Product Description

In addition to all the boutique qualities and hot-rodded tones that guitarists have come to expect from the ValveKing series, the new generation line incorporates brand new cutting-edge features for recording and performing musicians. For the recording musician, the ValveKing features a USB-direct recording output, which pipes the miked amp vibe directly into a computer. On the rear panel, the built-in Peavey MSDI (Microphone Simulated Direct Interface) XLR direct interface eliminates the need for miking by allowing users to send the amp's signal directly to a recording device or mixing console.

With versatile tone for rock, jazz, or metal, the new generation ValveKings have the capabilities to create almost any sound imaginable. ValveKing's proprietary Vari-ClassTM knob enables guitarists to adjust the ValveKing's "class" characteristics, allowing for complete power amp type versatility. True to its name, ValveKing even includes the new TSITM tube-monitoring indicator that keeps you apprised of the health of your tubes.

ValveKing offers other high-end features, including variable power control, so you can tailor your output to your performance situation without compromising tone. With triple 12AX7s, two independent foot-switchable channels each with their own EQ, and the Vari-Class variable Class A/AB simulation control, the next generation ValveKing delivers massive amounts of completely customizable all-tube power.

I'm not sure where the first two reviewers tapped into their negativity. A friend of mine owns a store, not two miles from my home. I've been dropping by and playing this amp for weeks now, both during busy hours and during times when store is empty and I can crank it.
Honestly, this is the finest guitar tone I've heard from Peavey. The cleans are touch sensitive and as warm/Fendery or as bright/Voxy as you would want, and the dirty channel allows you to make use of every control.
Honestly, I have tuned in to just about every point along the pre-gain and master, I've fiddled with the push buttons, with the damping, the variable wattage, the presence control, the reverb, etc., and I've gotten everything from my favorite Robben Ford/Larry Carlton tones (it does Dumble style tone in spades with the pregain low, to singing classic rock, Allman Bros., early Doobies, Zeppelin, Bad Company, whatever your taste in great classic guitar tone, it's definitely in there. Obviously, it will do metal and shred, most Peaveys will, and it does it easily and with tuning ease.
It's also very, very quiet, no hissing issues. The effects loop is excellent, no volume matching or signal strength issues at all.
I cannot find a single negative with this amp. It roars and sparkles at low and moderate volumes. It offers great sustain and even feedback at low volumes, if you want that. It will also rattle your sheetrock on clean and dirty channels.
Obviously it's only 20 watts, so going un-mic'd at an outdoor show may not be advisable. As far as small to medium gigs, it will fill a room with no mic to the PA. I haven't mic'd it up myself, but I cannot imagine anything but great results.

Honestly, and no offense, the first two guys sound like sour grapes Marshall employees.

This amp is the shiznit, I promise you. No matter what your taste in music, you can dial in and play your heart out. Very satisfying piece of gear. I've actually just sold a very expensive boutique amp (a great one, I won't mention the name) due to some other financial needs. I'm going to get either this or the 50 watt. I honestly am excited about making music with a high quality amp that I didn't pay much for.

.This amp was ok at home for minor use but i tried using this amp at two different places outside my home. One was the place we practiced and the other was an outside venue. The amp was a total let down at those places. The other guitar player had a small solid state 15w amp and it totally blew this amp out of the water. I had to crank this amp to full volume to just get this thing to produce anything that might resemble a tone. I ended up having to borrow another bands amp to use for the show. When i got back from the show i went straight to the music store and traded it in for a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III. My days with Peavey amps are over. Sorry if this review is a bit harsh but i just get fed up with equipment that doesn't work. And yes i've had plenty experience with that, i've been playing for almost 30 years.

.Let me preface this by saying I ran this all through an American Strat SSS, and tried just about everything to find a style that there isn't a tone for. Couldn't do it. You get cleans in pretty much every voice, and the EQ is super responsive. Dirty channel does just what a Peavey should, rock hard. While I didn't dive into super heavy stuff, I played a bit of Megadeth and Pantera and it handled it really well. You can get great crunch out of it too. I'm not too wordy, but what I can definitely say is that for home use, I've never gotten a better tone and more diversity out of an amp than this one. The ability to lower the wattage is especially helpful for late night playing, and for the price it's definitely worth it.

.I wanted to try a peavey tube amp, and this amp was pretty good. Loved the watt selection and the other features. Peavey amps rarely break, and I wanted an affordable reliable tube amp.

The only thing i would critisize on this amp was the construction was to light duty for the price. The back is wide open and the plywood was rather thin. I know weight is always an issue, but the back should at least have a screen or a cross board. also hard to use on an amp stand with wide open back.

The sound was good, but after cranking the 20 watt version up with the band, I found the distortion sound was a little harsher than the marshall i use. I ended up swaping this amp for a marshall 112 as I do preferr the marshall sound. We all have different ears, and the sound was still good, but I am a marshall guy. Overall, this amp is still a good value for the cost.

.This is a fantastic amp for the price. When they say it rivals boutique amps, that's not just talk. Excellent on both channels and great for recording. 20/5/1 switch means you can get great tone at home without disturbing the neighbors. My other tube combo lives in the closet now.
Peavey ValveKing II 20 20W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp Black
.This amp has tons of useful features. I like the power attenuation for at home playing the most. Its light to carry, is built very well (real plywood cabinet!) very responsive and musical. The chicken head knobs are a nice touch. I swapped the stock preamp tubes for some "JJ" and it really made a noticeable improvement in sound quality. It seems reliable and I a very pleased with my purchase. Great job Peavey!

.I'm used to my lighter, smaller solid state amp. Really love the tone of the Peavey though.
