I should start by telling you all that i play modern metal, not classic rock or anything close. I bought this pedal a few years back hoping to squash out the hiss in my amp due to my use of an overdrive in front of the amp.I used it in front of my amp with a ts9 in its little effects loop. it was very difficult to get the start-stop quick djent style stuff i wanted without a feedback remnant always cutting in. also, there was a noticable amount of cut on any palm-muted notes and really any note played would not sustain naturally. any setting on the decay would not help. but, i had to have the threshold up pretty high to knock out the hiss. you must also know that i am using a horrific amount of gain with a 6505+. I have the post gain maxed out and most other things maxed out as well. After much research and saving, i invested in the isp decimater g-string. this product was on a whole other level. the things that the ns-2 lacked this thing just has. It senses when you are playing, instead of opening a gate when you play loud enough. Even with my extreme gain settings, overdrive in front, booster in the effects loop, and volume all the way up on my guitar, i can start-stop all day long just like periphery and animals as leaders. plus, my palm muted notes fade naturally as do normally fretted notes. Another thing i have recently learned is that the ns-2 manufacturing process uses lead free solder, whereas the ns-1 has lead based solder. This resulted in a big difference in signal integrity, and is very evident if you leave the pedal on bypass and play something, then removeit from the chain, and play something. it darkens the tone alot.

In conclusion, if you want play the new styles of metal with all the gain and start-stop, buy the isp decimater g-string or pro rack g.

.This pedal does what you need folks. i've had this pedal for the past 2 years and im here to tell you that this is best noise gate i've used BY FAR!! I use a ton of gain and this thing just keeps everything nice and tight. This will take a bit for me to explain, but this will be VERY helpful. Here's my rig; 5150 > NS-2(OUT) and (IN) to my wireless. NS-2(RETURN)>CH-1>SD-1>JD-4S>ZW WAH>NS-2(SEND). Set the Threshold to 3'o clock and use the volume knob on your guitar to control the amount of gain you want and you're set. Just turn the pedal on and leave it alone! I couldnt be happier with my setup(that is until i get a HUSH Super C for the efx loop!)

.If your using a high gain amplifier, or running your guitar through a series of pedals, than you need to do your band mates and your audience a favor and use a noise gate. The BOSS NS-2 is an excellent noise gate and I think most people would be very satisfied with it's performance.

.This pedal is great if you use it well. I found that there are 2 ways to use it: 1-after all your noisy pedals and effects, in a linear mode, or 2 - use all the noisy pedals in the "Send/Return" chain.
The second option is much better because you can really control the threshold and decay you want.
On my research I saw that this is the most versatille pedal for the money and bought it. So far it is doing exactly what I expected from it.
Bottom line this is a great noise gate.

.I still can't seem to figure out what people are talking about when they say this thing sucks tone. I've had mine just over a year now and I still wonder how I ever got by with out it. The bottom line is that it does exactly what you need it to and nothing less. If you play guitar and love having lots of unnecessary noise and feedback, you could probably survive with out one. But for everyone else, get the NS-2! You wont regret it.

.I'm playing out of a peavey 6505+ and this thing is AWESOME. I never had one for the first six months and now im kicking myself wishing i got one 6 months ago. i can play on the lead channel with the gain up EXTREMELY high and no feedback. Before i got it, you had to be SO good at muting all strings. just the slight bump would turn into a screech. now that i have this, my amp rips and it seriously sounds EXACTLY like Oli Herberts set up.

.After reading the comments on this pedal and checking out the videos of it in action on Youtube, I decided to try it out. First, the people who said it "sucks tone" are right BUT ONLY IF they turned the Threshold Level knob all the way up. IF they were smart enough to read the instructions (Admittedly, the instructions could be better. Looks like they were written by someone for whom English was not their primary language. If you're still not sure how to get the most out of it, check out Youtube, they have some great vids showing how to use it properly.) So do what the instructions tell you to do, adjust the Threshold and Decay knobs properly, and you'll have no problems with your tone. This pedal works great with guitar, bass or keyboards. It removed all the hiss from my signal chain when I tried it with guitar and bass and adjusted it to each instrument. Absolute silence! From a tube amp! Love it!The pedal comes with a "wall wart" so you can plug it into your power strip and don't have to use a battery all the time (it comes with a 9V battery already hooked up so all you have to do is plug and play, just don't leave the cables plugged in or it will drain the battery). This pedal also has an additional power line out that, when used together with the optional BOSS PCS-20A Parallel DC Cord, lets you hook up as many as 8 additional BOSS pedals without taking up any more outlets on your power strip. Bottom line - Great pedal for the price! Just Remember -"WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!"

.Owner of 4 years of this pedal. I play high gain death metal and never had any problem with it. I use it at my band's practices, for recording and live performances. I used it with a Rocktron Vendetta, Peavey 6505+, ENGL rackmount and it always has done a wonderful job. It will suck up your tone only if you turn it all the way up. You do, however, have to find the right balance of gain from your amp and the level of the pedal to make it work at its best. Once it's done, it will never leave your pedalboard.

A good noise gate is a key element for your rig, and the Boss NS-2 is a great candidate. The ISP Decimator is great too, but since I never had any problems with the Boss NS-2, I never felt the need to buy anything else.
Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal
.perfect for what i do! cuts out all that unwanted feed back. Love it!
Boss NS-2 Noise Suppressor Pedal
.All-in-all this pedal is good. I'm playing through a mesa boogie roadking 2x12 (dual rectifier). I play in a power/heavy metal band, so we do high gain stuff. I also use a ts-9dx to boost my signal and throw a little extra grit on it. I'm also playing through a pair of blackout humbuckers with the gain boost enganged. I'm also using an eq pedal in my fx-loop but no extra level boost (I show some restraint). So, in otherwords, the high gain channel on my amp needs some noise suppression.

When plugging my guitar in and setting it up in my fx-loop in what people on-line seem to call the "x-pattern", (after all 2-3 of the other pedals I use) I notice a change in my tone when I activate this pedal. Also, I have to mess around with my amp a little too much to help the NS-2 do its job. Basically I want a pedal that I can throw in my loop or something and kill the feedback and hum but not change my sound, or make ME change MY sound. This doesn't quite pull it off. It's way better than nothing, but if you play really high gain stuff like I do, consider yourself warned. Really good, but not quite the total package.
