Product Description

A staple in the Iberia Series, the F7 features the traditional flamenco wood combination of a solid European spruce top paired with cypress back and sides. It is incredibly lightweight, built in the Spanish tradition with a slightly thinner body depth than a classical guitar. Featuring a flatter neck angle which allows for low action, and the bright, snappy tone characteristic of flamenco guitars, the F7 is the perfect guitar for both beginner and intermediate flamenco players. The built-in truss rod makes adjusting the neck angle on this guitar a breeze. It includes a clear flamenco-style tap plate.
Includes deluxe padded Cordoba gig bag.

This is a review for the Cordoba F7. I have examined and played two of these. The tone of these guitars is good for the price. The shallower design produces a more appropriate percussive tone that is the hallmark of a flamenco guitar. The basses are powerful and the trebles are clear. Playability is generally good. The action out of the box is not as low as a proper flamenco guitar but it is lower than the typical factory-made classical guitar. The major drawbacks of the F7 are its build details. The European spruce top is not of an attractive grade. The fret ends are not rounded and will feel sharp. The laminated cypress back is not bookmatched. The finish can be uneven. One sample had a headstock veneer that was not centered. Some of the gears in the tuning machines feel tight. Some of these problems can be fixed but that will raise the cost of this guitar. The Cordoba C7 (the F7's classical twin which sells for the same price) is so much better built with a finer grade top and bookmatched veneers that it leaves me scratching my head as to why the F7 is so slapdash in its construction. I'm hoping that Cordoba reads this review and improves its next generation of this guitar.

.I went to a guitar store specializing in classical guitars, and tried out a whole lot. For the price, I could not find a better-sounding guitar (if you are after the flamenco sound).

Other options: While I originally intended to buy a Cordoba with cutaway and electronics, I found that those guitars (despite from being 50% more expensive) lacked in the quality of sound. A pickup from something like Kremona would cost a lot less.

Sound: This guitar has a very clear sound - something you want regardless of the type of guitar. The notes do not sound muffled or dead. The flamenco construction adds to this by producing a shorter sustain, and a very bright tone. At times, it sounds similar to bells ringing. Additionally, there is a little bit of fret buzz on the bass strings when played hard - nowhere near the amount of buzz a flamenco requires, but the bridge had a lot of room to be sanded down if that's what you are after.

This should go without mention, but this guitar is made for a flamenco/percussive style of playing. It is entirely possible to play classical music on it, but that music will sound better on the classical equivalent (Cordoba C7).

For percussive playing, tapping various regions of the top produces a range of sounds from dull to sharp and bring - lots of potential there.

Construction: I found that this guitar is built very well. It would be nice to see book-matched top and bottom, but this is after all an entry level flamenco guitar.

Value: I think this is a great guitar for the price. Nothing sounds better (flamenco-wise) in guitars up to two or three times the price. Not to mention the gig bag, and truss rod - something a lot of guitars do not come with.

The Cordoba F7 I received was impressive right out of the box - attractive wood, finish and tuners. The guitar is amazingly lightweight which makes for a more responsive instrument. The tone is rich and balanced with more bass response than I had expected. No doubt the tone is due part to the quality Savarez strings that come stock. The action is appropriately low with some desired flamenco buzz. Frets are well finished with no sharp edges. The neck is wide (2") and flat which I prefer but I may not be a match for smaller hands. The intonation is right on up the neck. The guitar is quite responsive, with quick attack and tight overtones making it well suited for flamenco and finger style. Overall the workmanship is high quality with two slight exceptions. The clear tap plate was slightly frosted with microscopic bubbles near some edges where the adhesion wasn't 100% perfect. Most of this pressed out by carefully applying fingernail pressure around the edge. Also the sound hole rosette is lackluster (decal?), not unattractive but nothing special. This lack of appeal is offset by the gorgeous tuners that feature an embossed black/gold vintage metal design. I am satisfied with the quality, especially at the price.

Overall the guitar has the tone, playability, looks and vibe that motivates me to want to pick it up and play it.
