Product Description

Fender introduces a new model of what is surely one of its rarest-ever instruments, the semi-hollow Starcaster Bass. Only a handful of prototype models appeared during the mid 1970s, unusually distinctive as the only offset semi-hollow bass guitar in Fender history (to say nothing of its two enormous humbucking pickups). After decades of virtually fabled status, the Starcaster Bass now reappears in electrifying Modern Player form with superior sound, build and beauty ideal for bassists with a flair for appealingly unconventional Fender style.

The Fender Starcaster Bass guitar's thin semi-hollow offset body has a bound maple top and back, with stylish bound f-holes. A short-scale bass (30"), it has a "C"-shaped maple neck topped by the distinctively curvaceous Starcaster headstock, and a 9.5"-radius maple fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and black-dot inlays. Other premium features include dual Fender Wide Range humbucking bass pickups with three-way toggle switching, four skirted "amp"-style control knobs (volume and tone for each pickup) and a four-saddle Fender Hi-Mass bridge.

A very nice, well crafted instrument. It's fantastic that after all these years, Fender has issued this bass which originally never got launched. I was skeptical of it due to it's Chinese build, but overall, it's great, in fact, it's better than I expected it to be. It feels like a 70's Fender. A little heavy (like they were in the 70's) and glossy neck (like they were in the 70's).
Very deep sounding; think EB2. Very cool that Fender made it a short scale like the surviving prototype. Bottom line: In spite of it's Chinese build, it's a great bass and great value.

.Well built short scale bass; very cool that it has a high F on the first string, my '75 Fender Mustang only goes up to D. This bass is more of a thumper axe that plays well with fingers or pick; feels similar to a Precision bass neck. It is not much for slapping and snapping but I'm starting to find the sweet spot to do that in a pinch. I've been using the natural finish model regularly for about three months and get a lot of positive comments and questions about it. The Starcaster is a heavy bass so if weight is an issue you had better look elsewhere; if you like easy to play short scale thumpers this would be an excellent choice.

Was really pleased with this guitar right out of the box. Little to no set up required. Plays great but may be difficult for novices. The hollow body makes it necessary to have skills a novice may not have. The sound and electronics are great. A little heavy but otherwise solid insrument.

.Opened box and checked quality right away. No flaws anywhere. Made in China, but what isn't! Got the aged cherry burst and the color and grain is beautiful. Humbuckers are massive in looks and sound. The new designed Fender "hi-mass" bridge is exactly the same size/footprint as the Leo Quan Bad A II bridge. Volume and Tone knobs are similar to the Tele knobs and look cool. Strange headstock design, but adds to the character of this bass. Strings are ok, but will change to RS77S Rotosound flatwounds. No case available anywhere (checked Gator, Guardian and others), so have to go with the Fender gig bag for now. Looking forward to breaking it in at our next gig.
