Product Description

The Electro-Harmonix EL34EH is an extremely musical and predictable power tube with a sound that is rich, smooth, and detailed without being edgy. It is the perfect EL34 for vintage equipment and a sure way to improve the performance of modern equipment.

According to the technical journal, Vacuum Tube Valley, "The Electro-Harmonix EL34EH is balanced throughout the entire music spectrum. Bass goes deep and is tight, mids are sweet and well defined, and highs are detailed and extended."

These are Electro-Harmonix EL34EH's in platinum matched sets. Their platinum matching process consists of a 24-hour tube burn-in period followed by a bias (plate) current measurement in milliamps.

Excellent value, however one tube shorted it's cathode to the heater after about 30 hours of use. They sounded excellent. Punchy, well defined transients and solid bass current. If not for the shorted cathode I'd have thought I had found my new EL34. Note that the extra current draw causes them to be a little more mechanically noisy than other EL34s, but a guitar player would not notice this. For hi-fi it did not bother me, but they do make the chassis hum a little louder than most other EL34s. If the amp is well built this should not be a problem.

They draw about 5%-10% more current than other EL34s. I used these in a modern interpretation of a Dyna ST70. -I.e. the only remaining Dynaco parts are the output transformers. The POWER x-former is the new heavy duty model being made in Chicago by the old Allied factory (recommended). So, the extra current was no problem; however, if you are powering a VOX or Marshall, make sure your power x-former is not too hot to touch before buying this brand. -Rule of thumb with power x-formers is; as long as you can touch them for a moment without a burn, you are OK, but that's the limit.

I suspect my shorted cathode was a fluke and these will perform well in a variety of amps. Note: I operate my gear under strict voltage regulation (117VAC) at all times. I carefully bias the tubes and also check the matching dynamically -i.e. while the tube is in circuit. This quartet had a plate current of 31 and a transconductance of 51 -an excellent reading. All 3 grids, particularly g2, were behaving perfectly matched and steady. And, yes, they resemble the Siemans, but how much this is a factor is not known. It is possible that they are being built with old Sieman's machinery. After the war, Russia took as war booty, all the Telefunken and RCA production machinery they could get their hands on. And these machine are still building your tubes today!

...The East German Seimens. I have become a total fan of New Sensor tubes in the last year and so i bought a pair of these from GC a couple weeks ago. I appreciate the old tubes as much as any hi fi snob out there. I have more phillips-mullard, and Amperex tubes than any sane person would pay for. I also dig the German made Telefunken and Seimens EL34. New Sensor makes an AWSOME ri of the Mullard XF-2, and the Svetlana brand EL34 from New Sensor is my go to replacement for Amperex EL34, and now that the East German made RFT and Seimens are selling for stupid money, i went looking for a cost effective replacement for them too...and found it in the Electroharmonix EL34. This tube Has the great big bass the RFT is known for. Great build quality and the straight bottle with the dimple top a-la the german made tubes is a nice asthetic touch. i highly recommend these. Everyone ive spoken to ( that knows what they are talking about) has nothing but positive feedback on these tubes. If you are a fan of the old German EL34's give these a try.

.I recently retubed a marshall jcm900 head and a soldano astroverb with EH tubes. Both amps have more defined and sweeter tonal quality than the sovtek and svetlana tubes that they replaced. Don't buy a new amp until you retube....

.I purchased these tubes and they are terrible. The build quality is aweful! I have had 2 sets fail. MF sent me a new set after the 1st set shorted out, but now the 2nd set is blowing fuses in my Marshall. The old tubes still work better. The sound quality was marginal at best.

.I have been using these tubes for years in most of my Marshall amplifiers - I like the Red/soft tubes - they seem warmer and have more of a vintage feel - I have been a long time customer of musicians friend - my last 2 orders of these tubes came in with heavy packing tape all around the retail tube boxes - as a result the boxes were destroyed - Customer service was not very concerned - because of this I will not order from Custom Guitars Friend again

.Much brighter than old stock Mullards. Top end is a little on the harsh side.

.Put these in my Marshall jcm 2000 dsl and it sounds much better than stock. Bass is tight, mids sound great and highs are not shrill. Best part is all we're in a set and balanced. My Marshall did not need any bias with this set! (I checked and was prepare to set bias)

.I was happily listening to music on my Conrad Johnson CAV50 integrated amp when I started to hear some noise in the right channel. Eventually a fuse blew and took the channel down. Time to replace the output tubes! I opted to replace both channels and purchased a quad of EL34 Electro Harmonix from Custom Guitar's Friend. I had them within days, and I am back up and running. The amp never sounded better.

.I recently received a Musicman HD130 tube Bass amp. It has been in storage for many years because tubes weren't available in the 90's. I did some research and decided to try the EL34 quad set of tubes for this amp. I am very pleased with the result. I am driving (2) Carvin 8 ohm 15" 400 watt speakers in parallel, using the 4 ohm switch on the amp head. I haven't tried my guitar through the amp, but my Fender Bass sounds great.
