It gives me a pure guitar sound and makes the guitar sound better than ever before
I bought a delay for my guitar 27 years ago, it was a Boss DM-3, it went out on me a couple of months ago and could not be fixed. I tried 3 different ones from Custom Guitars Friend, I tried the DD-3 twice and it came close to being what I was looking for, after working with it a while I started getting the sound I was looking for, It sounded so good I have to set my guitar and amp every day and play it, I am 78 years old and don't play the clubs anymore but this delay gives me a better sound than the DM-3 I had for 27 years,
It is well made and will last from now on.
It is well worth the money I paid

.do yourself a favor and get the boss dd you can spend more on delay that wither next to the tonal integrity of this stomper; also dont forget getting the 9v adapter or another power source as these seem to gobble up 9 volt batteries
i wont bore you with the features as the rest of the reviewers have done this already.
the reason for this dealy is simple; your guitar tone does not get sterilized through the effect

i tried a more expensive delay and my guitar tone (fender strat through a vox ac15c1) dissappeared-- sounded like i was back on my crappy solid state and cheap guitar-- no thank you
switched back to the boss dd3 and i'm back aboard the tonic gravy train

just get this delay and forget about it for the next 20 years
rugged, simple, and compact
the fact that guitar and amp tone dont get compromised makes this a steal- i would pay 2 times as much without hesitating

also; the direct out feature can be used in some creative ways as well so this might just be the greatest effect bargain in the history of music

.This is a great delay pedal. To help those who have some initial doubts, I have created videos that go straight to the point and demonstrate adjustments to familiar songs and creative ways to use this pedal and thereby enable them to learn how best to apply this effect.
My personal settings and samples for use this delay:

.If a great delay pedal is what you need --- get this one! You will never regret the extra money spent. You can pick up an AC adapter for $7.00 from another source so you don't feel the pinch of buying the $30 BOSS adapter.
I got the BOSS DD-3 Delay Pedal for exclusive use while playing Blues Harmonica. I had previously tried a multi effects pedal from another manufacturer that had lots and lots of effects that could be programmed. What I discovered, is that almost all of the effects available are totally useless for amplified harmonica use. Also, I found that even though the multi effects unit had a lot of options --- it did not do any of them very well.

Tha BOSS DD-3 does only one thing -- it's a Delay Pedal -- but it does this function very, very well! That was the only effect I really wanted, so I exchanged the multi effects unit for the DD-3. I would much rather have a pedal that done only one thing -- but does that one thing well -- than to have a choice of dozens of effects which are only done -- sort of OK --.

There are less expensive delay pedals out there (yes, I also have one of those gathering dust), but this is definitly a case of "You get what you pay for".

I am rating the DD-3 as a 9 out of 10 because the unit DOES NOT come with an AC adapter. A 9 volt battery does not last all that long, and is a bit of a hassle to change (especially if you're playing somewhere). What you want is a nice fresh battery, and then use an AC adapter. That way you're covered no matter what!

I would suggest to BOSS that they include the AC adapter. This will make the unit a 10 out of 10 and keep customers from getting irritated with having to spend more money on an AC adapter.
Built like a tank -- metal -- not plastic.
A little pricey, considering that it does not include the AC adapter.

.In response to another review here, all the "Mode" function on this pedal does is select the length of the delay times. If you don't care for the sound of the DD-3 that's one thing. But, if that's the case, it isn't because of the Mode knob.

Call me crazy, but I actually like to have some options when it comes to delay times. This is especially true with digital delays, which typically offer longer repeats than analog units.

I love tape and old-school BBD analog delay tones, but when I want more clarity, precision and less coloration, I stomp on my DD-3. It ain't for everyone, but it ain't trash, either.
Boss DD-3 Digital Delay Pedal
.Overall this is a great pedal. It's not too expensive, it's sturdy durable material, and perhaps most importantly, it provides great natural sounding delay. You can tweak it to your liking and produce different sounds and styles. I'd buy this pedal again if I ever lost it.
It does what it's meant to. Create beautiful delay. I use it the most on the middle and long settings and it's just plain amazing. Couple that with the knobs for feedback, time, and echo(delay volume) and you get a huge variety of sounds. The hold mode is pretty neat as well. You can use it as a mini 1 sec looper.
This thing feels extremely durable. I have not thrown it or beaten it or even droped it but I can bet the full price of this thing, that it would still work. The sound is top notch as well. Very good natural delay.
This is just a bit on the expensive side, but if you're planning on getting serious about your music, it's a steal. I'd recommend this pedal to anyone.
Boss DD-3 Digital Delay Pedal
.I have a Boss DD2 from the early 80's and thought maybe they improved on it. I could not be more wrong. For starters unlike the DD2, this one kills the tone in your chain. In addition the actual delay is extremely sterile and lifeless, I actually cringed when I A/B them. Find a DD2 if you can!
Boss DD-3 Digital Delay Pedal
.This is a classic digital delay from Boss that gives clear and precise repeats if that is what you are looking for. I have an analog delay as well, and use that for certain things. But for some music, the clarity of a digital delay can't be beat.
Boss DD-3 Digital Delay Pedal
.A delay needs three controls, delay volume, delay time and number of repeats. That's it. This pedal has those three controls but unfortunately it also has a "mode" control which destroys any hope of getting a clean delay sound. My Epiphone Joe Pass guitar sounded like it was in a tin can. There seems to be a maddening preoccupation by manufacturers with modeling sound.
Boss DD-3 Digital Delay Pedal
.This is my second Boss delay, the first one died on me after 23 years of constant use. So I would say that these Boss products are not bad. It is a digital delay that can give you pretty much any amount of time that you need & no noise. I like equipment that I can use & not have to outwit, so I went for the DD-3. It does what it is supposed to & that is what I need. 5 Stars
