Up for sale is an early to mid 80s Carvin X100b. This is the coveted 6L6 version without the muppet covering.
This amp is a sleeper in my opinion. Very underrated. Absolutely, wonderfully, painfully loud yet toneful. Lovely, warm clean channel that is a cross between a Twin Reverb and an early MesaBoogie. The Lead channel can do light dirt to shred-your-face-off. Tone on the drive side is also a bit MesaBoogie and a bit Marshall. With a good cabinet, this thing kills. It is also a fantastic amp to use with pedals.
I've had it since around 2012. I played it through a Marshall 1960B with Vintage 30s. Sounded HUGE. It is honestly a bit too much amp for my needs. It belongs out on stage and/or in a loud rock band or something. : )
This amp was recently serviced and re-tubed with a brand new matched set of JJs by my local amp guy, about a month ago. That alone is over $100. Only a few hours of playing time on the tubes. Externally it's also in great shape with some minor surface stuff, but no tolex peeling or anything like that. Unfortunately, I do not have the footswitch. But they are pretty easy to find on the web. I never needed it.
You cam make me an offer, but I am not going to move very much on the price.
Please keep that in mind. This amp is ready to play and damage your hearing : )
Also important to mention:
I can waive the shipping for local buyers that are willing to pick it up, plus you can try it out. Unfortunately shipping is a bit expensive, but I'll do it if you are not local to the Chicago area.
