This American Special HSS Strat looks sharp and plays great! I was very glad to see Fender expanding the AM Special selections, because I was looking for this configuration with a maple neck. I've been Fender loyal since I was about 15, and the American Special series allows me to build a collection of quality guitars/basses at a not-too-crazy expense.

.It's all Stratocaster plus that extra kick from the Atomic Humbucker. Love the overall tone and classic Strat playability. The downside issues are fairly simple to fix... I replaced the tuners with Fender locking tuners. It should come with a case, not a cheap little gig bag. The single coils can be replaced, but for now I've adjusted the screws for pickup height. From player to player, opinions wilil vary about the neck; it's wider than your average strat. I bend strings a lot so it works for me. All things considered, it's a solid value.
