A beautiful guitar for all the senses. Purchased about 10 years ago from Elderly Instruments in Lansing, MI. I'm playing more acoustic guitar these days, and a guitar this nice deserves to be played more frequently so up for sale on Reverb it goes.
Recently evaluated and adjusted by Gryphon Stringed Instruments in Palo Alto (CA), one of the best and most reputable guitar shops in my area. Here's what they had to say about it:
"This
1968 Gibson Johnny Smith is very playable and it sounds great, both
acoustically and plugged in. It's in good structural condition but it has had
some work done over the years. There are signs around the heel that suggest
that the neck may have been removed, perhaps for neck reset, but we can't be
sure what was done. The joint in now tight and stable,
though. The fingerboard binding is showing small cracks at the fret ends near
the cutaway, and the finish is showing signs of checking. The
binding was loose around the tailpiece, which we re-glued here at the shop, so
it is now tight. The pickup and electronics are original but
the volume knob on the pickguard has been replaced. There are a variety of
small nicks, scuffs and nicks here and there on the body, but nothing significant."
Comes with hardshell case that came with the guitar when I purchased it from Elderly, but it is not original. I'll also include cables to connect to an amp that are specifically designed for this guitar.
