Since 1987, musicians all over the world have come to know the playing comfort and unique sound of the Ibanez SR series bass. With 3-band EQ and its newly developed Mid-Frequency Select switch, the Ibanez SR500 bass can produce any sound you require.
The SR500 bass starts with a balanced, contoured mahogany body that's comfortable and resonates well for strong lows and low mids.
The SR500's sleek and strong 5-piece SR4 jatoba/bubinga neck is easy to play with just the right width and radius. The smooth curve and beveled styling of the neck joint will also be appreciated when reaching for high notes.
The SR500 features an easy-access 9V battery box, powering a Bartonlini MK1 3-band EQ. The 2 Bartolini MK1 pickups are split-coil designs that provide a very wide frequency range and enhanced definition for maximum accuracy. The neck and bridge pickups have equal response, like traditional single-coils, but without the hum and noise.
Lightweight, balanced comfort-contoured body
Thinner neck than traditional basses for effortless fretwork
Bartolini MK-1 pickups and EQB-3S 3 band EQ with mid-frequency switch deliver world-class sound and tone

This is my 6th Ibanez Soundgear bass and I must say, they keep getting better with each additional model. I owned a 1993 SR 400, I still own a 1994 and a 1995 SR 500, as well as a 2007 20th Anniversary 20th5 Prestige and have owned a 1995 SR 800. I walked into Guitar Center last year, saw this one and fell in love. In my opinion, this one looks much better than the turd brown mahagony SR 500 and plays incredibly well. I absolutely love this bass. The addition of the mid frequency switch was a huge plus too. It really does add a whole other dynamic to the bass that previous models did not have. Some other features I like is the addition of the battery box that is easy to access as well as the truss rod cover plate the now has a plate that slides open and closed so you don't have to unscrew the truss rod cover to access it. I have had this bass for slightly over a year not and have not had a single problem with it yet. So far the quality has been up to par with my previous Ibanez basses that I either have owned or still do own.
Really impressed with the mid switch upgrade over previous model years. It adds an entirely new dynamic to the bass.
Ibanez has always put out quality stuf for a great price.
I played more expensive basses that the quality was no where near the quality of this bass.

.Overall satisfied, but not before issues were resolved. First SR500 delivered had a bad neck; complete fret buzz across all four strings at first fret, and was unplayable. Returned and received a replacement, which played well (no neck issues) but had no sound from bridge pickup. Since neck played well, I performed troubleshooting on the pickup issue myself, which turned out to be an unsoldered wire inside the electronics cavity. Easy fix, but shouldn't occur with a new instrument.

.I saw this bass, played it in the store. I fell in love with it. The weight, the tones, the look oh yes the feel. I thought about it all that day. The next day I traded my old bass for the SR500. I just can't keep my hands off it. It added a new dimension to my playing. Real great for recording and traveling. Play it, feel it and see for yourself as I did, then buy it you'll love it.

.I really like the burl top and the neck is exceptional. Light weight, sound good and the set up was stop on.
