Ordered sonic blue ...but the fretboard, between the 9th and 13th frets was "over sanded" or just a bad piece of wood. It appeared as if they over belt sanded the fret board and it gave a very shallow "scalloping" to that part of the neck. Also, that same area they used a "dye" or stain to try and cover it up. Sent it back, ordered the Candy Apple Red version, b/c it was from a different batch/manufacturing run, hoping the fretboard issue would not occur again. It did! Same area just not as bad. Fretboard on the Low E side between the 12th and 14th fret was over sanded and a light dye/stain was used. This is not being picky, it's simply stating a fact. Overall it was acceptable, especially consdering everything else this guitar has to offer.
NOW ...with that said, this guitar is amazing! Playability, looks, tone, pups, trem system ...SOUND. The THICK C neck is absolultely addictive. Rounded and comfy for traditional chording or wrapping the thumb ala Hendrix. The thickness of the neck along with the rosewood board imparts a heftyness to the tone, enhancing the bass response while still mainting the shimmering glassy strat highs. These models DO have the 12" radius, I'd never had a 12" radious strat, though my Les Pauls are all 12" radius. WOW! What was i thinking going with 7 1/2" radius? This 12" radius refuses to chock out notes, bending is a breeze.
I know I was dissapointed with the fret board issue ...but the rest of the guitar was flawless. The poly finish has no detrimental effect on the tone ...and it just "glistens" ...blinging that gorgeous candy apple red!!!
Summary: This guitar is THE best value I have ever found for any guitar ...ever ...all time. If you want or need a strat ...get this model ...in sunburst, sonic blue or candy apple read and your set.
