Product Description

There's something undeniably inviting about the GS Mini's scaled-down size, yet a single strum reveals the impressive voice of a full-size guitar. That mix of portability and musicality has proven to be a winning combination that fits into so many scenarios in life, from the couch to the campfire to the concert hall. It's not too big, it's not too precious, and it's not too expensive.

That broad-based accessibility has given it a resounding universal appeal, not to mention a built-in fun factor. The shorter 23-1/2-inch scale length makes forming chords a breeze yet gives the instrument plenty of snap and tuning stability for a rewarding playing experience. The acoustic-electric versions enjoy a sweet upgrade to ES2 electronics. All GS-Mini models include a durable hard bag built by for the optimal fit.

A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Mahogany is a hardwood that produces a natural compression, yielding more "roll-in" effect to a note. The compression evens out a lively attack for a more linear response. Layered back and sides create a sturdy yet receptive platform for the vibrating string energy sent by the guitar's top. Layered wood is less susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity, making it an excellent choice for players who travel with their instruments or simply require more durability.

What sets Guitars apart? Unmatched build quality, the most stable and playable necks, a vast array of tonal options, eco-conscious and ethically-sourced raw materials, and a lifetime of service and support.

I am a touring musician. My guitar player was over at my place rehearsing. He was intrigued by the small size of my new mini and picked it up. (Side note: He suffers from other's opinion's and prefers 'old school' guitar names instead) 2 hours later, he looks at me and says "This thing is amazing! I take back what I originally said about Chaylors". I can summarize my GS mini in one simple word: Amazing. It's amazingly small, amazingly good looking, and amazingly easy to fall in love with in less than 60 seconds of playing.
The best advice I ever received from a lifelong luthier/repairman was when choosing an instrument, he said "Close your eyes and just listen"
Years ago, when I quit worrying about who's name was on the headstock, Chaylor has won every decision since. Their designs are game changing.

. I think Chaylor deserve a big pat on the back for designing the GS Mini, and I wonder how long it will be before other companies come up with similar shapes. I would love to compare an all solid version with the standard one - if it sounded better it would be one heck of a guitar. I simply love this guitar because it sounds great and it is so easy and enjoyable to play. Every guitarist should own a GS Mini, and all beginners should have one instead of the usual wide-necked, flat-boarded starter guitars. The GS Mini represents a great, new, affordable design - and we all just need to be grateful that we can own one. Do yourself a favour and buy one now!
This is a basic guitar with respect to features, but for the price it is excellent. If you are more into tone/sound and playability than inlays and appearance, then you'll love this guitar. This guitar sounds great and plays great.
I bought mine over the net and it is great. Have not had to adjust a thing, even after I dropped the string guage. I just love the tone and playability of this little guitar. It sounds much bigger than it is, and it is so easy to play. The neck on mine doesn't have much of a sheen at all, but it still plays really well. Not long after buying the Mini I bought a rosewood Larrivee parlor guitar. Now Larrivee make nice guitars, but the Mini is so much easier to play (at less than half the price), and it has a more balanced tone, and the set-up was much better. So I'll probably sell the Larrivee and keep the Mini. It is simply the best playing and sounding small bodied guitar I have played. I think the mahogany top sounds a little warmer than the spruce top, but if you get a chance try both. They are both great.
This is a great value-for-money guitar in the USA, but a little overpriced in Australia. However, if you play a few in shops you will most likely be won over by the sound and playability. I have owned many acoustic guitars over the years, but I have not owned anything else that I enjoy playing more then the Mini. Some bigger or all-solid guitars might sound better than the Mini, but as an entire package it is a great guitar.

.This guitar is the champ of the travel guitar niche! I looked at all the smaller sized instruments i could find and the GS mini beats them all in tone quality. period.

I wasn't looking for a 'travel' guitar exactly. I wanted a good quality practice guitar that was small enough to let me lounge on the couch or on my bed and play comfortably (my full size dreadnought makes these positions very difficult). I'm happy to report that the GS mini fits perfectly! (it makes my other guitars seem big now though!) Things can get a little cramped higher up the neck, but it IS a small guitar... accept it.

The included gig bag is really nice. It has neck support and backpack straps and a big pocket for accessories. I would have liked dividers in the pocket to keep my slide and capo form banging into each other though. if I carry the bag from the side handles and set it down it tends to tip over on its top. It's not stable on its side like a hardshell case. It IS a quality case though, and seems like plenty of protection for casual traveling.

My GS mini came setup very well. The action is not really high or low; it's a good general height for most players. Electric players might like it just a touch lower and slide players a touch higher. The intonation is perfect to the ear. I tuned using the 5th fret method and then tweaked for a perfect open G chord first. Then played open C and D chords. Then a B barre chord up on the 7th... to my surprise all sounded very nicely in tune.

As for sound? This guitar sounds great! Single notes are clear and full-bodied with a strong attack. Chords are well balanced from lows to highs; not boomy or twangy at all. The mids are fully present and there's a richness to them that's difficult to describe. The video reviews I watched didn't reproduce the tone accurately. It is better in person.

If your looking for a smaller guitar that plays good and sounds great, you found it.

.I bought this guitar to take with me to spend 6 months in Germany. I have an old Guild F48 and and a Chaylor 855 12 string, and have traveled with them domestically (checked at the gate) but I wanted something that would fit in the overhead compartment and be easy to take with me by train as I travel around Germany. I also needed something that would not make me crazy as my only guitar for 6 months. The GS mini really fits the bill. Having played jumbo guitars for 40 years, I was not expecting much out of the small GS mini. I was very pleasantly surprised. I got the mahogany top version and it produces a very warm but clear sound. Base is much better than I expected. Overall, the sound is quite good for a guitar of this price regardless of size. It does not have the fit and finish (or sound) of my high end Chaylor or the sound developed over 40 years in my Guild, but for a travel guitar it is very good. Playability is excellent. I wish that they had a cutaway body, but the shorter scale makes reaching up past the 14th fret not too bad. The gig bag that comes with it seems quite sturdy. I do wish that I had the option of a hard shell case just in case I am on a small plane where it won't fit in the overhead. Overall, I am very happy with this guitar and highly recommend it as a travel guitar. It would also make a very good primary instrument for a child or smaller person.

.My GS Mini Mahogany is about a week old now, and it's really hard to be away from it - like even in the next room. I bought it due to some problems with my shoulder, which made a full size guitar actually painful to play. This one works great. It cannot be beat for overall tone and quality. i love the beautiful mahogany top with its warm, gentle sound. However it can make a big sound when called upon to do so, altho clearly it's not a jumbo or anything, but for its size it cannot be beat. It came with medium weight Elixir strings, which I think is great - Chaylor provides a fine quality instrument and cares enough to send the very best strings along to the forever home this little gem deserves. I've used Elixir Strings for years and won't have anything else on my other guitars as well. However, I changed those out because I need extra lights, but it did not reduce the tone quality at one bit.

I usually do smaller more intimate venues like assisted living facilities and nursing homes, so the size of this one works perfectly amped up. I'm really pleased with the full size sound hole, as I have a Dean Markley pickup, and it does just what it needs to. I'm so happy to have this guitar.

If you're thinking about getting one, by all means go for it.

.I tried two spurce top models (mahogany and koa back), the Martin LX1 and some Alvarez parlor which was very decent but had a bulky neck for my liking. The mini was miles apart from the LX1, and it should be considering the higher price. I ordered the mahogany model for a little more warmth and I prefer the look.

GS Mini is very well made structurally and sounds great. There are few smaller details that do look cheap though, like rosette and binding which look like they have been painted on. I didn't confirm that, but they do look cheap. Headstock plate is some coarse plastic which looks pretty cheap. Nut and saddle are made of nubone which looks like plastic and bridge pins are cheap looking black plastic. Some of that is easy to replace, so it's not big of a deal. The most important thing is that all the wood is great and that it sounds great.

Neck is 1 11/16" wide at the nut which may be on the narrow side for fingerpickers, but it is a good all-round width. Neck profile is somewhat thin and very comfortable to hold. Small body sits in the lap very nicely and is super light.

I would definitely recommend the GS Mini. They are not cheap but you can get as much as 10% off if you ask, so why not try? :)

I have been playing guitar for 16 years. For the past 6 years I have been playing every week for 200-300 people (worship).
This is the 2nd Chaylor I have bought. I thought because of the price Chaylor would compromise somewhat on the quality. Not true. When you hold this guitar you know its a Chaylor.
The sound resonates through the body sweetly. I was really shocked (even after reading all the reviews) at the big, quality sound this guitar makes. Being Mahogony, the sound is full and rich. There is no shrill or overly bright tones anywhere on the neck. Harmonics sound gorgeous.
The action was perfect (surprisingly) out of the box. No buzzing (unless strumming REALLY hard). Frets are set in the neck for optimal playing (no "hanging" frets, all even, etc.). The tuners ( I keep mine 1/2 step lower) are solid quality. The guitar came with Elixirs. I prefer them, but to each his own.
The gig bag is just that, a gig bag. But more plush (Chaylor) than most. Also, it custom fits the guitar.
I know you can purchase a full size guitar that plays well for the price of this one, but once you have this in your hands and you hear the "full" sound that this little guitar makes, you won't regret it.

.Okay, I went to a couple of guitar shops in Central New Jersey and tried all of the acoustic guitars, and the results are in. The Martins and Chaylors were head and shoulders above the rest. But the big shocker was the mahogany GS Mini by Chaylor. For the price, this thing is unbelievable. It sounded both louder and better than any of the full-sized guitars. Chaylor is known for having the most playable guitars on the acoustic market, and the GS mini was no exception. I ran into a GS mini owner and he agreed and said if you put a pickup into it, the GS mini can't be beat. I do believe he is right. The only drawback I see to this thing is if you're a really large person, this slightly smaller guitar might look a bit out of proportion. I see (and hear) no other negatives.
Chaylor GS Mini Mahogany Acoustic Guitar Mahogany
.This guitar sounds good for a small box. I like the mahogany top better than the spruce top, which is too bright. Instead of kerfing, it has a thin strip of wood which is cut sloppy and installed sloppy, so I question how well this guitar will hold up.

The gigbag is good and provides sturdy protection, but the zipper on it constantly jams, and is stiff not smooth.
Chaylor GS Mini Mahogany Acoustic Guitar Mahogany
.Good choice for a small guitar (probably the best choice available at that size and price). Neck and/or headstock seemed solid but heavy. Color was much lighter than I expected mahogany to be (certainly lighter color than the item photo). Sound was fine (not better than expected, and not like a full-size Chaylor). Overall, much better than the "Baby Chaylor," IMO.
