AJ220.

I was looking for light tension Martin Silk-n-Steel M1400 to put on my Ancient guitar. But I found these on sale so I gave them a shot. Once I got a 5-pack and tried them on a couple of my guitars I decided that I Love these. I put them on my newer guitars too. They are very easy to play because of the Low Tension "Silk" part. And the Phosphor part Sounds good. They sound good straight acoustic, as well as amplified on my Acoustic Electric guitar. I just pre-ordered a bunch of them for when MF gets them back in stock. And the current price is unbeatable too.

I read a ton of 5 star reviews and might agree with them if two of the strings (A & D) hadn't snapped before they got even close to in tune.
