Product Description

The Ibanez JEM7V Steve Vai Signature Electric Guitar is a top-of-the-line 6-string solidbody capable of exploring the most extreme sonic territories at any speed. The 5-piece maple/walnut neck is super-smooth for easy riffing and incredibly strong and stable with a lead-friendly thin and flat profile. A 25-1/2" scale and bolt-on neck joint get you lots of bass and treble response with a quick, precise attack. A 43mm nut provides comfortable string spacing and 24 jumbo frets deliver greater range while the recessed tremolo provides right-hand playing comfort and allows notes to be radically raised as well as lowered. The alder body produces clear, full-bodied vintage tone that serves all your needs from chunky rhythms to searing leads. A trio of screaming DiMarzio Evolution pickups (humbuckers at the neck and bridge with a custom single-coil in the mid position), coupled with Split-5 wiring give you all the tonal diversity you crave. And of course, there's Vai's signature Monkey Grip on the bass-side body wing. Includes case.

Alder body
Best known as the body wood for the classic single coil, bolt on neck guitar, alder produces clear, full bodied vintage tone that works well for lead or rhythm work.

Rosewood fingerboard
Rosewood offers a strong, bright sound and an attractive appearance with a long grain.

DiMarzio Evolution humbuckers
The Evolution neck and bridge humbuckers are the result of 2 years of research to come up with the right sound for a very demanding player and his axe: Steve Vai and his Ibanez JEMs. Both pickups are designed for maximum impact and power. The neck pickup is fat, punchy and loud. The bridge pickup is tight, aggressive and louder. Both pickups have a patented dual-resonance configuration to reproduce more harmonic overtones than conventional humbuckers. The Evolution pickups were originally designed with live gigs in mind, but they have so much presence and definition that they're great recording pickups, too; they slice right through even the densest mix.

Overall this is the best guitar I have ever played and until someone comes up with something better, well........

If you want a great playing, great sounding, FANTASTIC looking ax, then look no further.
This is my 3rd Jem 7(sold one and had one stolen at a gig ). I own 28 guitars right now which include a gibson gold top reissue, 2 custom shop strats, a John Surh rear route, a couple of Epiphones, and a few off brand frankenstien project guitars not to mention my Martin and Taylor acoustics. The Jem 7 blows them all away. Great tone, great playability, very hot output from the EVO pickups, and the looks of the white on gold have no other rivals anywhere. I've been an active playing guitarist for over 34 years playi ng any thing from country to heavy metal and this guitar can do it all(I only wish I had had one of these back in 1978 ).

I've read some of the reviews about the price of the guitar. I really can't see how anyone can say that this fantastic guitar is too pricey when Gibson is selling their guitars for almost double the price of the Jem 7. As I stated earlier I own a Les Paul and paid a lot for it but in my opinion the Jem is the better guitar in all respects. You get what you pay for and this guitar is well worth any price!!! I highly recommend this ax to anyone who has a discerning eye for beauty, a good ear for excellent tone, and the chops to realize what a great player this guitar is.

.had it for close to three years...and is the best guitar I ever own...playability...weight...great axe. Used to have a Fender American deluxe telecaster and a SG 61 reissue...and comparing to them in all ways ....its a 5 stars!!!

.I bought that guitar like a 2 weeks ago, and i opened 3 days ago, and i saw the guitar was used. The pickguard came with scratches. The strings appear just a little bit old. So, i didnt complain it because i hate to return the guitar and take another one, much time. But i really paid the price for the new one, and i have 1 used like a new...

.This is an astounding guitar. I've owned one for a few years now and just decided to review it now. This instrument does cost an arm and a leg to own but it is definitely worth every penny. It is better than any guitar that I have played that is more expensive than it. My only complaint would be that one of the saddles broke around a year and a half ago, and a replacement piece was quite a task to find, seeing as they started putting a different bridge on the JEM7V the year after I bought it. This guitar has been very versatile to me over the time I have owned it, playing at some points Jazz music and at others Metal, two complete polar opposites; doing both well. I would definitely recommend this guitar to anyone looking at buying a more pricey instrument.

I own a Gibson Les Paul Buckethead Signature Series, 76 Strat, 89 Charvel Model 5, and Ibanez JEM 7vwh.

Of all my guitars, this is the one I play the most (followed closely by the Les Paul). The JEM 7v just feels good in your hands. There is something about the design that makes playing it seem much easier than any of my other guitars. The tone that is produced through the DiMarzio Evolution pickups is right on par with the excellence expected from this guitar.

About the only negative thing I can say about this guitar is this: If you buy this guitar and have a low end amp, you will immediately be tempted to spend every penny you have to get an amp that can match the capabilities of the guitar!

.This is a very good guitar, it is very fun to play, and it sounds incredible. However aside from the great looks, and the improved electronics, I have played my RG-450 side by side with the JEM and I have to say that the RG may still have the JEM on playability. I'm not sure if I'm just not used to the JEM yet, even though i've been playing it for a few months, I just feel free'r on the RG. I think I might sell this guitar back and use the refund to beef up the RG's electronics... I've had my RG for about 15 years and it may not look like much, but it is a workhorse!

Back to the JEM, if you've got the money to spend and you want a great looking/sounding guitar with little to no room for improvement right out of the box, I would strongly recommend this guitar. If you are on a budget, I would recommend looking at some of Ibanez's cheaper models that are in the same family, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

.There are many guitars out there that are good for fast "Van Halen type," playing. This is the best I've ever played. That would be between a Peavey EVH Wolfgang, A Musicman Axis HH, a JS100, and a JS1200. This is the best quality, has the deepest tremelo cavity, has the best look, weight, and everything else. One of the features that it doesn't mention in the specifications, is the fact that the last four frets of the guitar are scalloped. That is a really nice touch, because it allows greater bending capability at the highest frets. It's a very good guitar. I would tell anyone who likes to play fast, to try this out! Happy Playing!

.I thought I'd offer a review from the perspective of someone who isn't necessarily a pointy guitar fanatic, being one who is more inclinced to vintage type instruments. A friend recently purchased one of these guitars and offered it to me to play for a gig one evening. I took him up on it and here are my thoughts: First, this guitar has a BIG, resonant sound and is quite flexible in its tonal palette. I thoroughly enjoyed playing it and was able to move from expressive clean tones to searing lead tones with ease using a tube screamer and a class A amp. The fretboard is flatter than I am used to, but it and the neck were comfortable overall. The non-gloss finish on the neck was smooth. In feel and tone it is similar to a hot-rodded Strat. However, the quality was disappointing. There were runs in the paint and imperfections in the finish that shouldn't have been allowed to pass inspection for an instrument in this price range. To me the guitar is highly overpriced. Disregarding the cosmetics and connection with Steve Vai one could purchase a similarly equipped Strat for a lot less money and achieve the same ends. Well, except you'd lose out on the rock god aura! Overall, it's a fun and enjoyable guitar to play but I wouldn't buy one because, and only because, of the price.

.I decided on the JEM after comparing it against the Jackson soloist (SLH), the Fender HSS, and a range of others (including other RGs).My desire was to find a guitar with wide tonal range that was first and foremost easy to play, light weight, could accept low action without buzzing, had a very good neck, and had a good trem. My criteria did NOT include vintage reproductions (but interestingly, it has good sound compared to a 62 strat reissue). I love the guitar. It is a bit too pricey though.

.I owned a jem back in 2012, but because of financial problems I had to sell it. I had my first jem for about 3 months before I had to sell it. I decided to buy one again since I love the look. Before I bought the jem I spoke to customer service in order to find out the manufacturing year. The online tech told me it was a 2016, the guitar was used and he told me this in February 2016, so I did not believe him. I decided to call the Private Reserve team and asked him what was the guitars year, he told me it was 2015. I thought 2015 was pretty recent so I decided to but the used guitar. I received the guitar and immediately checked the Serial number. It was a 2014 model, I was soo mad and felt cheated. I know its only one year of a difference but that just meant that this guitar had the chance of being damaged during that time. I was very disappointed and decided to return the guitar. The return process took about 1 week and a half. Very disappointed with Custom Guitars friends.
