Product Description

Crafted to evoke the same powerful tone and sonorous projection as a pre-WWII D-28, the Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar differs only by using the much less scarce, and therefore more affordable, Indian rosewood instead of Brazilian rosewood. Using only premium-grade solid Indian rosewood for the back and sides and a solid Adirondack spruce top, the Marquis Guitar delivers powerful sounds with scalloped Adirondack spruce braces and forward-shifted X-bracing. A special aging toner gives the wood a vintage countenance.

The list of historically accurate details, nearly overwhelming and totally exhaustive, captures the authentic spirit of the Martin D-28: mahogany blocks/dovetail neck joint construction, slot-through saddle, herringbone binding, neck dart, zipper back marquetry, ivoroid binding, herringbone top trim, Waverly butterbean tuners, and old-style wood fiber rosette.

The Martin D-28 Marquis also has a beveled and polished tortoise pickguard; ebony bridge with long saddle; modified V-shaped neck; ebony fretboard (1-3/4" nut, 25-2/5" scale) with diamond and square inlays; and fossil ivory nut, saddle, and bridgepins (with black dots).

The Martin D-28 Marquis Acoustic Guitar is a lovingly crafted Indian rosewood version of the discontinued D-28GE.

I've owned my Marquis since July of '08. This is my dream guitar come true. When I bought this guitar home to family & friends, they thought I was out of my mind when they heard what it cost. Then, when I played it, their jaws nearly hit the floor and they all understood & agreed that it was worth the price. I own 11 other guitars and this gets about 90% of the playing time. In my opinion, its the combination of the Adirondack top & Martin craftsmanship that make the difference. When I took it to Nashville this Summer it was a hit with all who had a chance to play and hear it. The most common reaction was "Wow!"This guitar will remain in the family well past my days.

.This IS the holy grail of guitars. I've been through them all and this is it. I even sold a D35 I had hanging next to it because I knew it would never get played again. I put medium guage Martin SP+ strings on it and it plays like a dream. The sunburst is beautiful, and it's otherwise plain appearance is insignificant once you play a lick. I practice with a couple of others who are amped and I cut right through with no mic or anything. I've even been to the factory and met several of the craftspeople that built it. No wonder Martin is the king of the hill.

.Hi ive owned many martin ,Morgan ,Blueridge,tinny-Taylor, and breedlove,I tested all d16rlsh,d18,hd 28v,d35,41,and the bling d45,GP,s and older d28,s and then the D28 Marquis v and holy moses,Blown away,so I just got this marquis and was instantly hooked and stoked ,,its a bit wider neck but the sound is like a thundering piano,deeep-bass cannon ,,thrilled to death and going to stick a SD pickup or K&K,Getthis guitar ya wont be sorry ,,,cheers

.This is the first "nice guitar" that I've ever owned. I wanted to upgrade, I saw this on the wall and gave it a try. The sound was rich, deep bass with out being muddy. The highs are clean, powerful and just as resonate as the bass notes. i could hear all of the notes in an open chord clearly. It was a religious experience. The price scared me away and I looked around for 2 months, Taylors, Martins, Gibsons..nothing compared or made the impression that the D=28 marquis made. I had to pony up. I'm so glad I did. I've had it for a year and I'm still in love with it. It beckons me daily. It's craftsmanship is a pleasure to hold.I was well worth the money, especially when you calculate the joy that you will receive for the rest of your days.

.I love the guitar, beautiful, excellent craftsmanship, perfect wood combination, great sound. However, I returned the guitar because the neck is too wide up the neck. It has wider-than-I-like string spacing as you go up the neck making pick-style playing difficult for me. I wish Martin would put the performer neck on this guitar. On my 028EC, the modified V neck is very playable and feels good. On the Marquis, it is too big and feels clunky. If you like the wide string spacing at the 12th fret, then you cannot go wrong with this guitar. But if not, you will never be completely happy. I also am not crazy about the non-gloss neck finish. Thanks to Custom Guitar's Friend for the excellent service including the trouble free return policy. You guys really know how to run a business.

.I bought this model after going through lots of Martins over the years. To me, this guitar is the best model Martin makes if you want the sound of a prewar 28 with the comfort of a thinner neck. Lots of bass and wonderful tones. Can't wait to hear the thing really open up after a few years of playing! The adirondack top makes this guitar sound simply wonderful.Hey, just spend the extra money and get THIS one, and it will be the last guitar you ever own!

.I waited 40 years to get this guitar. It was worth the wait. I bought a Martin 000-16GT tobide my time and a few years later I got my chance to buy a D-28 as I'd dreamed of for decades. After trying a few different modles, I found a D-28 Marquis and tried it. The sound caught me and hasn't let me go. The power of the adirondak top was awsome , and, 7 years later it is even more so as the wood has opened up. The simple appointments stand in contrast to the beautiful harringbone design just add to the feast.

I am an old 12 string player and I love the wider neck. My biggest supprise was how easy it is to play with those medium strings.

The guitar is a complete pleasure

Received my D-28 in Sunburst. A very beautiful guitar which was set up perfect. No quality issues to complain about. I also own a Martin D16GT and a Blueridge Carter Stanley. The D-28 has the best sound of the three. I am unhappy about the plainness of the guitar for the money. It is not any nicer than my 16GT other than the sculpted V on the backside of the headpiece. I am now wishing I would have spent a little more and bought the Martin Marquis Edition.

.What a fine instrument! Terrific materials and workmanship. High-end Martin features, materials and bracing without the gaudy inlays. Wonderful sound and playability. A pleasure to play.
Martin Marquis D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar Sunburst
.I have purchased a gun to protect this thing.Only flaw is the pickguard. I have seen better quality pickguards on cheaper Martins. I have put serious consideration into finding a way to de-value this thing without affecting the sound in order to ensure that I never sell it.
