Product Description

From the innovative Ibanez Bass Workshop team, comes the SRSC800 “Cerro.” Boasting a design that integrates body to neck like no other, the upper bout connects the body to the neck all the way to the 13th fret. More compact than other basses of its type, the five-string SRSC800 requires less effort to maneuver, yet still provides the unique features and tone of larger models.

At the heart of the SRSC800 is a Mahogany body with a handsome Poplar Burl top shaped with the sinuous contours of the SR body style. A neck-through SR4 5-piece maple/purpleheart neck with a purpleheart fretboard provides a smooth, fast playing surface. The slightly smaller extended upper horn of the SRSC800 makes contact with the neck from the 24th to the 13th fret, providing maximum stability and increased sustain. The back of the neck is sculpted for comfort and easy access to the very highest notes of the G string. The smooth, graceful contour allows the palm of the left hand to move quickly and easily as it transitions up the neck, into the underside of the instruments body. The Mono-Rail V bridge delivers the ultimate in string-to-string isolation, allowing each string to vibrate independently with less interference from sympathetic vibration.

The full, clear tone of Bartolini® MK-1 pickups provides a tight bottom end with a mid-range that is articulate without being harsh. The Ibanez Custom 3-band EQ w/ bypass switch & mid-freq switch puts a full range of tone at the player's fingertips.

I bought this guitar from another place, so I can't speak for the musiciansfriend experience, but I can honestly say that this guitar has totally impressed me. I used to play a Schecter Stilleto Studio 5 many years back. Lately I've been playing a Spector Q4 Pro, so this is my experience for frame of reference. For starters, the craftsmanship is way better than I had anticipated. I've never been an Ibanez fan, so when I was in the market, this guitar caught my eye. I had plenty of doubt about this guitar, but later put them to bed. Right out of the box, the guitar felt smooth and ready to play without anything else but tuning it to go. I plugged it in and was rather blown away by the versatility of the electronics. I've had bad experiences with Bartolini in the past, so I was a little apprehensive to give it a try. The great thing about these pickups is that fact that they are active/passive, so you have that much more of a tonal range and variety. The guitar can be very warm sounding, to almost too bright with the active preamp on (and I say too much for what I was trying to achieve; I can think of many occasions where that would be preferred). The pots for lows, mids and highs are actually very responsive and make a huge difference with subtle adjustments.

As for the feel of the instrument, it is a little different to get used to, but it warms up rather quickly. Compared to the rather slim neck of the Spector I was playing beforehand, it is very similar. This guitar's neck is just ever-so-slightly wider than the Spector, but I'm thinking we're talking millimeters here (I can't guarantee that this is a fact, but going from feeling it feels really close). One thing that was of concern for me what the balance, and I thought the single cutaway configuration might make it a little funky for that. To my surprise the bass is very well balanced. Overall very pleased with the investment.
