This is a nice high quality little classical guitar. I love the tone of nylon string classical (I think even better with higher action) and I think this guitar is about as good as it will get with half size. The nylon strings (G, B, E) can sound almost like a full sized instrument in tone. But, the lower half is where there is compromise forced by the tiny body, and makes the whole thing sound mid-rangey. But it still sounds pretty nice. It stays in tune and the intonation seems dead on. All chords and fingerings sound good. The effect of such short scale length is that the strings a not high-strung, and relatively loose. This means they bend easily, which can throw your playing off tune if your not careful. But played gently it sounds fine. Due to this effect though, I wouldn't be interested in anything smaller. It also is bit difficult to do cowboy chords for larger hands due to smallish width at nut - but I can manage it. It basically sounds like a miniature classical guitar. I can satisfactorily play classical pieces on it.

The finish is beautiful, nice high gloss, nice warm gold colour spruce top, nice warm reddish brown high gloss back and sides that looks fantastic in sunlight. The inside even *smells* good! Appears very well made, what you'd expect from Ibanez. The only semi disappointment is that the "rosewood" fingerboard does not appear exactly as it does in the picture - that is a nice dark rosewood with visible dark burgundy-brown grain patterns, etc. I noticed some "black" on my finger after playing it - which is either uncleaned sanding dust from an ebony-like rosewood (even better!), or most probably a black stain (maybe not fully cured) to make some cheaper light coloured rosewood look like ebony. I don't object to this, because I love the solid black ebony look of a classical fingerboard with no fret markers. So either way works for me, and after lightly wiping (very carefully!) with a damp cloth, and much playing, more did not rub off. I might have preferred to see a nice dark rosewood as pictured, but I actually like ebony black better as a look so it's fine.

The action is perfect and my guitar actually came with a second bridge saddle, I have no idea why. Until I remove strings and check, I am assuming it is so I can make the action higher, which will produce even louder, better tone. As it is, it sounds pleasing and is certainly easy to play with zero fret buzz (which I can't stand), so that is good.

Overall, for the price, they produced a great little guitar spending money where it needs to be, such as spruce top and mahogany neck, tuners, quality build, etc, and using inexpensive but good tonewoods for back and sides, with possibly inexpensive light colored rosewood that has been stained black for the fingerboard, or a very nice dark (high quality) rosewood(?). The bridge is a nice dark rosewood - not stained. It sounds like a miniature classical, and if you were in the next room and heard it playing, you could easily be very surprised to see a half size guitar when you come in the room! I am very pleased with the purchase.

.Not a toy, literally a half sized classical guitar, which is saying something if you have tried to find a suzuki instrument or a travel guitar that is actually nice to play. This is it. I also have the Hohner half-sized and there is a big difference between this one and the Hohner. The action was nice and the sound was warm. But the real clencher that showed me this was a real instrument (which I know I have said before, but if you have ever shopped for an instrument this size you know that a lot of junk is passed off for instruments) was the truss rod. Would buy again, very nice.

.I purchased this guitar for my 7 year old daughter. As usual service from MF was excellent. The guitar arrived earlier than promised and securely packaged. I am very happy with its quality, size, fit and sound. It is not a toy and not some low quality piece of junk capable of little more than teaching a child to play. To the contrary, this little guitar is amazingly well made. The appearance, fit and finish are excellent. It's size is perfect for a child and, despite its small size, it is easy for an adult to play. It makes a perfect travel guitar. Finally, it has a nice sound. It does not sound like a full-size guitar, but for its size, it sounds good.
