I bought this pedal right when they announced it, as I was recording and my Ernie Ball volume pedal had an unfixable scratchy pot. Well, this pedal seemed like a godsend with no moving parts and a calibrated sweep. NOT THE CASE! There are two reasons why I use a volume pedal: one is to erase the attack of my pick to get a bow-type sound. The other is to set my rig at a certain volume, say for an open mic night or something where I know people won't use my guitar's volume knob. This pedal can't do either unfortunately.

If my foot isn't depressing the pedal, it resets to full volume. When I want to do swells, it seems like no matter how I calibrate the pedal, I cannot get a satisfactory swell. In my experience, the pedal goes from zero volume to halfway with the tiniest motion of my foot, then the most noticable expression is from half volume to full. It never really sounds like a swell in the beginning; it sounds like the pedal is off, then to half-volume. There is a noticable moment when the pedal starts "expressing" the volume. On my scratchy Ernie Ball, this expression is seamless, and the swell is smooth (in terms of the actual volume output) from no volume to full volume. Also, and this was the final straw for me, there is noticable noise when the pedal is switched on. Since this pedal is used primarily in low-volume situations for me this was unacceptable.

I had very high hopes for this pedal because I am a fan of EHX and their visionary pedals. But this pedal needs to be retracted for further development. It was a good try but I feel like more of a beta tester than a musician gigging and recording with this thing. I did not end up recording with this pedal, and instead went through the labor of programming an algorithm for the repeated swells in the song.

.I purchased this unit being totally unaware of its workings. The pedal in one piece and relies on an internal mechanism to raise and lower the volume..So the entire pedal rocks back and forth moving the cables as you use it. The response is poor, and the pedal walks across the floor when you use it. I was not aware that you you have to buy a cradle holder in addition to hold the pedal stable. Needless to say I returned it for a Morley. While this is a neat idea, there needs to be a base that it cradles on. The coolest thing about this pedal is the logo That lights up. Back to the drawing board EH!

.I've played pedal steel guitar for over fifty years (yikes). I've used all of the types made to date, I've owned Bigsby, Fender, Ernie Ball, Goodrich, Emmons and a few others. This is the only unique and truly innovative new idea out there. And contrary to nit-picky and/or bad reviews out there from other pedal steel players, this pedal works great. Took me about half a set to get used to it, I love it. Give it an honest effort, you'll love it too. Yes it is different than what you are used to, but the benefits are clearly there. Learn to use it just the way the EHX engineers designed it... it's worth your time and your money... and doesn't require too much of either. BTW: you don't need the cradle.
