Overall i give this bass a very high rating. I've been playing 4 string bass for 10+ years and decided to start adding in 5 string bass to my playing and I got a chance to get a used one of these at a great price. After playing it and a couple of other 5 strings they had I grabbed this - it blew the others away in sound and bang for the buck. I can't say enough about this bass - just a great overall 5 string for anyone who wants to get into playing a 5 string but doesn't want to spend a ton of cash until they find out if it's for them. The only thing i wish is that they would offer more colors - mine was the basic black and they only have the orange - i would have liked a metalic red or maybe white with black hardware would be nice. But - i guess they keep the cost low by minimizing colors. I would rather have good solid features and playability over looks any day. I can recommend this as a great first bass for anyone just getting into bass or who wants to try out playing 5 string but wants the best bang for the buck - this is the bass to get - hands down.
Nice sleek neck - easy to play. Tuning is stable. Decent top load bridge but would have liked a through body loaded one - may change to a different bridge later but it works for now. The controls are - volume for neck pup, volume for bridge pup, master tone and the Phatt II control that boosts the bass. This is not an active bass - the pickups are passive - but the Phatt II control is a booster pre-amp that will fatten up your sound. The pickups are nice soap bar type pickups - a bit more bassy than jazz bass style pups so more meat to them so they will work better for harder core music. These are not active pups - the bass boost comes from the booster circuit that is connected to the Phatt II control (smaller knob) that uses the battery and a small cirtuit board to boost the bass level and really fatten up the sound. The 2 volume controls and the tone control are all passive pots and work just like standard jazz bass control layout.
Ibanez always makes great quality instruments. I have an Ibanez acoustic from back in 1980 that i still have and it is a fantastic guitar and still plays and sounds excellent. I can't believe how great the quality is of these inexpensive Ibanez bass guitars. If i was a newbie this is the bass i would definately get. The workmanship and inspection is very high compared to many other low cost beginner instruments. Great quality.
Once again - for a low priced beginner instrument this is one of the best values you can get. I played several other low priced 5 strings when comparing (and a few higher priced ones) and found that - for the price - this blows the others away.

.Since 1978 my primary bass guitar has been a Rickenbacker 4001 Stereo bass I named 'Ricky'. I also own Fender Jazz and Precision basses, and all of the above are 4-string axes. When I visited my local music center in search of a 'Low B' (5-string) I HAD to have this bass guitar. Although I did test the more pricy guitars, the feel and string spacing of this Ibanez bass resembled that of 'Ricky' and the others just did not compare. When it was time I replaced the original strings with some 'Blue Steel' and the sound is unbelievable! Other bass players that have heard it have admired and given it high praises. Bravo, Ibanez, you now have me thinking about a '6-string'!

.Jumping from a heavy 4 string Epiphone to this beauty was an awesome experience! It's narrow and comfortable neck is a highlight, I found string spacing not to be a prob. Sound is also great and it has a beautiful rounded shape. I have been using it actively for 3 yrs to now and have to say, it's light weight is definitely one of my favorite features, additionally tuning is very very stable, requiring only small adjustments if weather changes. On the other hand, I had some problems with electronics, some re-welding was needed, battery replacement ain't easy, an snap-on lid would be preferable, but that`s it. With more pros than cons (price included), this bass is a very good choice, it won't disappoint you.

.I'm just your average metal-head trying to get famous and this guitar has provided me and my band with the feel and drive that has brought us to where we are today. Ibanez, I sencerly thank you for creating such a beautiful instrument. I would recommend this bass to anyone that has an intense thirst for metal.

.great beginner bass or someone who just wants a 5 string. idk how it would go professionally, but it sounds professional to me
I'm a new bass player so I don't know how good the features are but as you can see it has 4 knobs and 5 strings. more than enough for me
great beginner bass. I have no experience, so I honestly don't know how it compares to others but I love it
great price for a 5 string it seems
Ibanez GSR205 5-String Bass Black
.Picked one up in a pawn shop for a steal, but would have payed full price for this! It's not expensive and very solid. Played it non-stop and only had to tune it once a week! It has a piano-like growl to the low end, similar to a Warwick. If you are looking to get into the world of 5-strings, this is a good place to start!

.This was my second bass and now my main bass. Ive had it for about 2 years.I have the B string tuned to a drop D, instead of B. I like it better that way.You can do anything with this bass. I use a Zoom B1 effects pedel, and on any of the settings it sounds amazing. Its good for any genre. I Highly reccomend this bass. The only problem I had with it is that I thoguht it was a little bit plain. So I used green electrical tape to use as fret inlays. It looks sick. Great bass, you wont be disapointed with this bass. Ibanez Rocks!!!

.I bought this bass Christmas of 2006, and I am very pleased with it. I had it re-strung after I bought it at a local music shop. Four shaping knobs on this bad boy really give you a variety of sounds!! It is definitely not a bass that has features that serve no purpose. The neck plays incredibly fast. Great overall!! I recommend this to anyone, especially if you still want money in your pocket afterwards!!
Ibanez GSR205 5-String Bass Black
.I got this bass bout' two years ago.Since then, I have not taken any care whatsoever of it, and it's still pretty dirty. However, it still has played great throughout that entire time, the tone is kinda mediocre, if you want something better, go for an esp of equal price.
Ibanez GSR205 5-String Bass Black
.Great for that signature Fieldy sound. I play through a Behringer, and the pickups have almost no unwanted feed back. Of course though, playing with some bite will cause feed back, but even then, it's minuscule. This thing is loud too, and the pickups equal that of an EMG in my honest opinion. Over all, for the price, whether you're a professional or a beginner, it's hard to pass this bass up!
