40 years ago I was using Ernie Ball Super Slinkies, when the store got in a bad batch of them that broke before I could get them to pitch. I looked for something else, found these, liked them and have used them ever since. They're cheap, last a long time, and give consistent intonation set to set. The pure nickel wrap gives a warm vintage tone and is much easier on frets than steel windings (most "nickel wound" strings sold today are nickel plated steel).
I believe that Fender no longer makes their own strings. These appear to be made for Fender by D'Addario (colored ball ends and poly bag packaging are a giveaway). I can't really tell the difference; though, to be fair, I don't have any old sets left to compare them to.
I settled on the Fender 150XLs after trying different gauges, as they're easier for my old fingers to bend. I may be heresy, but I string all my Gibson electrics with them.

.I love the feel of these mellow nickel strings for bending the heck out of notes. I avoided XL strings for a long time due to concerns about tinny tone (compared to heavier strings), but then I realized all my guitars are played through effects pedals that beef up the tone anyway! So why not go with a super comfy string for Santana like bends?? LOVE THEM!!!

.I have used these strings for many years and can't say enough about them. They have beautiful tone and durability. Their best feature is that they are "lightly rolled" which cuts down on finger squeaks significantly yet they still have good sustain.

.I chose these strings simply on their price. I was rebuilding a friend's Les Paul for free and wanted to finish with a inexpensive but OK set of strings. I was surprised how smooth they felt, how bright they sounded and how well they stretched out and kept tune when first strung. I am going to remember these when it comes time for me to restring.
