Over the course of '69-'70, Jimi Hendrix appeared at a few of his most noted live appearances - Live at Woodstock, Live at Berkeley, and Live at the Fillmore East - using a mysterious red Fuzz Face Distortion with white knobs. That fuzz box sounded like a completely different animal from any of the other Fuzz Face pedals in Jimi's arsenal, snarling with a far more aggressive, biting tone.
The pedal itself has been lost to history, but its unmistakably unique tone lives on in the recordings of those three iconic shows, and Hendrix aficionados have tried to cop that sound for years. We are happy to say that their tonal quest can finally come to a glorious end.
Poring tirelessly over all of the different customized circuit designs Jimi used over the years, Dunlop's engineers narrowed down this elusive fuzz tone to a version of the Octavio circuit that didn't have the octave up signal. After making a few tweaks, they nailed it.
Now, you can get the same Fuzz Face tone Jimi used to woo the masses at some of his most famous performances. It comes in a pedal board-friendly Fuzz Face Mini housing, complete with an AC power jack and an on/off status LED.

This thing is a beast! It's got gobs of fuzz when played with a good tube amp, preferably with a little dirt, I think all fuzzes sound better into a on the verge of breakup amplifier imo. I've had the most fun with the fuzz at 3 o'clock and the volume at 2 o'clock. There it still cleans up pretty well, not as clear and bright as a true fuzz face but good enough to leave it on.
I've been cheating by using a Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret at lower volumes when the family is home to give the amp a little dirt but I got a chance to use it in a live setting with the amp cranked up (Fender 68 custom deluxe reverb 22w) last night in a hotel ballroom that had approx 150-200 people inside for a benefit show and it had no issue cutting through with another guitarist using a silicon fuzz face. I can't recommend this thing enough!
now why I bought it... I've been searching for this fuzz tone forever, I've had a Sunface NKT275, Fulltone 70, Dunlop Hendrix JHF1 and all three mini's, (the only ones I still own are the mini's these things are great!) All have been great fuzz faces but whenever used with a vibe pedal there's been this rasp, no matter where the vibe was placed in the chain. My search came close to an end when I got a Dirty Little Secret MkIII and had that to simulate a cranked Marshall.. Guitar>Wah>Fuzz>Vibe>DLS. The rasp was almost unnoticeable and I finally had that ragging fuzz tone with that throbbing vibe sound going on.
Then this came along, I've been trying to recreate that Hendrix at Woodstock tone for ever and I think this is it! Plays well with a wah, great with a vibe, cuts live, and has gobs of sustain and is just a great great fuzz pedal!

.The only complaint I have is I had a hard time fitting it on my pedalboard , I use a lot of different pedals and found a round pedal dosn't fit side by side to terribly well with square ones !! Other than than that it's a great pedal with a very nice sound .

.I order the Dunlop Band of Gypsy Fuzz face on first day Custom Guitar Friends posted it on its web site. This is the real deal! I tested it with the other Fuzz units at a local Guitar Center and this unit blew all the others away. It was so impressive that the sales manger was amazed by it when we did the comparison. It has a very powerful Hi gain and a Hendrix type fuzz. Dunlop really nail it with this pedal. Shop at Custom Guitar Friend if you wanna get your gear first.

.The FFM6 really does have the sound characteristics of Jimi's custom Fuzz. Add a Wah pedal and it sounds like Jimi's recordings. The guitar pickup selection and volume knob can control much of the tone and Distortion level with out adjusting the FFM6 knobs, going from thin and bright to fat and gritty. very well constructed. fun to play with.

.Great fuzz face pedal. I own the regular sized Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face and this one is every bit as good. Smaller footprint on the pedal board and interacts better with my wah pedal than the reguar Jimi Hendrix fuzz face pedal. Good, solid construction. The volume and fuzz controls are very interactive and the pedal itself is very interactive to the guitars volume and tone controls.

.I never really was a big fuzz guy nor one to buy any effects that claimed to be "Hendrix Signature" or be the next step to getting a Hendrix-like sound, but I am glad I made an exception for this pedal. Although it takes some work to coax them out, there are a lot of great sounds and tones lurking in the fuzz face past the advertised later-Hendrix fuzz tone and several sweet spots where the pedal is just wonderfully responsive. I would definitely recommend having an amp with a bit of warm distortion already going, ideally from driven tubes, when you kick on this pedal, the fuzz is a bit snarly which can get oppressively trebly if you aren't careful. Overall this is a great pedal though if you are looking for a very musical and dynamic fuzz or if you really just want that later-Hendrix sound.

REACTS GREAT WITH A STRAT AND A WAH , I DON'T SOUND LIKE JIMI , LIKELY NEVER WILL,BUT I HAD A FUZZ FACE IN 1972 AND IT DIDN'T SOUND AS GOOD AS THIS PEDAL.THE ONE I HAD WAS SECOND HAND AND HAD A RERPLACEMENT POT IN IT,AND NEVER SOUNDED THE SAME AFTER THAT,AND AFTER GETTING MY FIRST AMP WITH A MASTER VOLUME SAID FUZZ FACE WENT TO CITY DUMP. DUH. ANYWAY THIS PEDAL SOUNDS GOOD, GREAT WITH A LES PAUL OR ES335. ALSO SOUNDS GOOD STACKED ON TOP OF A VHT V DRIVE INTO A CLEAN AMP. (TAKES SOME TWEAKING BUT YOU CAN GET THERE) EVEN WITH A LES PAUL, THINK HIGH OCTANE FUDGE WITH NO SLUDGE.
