A great bass for the price. I love the color choices as well.
This is my second electric bass. My first one I owned was a Washburn. I had trouble with the Washburn buzzing and had to constantly adjust the neck. This plays like a dream and holds in tune really well. I love the bass booster knob and have to replace the 9v battery for it about once every 6 months. I play it regularly and nothing has ever broken for me. The finish is beautiful and the sound is amazing. This is definitely a great bass for the price. I highly recommend it to anyone who's either starting out or has been playing for a few years. This is a great instrument.
The pick ups work great, i've never had any trouble with them. The upper nut is balanced out perfectly so I don't have to adjust it to eliminate buzzing. The neck is really super solid and high quality. I've played mine for 4 years now and the finish still looks amazing. It is lightweight as well which is great for me since i'm a woman. : )
You can't buy a better bass for this price.

.Rating based on price. I must mention the neck is very nice for this price, finish is very plesent to look at, knobs are plastic and fall off, (that is fixable) The overall workmanship is what one would expect for a bass in this price range. What makes the bass unusable for live preformance is the pickups and electronics. This bass sounds terrible, I played it thru 3 different amps and it sounds bad in all of them. Muddy lows, highs are not up to par and midrange is thin. I may change pups to see if there is any improvement. However, since it is not my only bass, I may just leave it alone and use if for practice and rehearsal to save wear and tear on my "good" basses.

Having said all that, it is a good beginners bass because it plays very nice, is not complicated, and is light in weight. I would only recommend this bass for that purpose. As a former teacher, I know some parents can't afford a more expensive bass for a beginner, so get this and ya got a nice bass that won't discourage a student right off the bat. ( I have seen this so many times, get a low priced bass with the strings 2" off the fretboard and wonder why Johny gets discouraged and doesn't want to practice)
2 pups, P/J config. volume knobs for both pups, a treble knob and a bass boost knob. Neither the treble knob nor the bass boost knob do a whole lot. The bass boost just seems to make the sound muddier and a bit louder, the trebble never gets to the real bite you need for slap. Both pups sound almost the same. The J/pup has a little less lows, but still has no punch nor does the P/pup, no guts...
Not bad workmanship for the price. However, the body developed a crack right at the neck. Don't know how this happened, I never dropped it or used it for self defense, but there it is. Nice finish, nice neck.
A good value. But I have seen better. SX for instance..

.I got this bass about 6 months ago at a local shop. I was playing an Epiphone Gothic Thunderbird IV before this, but it was really heavy and would hurt my shoulders and back. So I went in search of something lighter and found this GSR200 in transparent red. The picture does it no justice. I was amazed at how light it was, and how much power this thing had for the price. It sounds great without the active EQ, but when you turn it up, it blows more expensive basses out of the water. Overall, I would say buy this bass. Whether you're just starting out, or you've been playing for years, you won't be disappointed.

.I used this bass as a fill in for a bass player on a worship team in Toms River. Primarily I am a guitarist. This neck was and is still such an easy transition from guitar (Strats) that I bought another here in Florida because of the sound, product price and quality of the instrument.
The boost on the active EQ is great, the percussiveness with a blend of the 2 pickup configurations is superior- it gave me anything I could look for. It is a great bass, not just a begginer's axe. Bravo, banez, keep it coming. Very affordable craftsmanship.

.Very nice bass guitar for the price. However, the one I got has crooked knobs. It seems like the pots were hastily installed. One of the knobs is actually too low that the bottom of it touches the guitar body, and I can feel it scratching the finish every time I turn the knob. I may be able to fix it, but the knobs are so hard to pull, and I'm worried about damaging it if I force it. I'll probably leave it as is for now. It seems like Ibanez is not giving their entry level basses sufficient quality control.

.Back in 2000 I picked up an "Ibanez bass starter kit", which included a GSR 200. AWESOME DEAL, 14 years later I still have it and use it for practicing. (Apparently the electronics on the GSR 200 have changed since then - mine has 3 knobs, similar to the GSRM 20.)

Rating 4.5 stars, rounded up to 5. Excellent build quality and the setup was spot on.

The first thing I noticed about this bass was the neck, it feels really good in your hand. The finish has not changed with age and usage. I own several basses and guitars, the neck on this one is my favorite at any price.

The strings it came with were a little chintzy. The first time I changed strings, I put on Rotosounds and I was blown away by the improvement.

The electronics are a little noisy (60 Hz hum, and sometimes crackling when you turn the pots). I didn't notice this for a long time, some of it may be from wear and corrosion.

It's tempting to say that "this should be everyone's first bass", except the Squire and Epiphone also make excellent starter basses.

. This an awesome bass if your a begginer or a professional this is an awesome sounding bass. The active pickups strait up RIP... big time tones for Rock, Metal, Jazz, and Blues, and it is very well made, mine is 5 years old and is the best bass I have owned and played. And Ive owned some big brand bases, such as FENDER, LTD, and CORT, and it sounds better then all of them. So if you are wanting a very versitile bass buy this one...it is deffinently worth it!!!

.I have had this bass since 2008. never had a problem with it. Rceently I played a show using this bass, we headlined. Now i read a lot of people saying it has a muddy sound to it. Well for me, I play in a grunge metal band and that's the sound we have. I am also a pick player for this project too, so the sound has been right up my alley.

Another issue people have posted about are strings, well, I always change the strings on any new guitar or bass I get immediately. I run Rotosounds and suggest them to everyone as i have (*knock on wood) never broke one yet. The price for this bass, if yo live on a serious budget like I do and want good quality, this is what you shouldget.

I play this bass 4-5 times a week so this bass takes a beating and having it since 2008 and it is still in great shape says a lot about the product.

A little treat to myself for this bass lasting so long, i am soon going to upgrade the pickups, but thats not because the current ones are malfunctioning, i just feel like treating myself :)

.I did extensive research before choosing my first bass. The GSR-200 was on a lot of people's lists as a top pick for a beginner/budget bass, and now I know why. This bass is very easy to play, has a beautiful finish (I got transparent red), and most importantly sounds pretty darn good.

Knowing very little about bass guitars I took mine to an experienced bass player to get his opinion on the setup and feel, and after playing it a bit he said "You're good to go."

I recently played my GSR-200 with the praise team band at my church and it sounded great through the church's sound system.

The only negative that stands out for me is the quality -- or lack thereof -- of the pots. All the pots have a lot of noise in them, and my bridge pot doesn't really adjust output volume incrementally -- it's practically on or off.

Also, make sure you budget for a new set of strings when you buy this bass. Most people advise that anyway, I've learned, especially with budget guitars, but my bass arrived with a bad A string that rattled like crazy. I put a set of Rotosounds on it and it took care of that.

Overall I can't recommend it enough as a first bass.
Ibanez GSR200 4-String Electric Bass Black
.The Ibanez GSR200 is a great bass for the buck. It may not have the bells and whistles of higher end basses but it definatly holds it's own, especially considering the price. The finish is better looking than the pic here too (I got Transparent Red).

The strings are definatly lackluster. You'll wanna replace them as soon as you can (putting RotoSounds on mine). You may also want to adjust the pickups and bridge.

If you're buying a bass on a budget and prefer a thinner neck this is it.
