Product Description

EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 PRO is a modern guitar with roots firmly planted in EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's classic era when Epi's famed Kalamazoo factory produced rock's most legendary instruments in the late '50s and '60s. Featuring a reduced-size ES-style body and EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's new P-90R PRO "soapbar" pickups, the ES-339 P-90 PRO semi-hollowbody turns back the clock while breaking new ground in sound and style. Case sold separately.

A Legend Reborn
First introduced in the late '50s, the original ES Series became an instant rock classic that brought the feel and look of an archtop to a generation of players who had grown up playing solid body guitars like the Les Paul. But for some, ES-style archtops felt too bulky to play on stage or in the studio. Now, the ES-339 P-90 PRO is the perfect remedy featuring smaller body dimensions while still retaining the bell-like tone the ES Series is famous for. And, just like Epi's nouveau classic ProBucker humbuckers, the P-90 PRO "soapbar" pickups are a stunning recreation of the first generation of handwound P-90s which many consider the best single-coil pickup ever made.

Solid EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e Construction
The EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 PRO features a reduce-size laminated maple body with a solid center block like original ES-style classics and a black pickguard with metal "E" insignia. The mahogany SlimTaper "D" profile 24.75" scale neck has 22 medium-jumbo frets and is hand-set and glued with a mortise and tenon neck joint with Titebond glue. The 12" radius neck features a rosewood fingerboard with pearloid inlays and a 1.68" nut. Single-ply cream binding on the fingerboard and body completes the classic look.

Introducing the new EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e P-90R PRO
The Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 PRO features EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's P-90R PRO "soapbar" pickup, a true recreation of the first generation of P-90 pickups found in Les Pauls. EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e P-90R PRO single-coil pickups are individually voiced for rhythm and lead and provide a huge variety of sound choices for the modern guitarist. For those used to carrying two or three guitars to get all their favorite sounds, the Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 may be all you'll ever need to take to a gig from now on.

EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's guaranteed electronics also include standard controls for each pickup's volume and tone with smooth black tophats with metal inserts, a tough 3-way toggle switch, and an all-metal heavy-duty EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e 1/4" output jack that gives you a lifetime of worry-free use.

Tough EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e Hardware
The Ltd. Ed. ES-339 P-90 PRO features rock-solid hardware including EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e's LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece along with "Deluxe" tuners with tulip style buttons.

This is a new guitar set-up from EE-Epiphone-e with the addition of the p90's. Liked the range of the p90's so I'd gave it a chance (apparently mine is the first review). As stated fit and finish excellent I found no flaws. Natural was beautiful. Guitar was shipped out of Memphis which happens to be Gibson's home base where the semi-acoustic models are built. Wouldn't be surprised if they used Gibson's Plex system as their set-up is excellent (label said it was inspected and set-up in USA). If you want the coil splitters you won't find them on this guitar as they are single coil pups. Tone with P90's ranges from acoustic-like to down and dirty with a lot of variance in between, great range, great addition, excellent value. In addition to a number of other guitars I have a three year old Gibson Les Paul. The Les Paul is much more expensive but I would match the quality control on the EE-Epiphone-e to it with the EE-Epiphone-e having more tonal range. Hope this was helpful.
Epiphone ES-339 P90 PRO Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar Cherry
.This is a terrific instrument. The P90's are hot - louder than the humbuckers on my Gibson Les Paul. The hollow and semi-hollow bodies I've played in the past had a "fragile" feeling and would never stay in tune. I replaced the tuners on my old Gibson ES120, and it got better, but still fragile. This has none of those issues. The tuning stays spot on, and it feels thoroughly competent.

The only issue was the bridge seemed to be slapped on and intoned without its height being adjusted. The high strings were much higher than the low ones. Not a big deal to set, but it deducts from the 5-star rating this honestly would have gotten.

The fit and finish are otherwise perfect. Natural finish, dark redwood finger board, It has the expected semi-hollow woodiness, and I truly love it. Describing it to a friend, I asked, "You know what the Gibson on the headstock gets you? A lighter wallet!"

.I purchased this guitar about 2 months ago and it has become my new favorite. I chose Cherry and actually purchased it at my local GC after an afternoon of comparison with the humbucker model. I've always been a P90 fan (I own a LP Special with P90's) and I couldn't be happier with the overall tone and playability of this guitar. I play lead guitar in my church worship band and this guitar covers it all very well. I typically trade off with a couple of tele's, however, I've been using this guitar exclusively since I purchased it. Before I even took the guitar home, I had it professionally set up. I continued to make minor tweaks to the action as it settled in. It's now perfect and the intonation is dead on. It also holds tune very well which is very important to me. I own several guitars including American teles and strats and 2 Gibsons. Overall, I would highly recommend this guitar for the money.

.Probably my two favorite guitars in the world are a Strat and an ES335/330. I own two Korean-made 335's and a Casino Elitist, also Korean-made, and was simply intrigued by a smaller-sized, maple body w/mahogany neck archtop complete with a centerblock. The balance of this instrument on a strap is really outstanding. EE-Epiphone-e has also thinned down the heel area where the neck joins the body, making it even easier to roll your palm around the bottom of the neck at the upper frets to push big string bends and play high register riffs. I have never seen features like these on any Gibson-branded hollowbody or semi-hollowbody before!

Both of my Korean-made 335 copies have excellent humbuckers installed, and my Casino with it's dog-ear P90's has a very different voice as it is a true hollowbody. This guitar with it's newer-designed Pro P90 soapbars represents a nice step in between the two "versions" I have described. I also think that Epi's attention to and improvement in their electronics design and in the assembly, albeit in China, has improved greatly in the last couple of years or so. Switch, jack, tone and volume pots, and pickups all work great and sound great! The neck pickup is voiced to be more like a good Seth Lover humbucker or even a Jazzmaster, with abundant "fluty" tones that can get really dirty and gritty with a good fuzz pedal or a Tube Screamer.....very useable for Cream covers, Aerosmith, filthy blues, etc.

I mentioned above the paint finish and lack of proper sanding on the f-holes, but in fairness, it is only seen by the player able to look down on these edges. It would have taken perhaps five minute more to sand these surfaces and/or wipe the excess paint finish after the top cap was sprayed. I have read reviews that claimed the vintage tulip key tuners are made by Gotoh in high volume for Epi, but having owned several sets of their butterbean key sets over the years on some of my Fender guitars, I do not think this information is correct. Both the B and G string machines were so full of backlash in the gearing, they would not hold a pitch for more than a few minutes. The entire lot was pitched in the trash and replaced with a set of single line, cream tulip key Kluson's. You must also replace the headstock bushings, but it is no big deal if you have a 10mm deep socket to place in the back of the peghead holes to tap the old one's out. The nickel finish on the factory key housings was very old and worn looking...bad choice for a new style guitar. MF gave me a store credit for the replaced tuners based on my word during a phone call, and I am more than happy with the way it was handled.

While the neck had a desireable curvature and relief to it out of the box, the TOM-style bridge was raised a small amount on the high side, and then the whole thing lowered for a perfectly straight and even action up to the 18th fret. No buzz, no sharp edges, and the jumbo fretwork is very nice. A properly slotted Corian nut graces the end of the rosewood fingerboard. The single ply creme binding is flawless to my eyes, so there are some aspects of the finish and detail work that EE-Epiphone-e has concentrated on recently and greatly improved.

One of the blessings of the reduced size and weight creates a virtual nightmare in trying to find a case that fits correctly. Don't even bother with what you might think are logical choices like a 000 acoustic case or one made for a LP double cut, etc. Fact is only the EE-Epiphone-e or Gibson-branded cases specifically made for the ES339 guitars will fit. Access cases overseas replaced TKL for most of the EE-Epiphone-e cases, but they are well made and fit the instruments correctly at a fair price for a hardshell.

.This guitar covers my three needs which are p90s, light weight and looks great. The Pelham blue is stunning in person. The guitar played really nice straight out of the box. Checked for buzzing and didn't find any. Intonation was spot on as well. Neck feels great, slim but not too slim. The epiphone prophecy series and squier classic vibe series would be my definition of too slim.
Epiphone ES-339 P90 PRO Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar Cherry
.I had a genuine Gibson back when I was a touring musician from 1963-1968, but I sold the guitar before I had to leave for Vietnam. I can no longer afford the genuine article, but when I unpacked this guitar (Cherry like my old one) and played it for the first time, I was truly thrilled with my purchase. Thanks to Custom Guitar's Friend....great quality, and terrific service!
Epiphone ES-339 P90 PRO Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar Cherry
.The set up was fine out of the box. The guitar has a nice feel and the pups have true P'90 tones. The smaller body size is very nice. I had one issue, and that was I could hear noise from static electricity when my picking hand was in contact with the pickgard. I removed the pickgard and the noise was gone (Shielding it would work too, I would think}. Overall I'm very happy with the guitar. If you like semi-hollow bodies and P-90 tones grab one.
Epiphone ES-339 P90 PRO Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar Cherry
.I've been playing and repairing guitars for over 50 years. This is one of the best guitars I ever bought new, Everything is Gibson like. The pickups sound very vintage great. The tuners stay in tune after a week of not playing it. The innotation was right on with plenty of adjustment left if needed. I got the red one which is beautiful and can't find a flaw in the finish. The only thing I did to this guitar which is unheard of was lower the action just a hair. I hope you get the kind of guitar I got because I'm giving this guitar a 10 out of 10. One guitar I will never sell. With the binding on the neck and the vintage tuners and pickups it should say Gibson on the headstock. Extremely pleased. Plus I never write a review.

.In 40 years I've not received more for my money(adjusted for inflation of course)
Epiphone ES-339 P90 PRO Semi-Hollowbody Electric Guitar Cherry
.I've always liked P-90s, and own an Epi LP double-cutaway with 'em.

The level of finish on this guitar is excellent at this price-point. I ordered this guitar and received it very quickly, but the neck pickup tone control was non-functional. MF sent a new guitar immediately, and the second unit functions flawlessly. I did need to perform a setup on both instruments, however -- action was a bit high, even for someone like me who likes the action a bit higher than most people, and intonation was 'WAY off. Once those minor glitches were corrected, it plays great. Playing through a 2-watt Vox Li'l Night Train into a 1-12 Jensen speaker, volume @4-5, tone @10, it has a nice, smooth tone. Crank the guitar volume to 10, and even with the Vox at about half volume, it had a REALLY good bluesy grind going on. Back off on the tone, it's still good, though it does muddy up @~3. Through a '59 tweed Deluxe, Neil Young showed up.

I changed the strings from the factory 0.009s to 0.010s, and redid the intonation. I think it sounds better with heavier strings.

I REALLY like this guitar. I also bought an Epi hard-shell case. This guitar's worth it.
