DO NOT BUY THIS PEDAL! it will not work on you 75 percent of the time you own it. you'd think line 6 would have heard about this and started putting out new and improved models but I have not heard of ANY plans for this. it is NOT a reliable pedal and you are wasting your money...
Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal
.Let's face it, if the God's on Mount Olympus wanted delay, they would have used a tape delay. But as someone who has used tape delays live and in the studio, I have learned one very important thing in my years of experience, don't use tape delay's live unless you like living on the edge (not in a good way).

I'm not one of those purists who thinks that digital killed the audio star and that tape was the best format or any of that other nonsense, but tape delays have those remarkable imperfections that create spontaneous sonic magic so I have been chasing that tone in a more relaible format for years. I have a tape delay unit as well as other analog and digital delays (including the Reel Echo) and each has their own unique cool, but my search is pretty much over. I don't think I'm going to get much closer sonically and simply put, I love this pedal. It can re-create pretty much any delay sound I want including my coveted tape delay sound, without worrying if my tape unit made the journey safely. It's durable, the switches are smooth and the unit is big enough to adequately see the controls when playing live. If you write songs, this has the power to inspire some really creative ideas.

There is one legitimate con, which is that it takes up a lot of pedal board space. The unit does sound a bit processed at times and not as natural, but I like that, so if you are a purist, you may find this a problem. Also, if you need exact setting references, there are no LED read outs to guide you (like the new Vox delay, which also sounds more transparent). I've tried the new Vox unit (big Vox fan one of my favorite amps), but, for a delay effect, I am looking for that smooth reliable sound, giving up on the tape benefits live and in certain studio situations.

This unit needs a lot of time to play with and I suggest that you read the manual first like other Line 6 products to really get a full idea of the unit's potential. All in all, this is now the best non-tape delay unit that I own.

.I bought less than one year ago and broke easily and not it does not have assistance technique in Brazil.
so much frustrated.
Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal
.This pedal has a lot of cool ghosts and is a very quirky pedal in a good way. You can nail the chorus and warble from the famous Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man. If you set the repeats and delay time on the Analog with Mod preset all the way down, you can work the Tweak and Tweez knobs and it now functions as a straight up chorus pedal. So much use in one pedal. The looping function rocks too. I use the DL4 and I also have a MXR Carbon Copy on my pedalboard. Between those two pedals, its all the delay I could ever want. Don't wait, buy the DL4.
You will never get tired with the 16 different sounds.
My only problem is I can't run it of my power brick. I tried a 9V and 18V power cable to run off the brick but it is a custom jack. Why?
There is so much versitility and all the sounds are at your feet. I owned the Boss DD-20 and you had to scrole through the presets (not so handy when your on stage).

.This is a great delay pedal. Very versatile and can achieve a lot of different sounds using this. Very easy to dial in a sound you like and it is responsive to the way you play. Have had mine for a couple of years and it can take a lot of abuse. Probably the only thing made by Line 6 that I've liked. Only have two complaints. One, the power supply is ridiculously big and a pain to deal with if you already have a ton of cables to dodge. Second is the delay looper is somewhat confusing and would love to learn how to utilize it but in the two years I've had it I still can't get it to work well. Digital delay setting is mainly what I use and it sounds pretty close to my old Boss DD-3. Anyways, I love mine and will probably never use any other delay again unless I'm recording and want to play around. Great pedal overall, buy it!
Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal
.I owned this effect pedal for about a week, and though that may not be sufficient enough time spent with this device, it was more than enough time that I wanted spend learning how to operate a delay pedal. Personally this pedal was less impressive than most other pedals. The main reason I was drawn to this device was that it allows you to store up to 4 settings and recall them through the foot switches. However, this was not as simple to do as I had wished.

I would personally recommend a Boss or Line 6 multi effect pedal with delay on it if you wish to switch from one delay to another. Otherwise I would recommend Boss DD7. Most professionals only use one, sometimes two different settings on their delay. Unless you're playing some extremely delay-related music, one or two different delay settings is probably all you need. If this is the case, buy 2 DD7's...it costs about as much as buying this thing, and I believe you would get a better result.

.i fooled around with a few delay pedals before finally biting the bullet and buying my dream pedal, the DL4. I bought it brand new from MF and it has worked perfectly for two years now and i have no regrets. I am, however aware that there are some not-so-great quality ones out there. So, i have recently done some modifications which included bare-metal finish, new resistors to help with the volume drop issue, 5mm water clear led's and (of course) new switches. My switches did NOT crap out on me, but once i opened the case and saw what i was dealing with, i was disappointed by line 6. that being said, everything else is solid as a tank. the sounds are great, and the flexibility is unrivaled in my opinion. and it's just plain sexy. Definitely worth the buy!
Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal
.Second time this thing broke, i would highly suggest going for another pedal. look at the videos online of how many people have problems with this as well. to high of cost to fix. Tech support has not helped at all, for the price its a great pedal but you have to understand it will only last you around a year to two years until it fails
Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal
.This is probably the best delay pedal on the market. I'm not a fan of Line 6 and pretty much hate all of their digitally based amps and pedals but this one is pure awesome! It has a lot of different delays to choose from and all of them can be modified to your liking. 3 presets and tap tempo plus a looping effect. I've owned mine for over a year and still can't really figure out how to do good loops, but besides that, it can come up with any delay sound that pops into your head. I've also found that using this pedal opens up alot of creativity and ideas for writing. Sound quality is very very good. So good that I run it in front of my amp, I don't even bother with the FX loop. Although the digital delay on this pedal isn't quite as good as the boss dd-3, the fact that you can boost the delay volume and add more presence when entered as a preset makes up for this. The only beef I have with this product is the ridiculously large power supply. Had to buy a smaller one. It does get in the way and can come out easy if you don't pay attention and trip on it. Oh by the way, this thing is built like a tank. Overall, if you want pro quality and top of the line delay, the DL4 is the best option out there.
Line 6 DL4 Delay Guitar Effects Pedal
.I bought my first Line 6 Delay in 2003. I have played it for thousands of gigs, on top of hours and hours of home and studio use. At live performances, I mainly use the pedal to loop acoustic guitar. Some people may be turned off by the 15 seconds of loop, but all you need to do is start looping with your 1/2 tempo button on, which doubles your loop to around 30 secs.

I've used the line 6 for some studio recording, including looping and harmonizing some electric E-bow parts. I recorded them backwards onto the pedal, then used the Reverse feature. That sounded killer when mixed with another delay and reverb pedal.

I have 4 Line 6 Delays now and I mix and match Delays and loop them both for vocals and guitar. Maybe line6 will eventually make a new pedal where you can use the delay features like the 'Sweep' or 'Ping Pong' while you loop... it would save a ton of space!

I've taken decent care of them considering they do a lot of traveling, have been dropped, rained on, etc. They are heavy and durable. Unfortunately, each pedal has broken a footswitch, which I've had to replace. It was an easy fix... all you needed was a new switch, screwdriver, wrench, and about 30 mins.

This pedal is a must-have, and I recommend trying it out and playing with all of its features before buying a DL-20...hated it!
