Product Description

The original 1969Muff Fuzz had just a touch of overdrive and sounded like a vintage amp with a slightly torn speaker. Electro-Harmonix paired two of these together in one box to create the Nano Double Muff. Use just one Muff for a hint of milky distortion, or cascade the second Muff for over-the-top overdrive that turns the milk into cream.

In single mode, the amount of overdrive will lessen as you decrease the volume on your guitar. You can compensate for this by increasing the volume of the single Muff. In Double Mode, the Muff knobs will interact with each other so you can tweak your sound for the perfect amount of distortion every time. The Electro-Harmonix Nano Double Muff is true bypass, and operates on a 9V battery (included) or optional EHX 9.6V AC/DC adapter.

Two Muffs in a Nano-sized pedal Operates in Single or Double Muff modes Simple control set”one knob for controlling the level of each Muff

I bought this pedal about 5 years ago before they Nano sized it. I thought it sucked for the longest time but that's because I didn't know how pedals worked and turned all the knobs up to the max. Now that I know how to use it I love it. Muff 1 I use as volume. Muff 2 is for OD and distortion. IT SOUNDS BEST WHEN USING BOTH MUFFS. Do not think of it as two pedals with Muff 1 as OD and Muff 2 as distortion. That's not how it works. Use Muff 1 to get the volume you need. This will probably give you a decent OD but not the best. Once you have the volume dialed in on Muff 1, turn up Muff 2 until you get the distortion you want. With most of my guitars and amps the best settings are about 9 o'clock on Muff 1 and 3 o'clock on Muff 2. If you turn up Muff 1 past 9 o'clock it makes Muff 2 way too muddy. If you turn up Muff 2 to 9 o'clock you can dial in a great OD with Muff 1 at about 8:30. If you want heavier distortion turn up Muff 1 to about 9:30 or 10:00. This will cover everything for slight blues OD to Classic Metal and Thrash. If you need really heavy distortion like MetalCore or MallCore just turn both knobs all the way up. Your sound will suck but you probably can't play guitar any way so who cares.
One switch, Two knobs, One button.
About 5 years old and still working.
Not cheap, but good quality.

.I got an original LPB-1 "MuffFuzz" in 1973 or so (I still have it). First one-knob effect I ever saw....It's impossible to get unity gain with it, unless you have it barely rolled on (by the time you get smooth solo-tone it's almost twice as loud as the straight signal). Well, this is 2 of them, so you can set the toggle to 'double' and wind the first one '#2' up, then use the second one '#1' (that's how they marked them, since if you're on 'single' it's just '#1) to match the output volume with your 'bypass signal'. Like many EH pedals, the sounds I prefer seem to have at least one knob dimed....This does Optimized BigMuff Pi tone on 'double' with #2 dimed and #1 from 2-5. I'm not as impressed with the 'single' setting; as a straight OD/boost it seems too smooth at the lower settings, with single coils or HBs. For those who mostly use 'less strident' distort-o-tone than some of us, there *is* a lot of range in the lower settings of 'double' mode, however. I run my EH Screaming Bird treble boost on about 6 in front of this (dimed on 'double', unity gain) and it sounds Boutique. This pedal's weakest area seems to be when it's used on 'single' as an OD/boost after a distortion. However, on 'double' with the Bird before it, I don't need another OD stage. I use this with the Bird in front of a VHT Super 6 Ultra and a 3 channel 50w Carvin's clean channel. This is such a great value for 'creamy lead tone'--I'd recommend you invest some of your savings in a Screaming Bird to put in front of it.

.This is a great pedal - with lots of variation in tones possible. It is that rare fuzz that really seems to breathe - it has that open, head-roomy quality where many distortions seem so dense. By shifting modes to the double muff, you can certainly up the density, but even there i feel that single notes remain shimmery while chords grind nicely and get dirtier. Very cool. I am only just getting started with this one.

.This pedal is great! I use this pedal at every gig i do. It has the Black Keys fuzz sound i wanted and has a GREAT price. Buy it, you will not be sorry.

.In single mode, you get a decent little overdrive. Personally, I use it in double mode using muff1 knob as volume and muff2 as gain. I could never get along with a Fuzz Face no matter what I tried. This is what I use to get what most people say they get from a FF. It's touch responsive, and cleans up well with the guitars volume knob.

The only problem I have with this pedal is that it's noisy after a wah. In front of the wah, it's magic.

A very versatile distortion pedal. I have gone through a few different pedals, trying to find the right sound, and this pedal delivers. The double feature allows a solid range of sounds, and if you take the time to explore it, you can find the right tone for many styles of music. I primarily use it on single mode for blues, and it gives just a touch of vintage sounding distortion. When flipped to double, the distortion gets a bit heavier, for more classic rock sounding tones. It responds well with other effects, where lower quality pedals I have used have been drown out and made to sound more muddy and indistinguishable.

.The Nano DM - very good purchase. It is unlike the single namesake other nano (which is also awesome in its own right). The Nano DM is separate and distinct from other distortion and 'tube' pedals. Really glad to have added it in my chain. It stands on its own as a tough gnarly grind machine. I have not explored all of the settings yet, but definitely love what it does so far. I actually am just using the 1st stage alone right now - and am still deciding how and when to use the 2nd stage (which is pleasingly over-the-top); choice choice choice little box. It is its own unique beast and has enough room for adjustment to attain whatever level of growl you want. Volume knob adjustment on the guitar gives you the entire spectrum of uses and sounds. Gets your attention right away when switched on. Really happy with this creation~!

.Before reading the rest of this review, please note that I generally dislike fuzz pedals. I've tried and heard quite a few of them, and never remotely enjoyed the sound. That is, until I tried the DMuff.

Quite simply, this is the most versatile dirt pedal I have ever used. The range of sounds that you can get from this pedal is amazing for two knobs & a mini switch. This pedal is super responsive to your guitar's volume knob(s). At guitar volume 10, it is a really musical fuzz that can allow you to get those really rich solo tones. No wooliness or woofiness at all (and I have a pretty bassy tone set on my amp).

Once you turn your guitar's volume down even just to 9, the pedal retains great clarity within the fuzz tone while losing the slight harmonic edge that you want for solos. Turning down to 3 or 4 gives a really nice sparkle-edge (even with humbuckers) to some picked chords, while retaining your overall volume.

Please remember, this is a great pedal for those of you who like to work the guitar volume knob. If you are not one of those people, it might seem a bit limited. For the price, this is a steal of a deal. I highly recommend it.

.I bought the older version in the big casing used a few years back and I'll never get rid of it. I modded my power input to simulate a dying battery and it really made it a lot more versatile, I can get that buzzing bee/gated sound. It produces a great fuzz tone, but I think it's more of an overdrive pedal. It's sort of like a big muff with a mid-boost and a little less sustain. Muff 1 is really good to boost your clean channel, but the double mode is where it really shines. Perfect for blues rock, garage, 70's rock, loud noises, anything really. Put an eq pedal with the mid scooped after it for a good old school metal tone. Everyone should have one... I mean no one should, so the tone can be all mine!
