Up for sale, a 1980 Marshall 4140 Club and Country guitar amplifier in
exceptional condition and in perfect working order. This 100% original
vintage Marshall is fairly unique among the UK company's offerings of
the era, and while designed to compete with a Fender Twin, the amp
surely has some sweet, saturated tube overdrive on tap as well. Pushing
100 watts through a matched quad of EL34 power tubes, the 4140 boasts
two distinctly voiced channels with High and Low inputs for each. The
tone stack is surprisingly Fender-esque on this amp, and the Reverb is
perhaps the best we've ever heard on a Marshall, with incredible depth
and splash. The cleans are very detailed and round, with crisp note
attach and a complex, balanced sound. Rolling back the Master and
cranking the preamp gain does produce plenty of saturated chunk as well,
especially with humbuckers. .
The circuit retains the Drake original transformers as well as the stock
pots and tone capacitors, and the chassis is very clean. The power tube
quad sounds great and has been properly biased as well. In terms of the
speakers, the stock red frame 80w McKenzie 12" drivers are intact and
sound great.
Cosmetically, the amp is very clean, with original smooth brown
tolex and straw (wheat) grillcloth.
There is one small slice on the tolex on the top of the amp that you have look close to notice
The oversized raised Marshall logo
has a few cracks but is still intact, and all of the original knobs are
present on the minty faceplate. Both back panels are intact as well, and
even the stock quad of casters, original cover and footswitch are
included!
