Played through my 70's Princeton Reverb, with either both pickups or the bridge alone, this Modern Player Thinline Tele sounds killer. A jazzier sound than the solid body Fenders, but still plenty of bite. I played blues, jazz & some classic rock instrumentals (Guitar Boogie Shuffle & Memphis), and was happy with the sound & action. If people heard it on a good tube amp without seeing it, they'd have no idea it is an inexpensive guitar. And the neck doesn't feel like a cheapo. A pro setup will get you the most out of this guitar.
The pickups are P-90 types, and sound very good with the maple neck, which gives them some needed bite. The string-through feature is adds to the sustain. The transparent black finish really looks like dark brown with big grain patterns, which is nice. The maple neck is well made, & is pretty fast.
The quality is certainly more than acceptable for an entry-level Chinese import. There were no apparent flaws in the construction of the guitar, which means the quality control is good. It is playable out of the box. The ersatz P-90's sound good & aren't noisy for single-coils.With a pro setup w/ 10's, it plays & sounds phenomenal.

.This guitar has pleasantly surprised me. I bought my MP Thinline because the neck felt good and I had been wanting a thinline. The pickups surprised me with a balanced tone and fair harmonics. I considered changing out the pickups but then I discovered that this guitar comes stock with 250k pots and 22uf capacitors. These do not suit P90's well and I replaced them with 500k CTS Pots and Mojo Dijon capacitors. HUGE difference! Now the pickups have very full harmonics, a very hi-fi sound with a very full bottom-end and crisp high-end bordering on conventional tele bite, but with a much fatter sound, plus with the 50's les paul wiring schematic I used I can control my gain with my volume knob and retain all the treble. On top of that the neck has a wonderful feel for me with a medium c profile that isn't too thin or thick and the body and neck balance quite well on a strap. If you get this guitar I would definitely reccomend changing out the pots/caps and wiring scheme. I'm by no means a guitar tech but I performed all of the set up and modification myself for only 45.00 usd. After that I think you will find this guitar very surprising and good!

.To be honest, I'm not the most experienced or skillful players around but this guitar definitely is pretty solid, at least for a first guitar.

It looks great, with a thick gloss finish on the vintage sunburst.

The guitar stays in tune since day one after I got it at the guitar shop and came with excellent strings.

The guitar is quite versatile. The P90 pickup can provide some excellent clean tone. Also, the dirty sounds can be done really well too.

As I've said, my opinion is still one of a beginner. But I'll recommend it to a friend :)

I've owned this for about a month and I don't regret the purchase. I may sell it soon because it's not exactly an inspiring guitar to play, but a good utility player. On par with the Epiphone Casino reissues. They cut a LOT of corners to offer this guitar at such a low cost, but that is to be expected. It's a decent sounding instrument, especially for the money, but it just doesn't truly compare to high-end and well-made guitars.
I love the smaller fret size, the neck shape, string-through, and vintage tuners. I also like that they're trying to offer a decent (affordable) hollow-body design. The input jack is much clumsier than the classic standard Tele's. It's nice and lightweight.
The pickups are okay, but don't expect it to compare to real P90's. The electronics in general (pots, capacitors, switch) are definitely sub-par. The tone controls are unuseable. If you want this guitar to be at its best plan on replacing those parts (which are very inexpensive). Also, mine has MANY slight blemishes, especially around the F-hole cutout. The neck laqure is inconsistent and slightly blotchy in places. The pickguard has a lot of minor imperfections.
I give it a higher rating when you consider its low cost. The sound is not terribly versatile, but I wasn't expecting that when I bought it.

.I like Telecasters and already own three others, I bought this one mostly for the P90 pickups and the thinline sound. Man, am I ever glad I did, even though this thing is made in China it is 100% Telecaster! The P90 pickups give it that Tony Iommi SG sound just in a Telecaster body. I am really thinking about getting another one just to set aside for when I wear this one out.

Through my Vypyr 120 tube amp this thing really rocks that old Sabbath sound like War Pigs, N.I.B. and Into the Void.
I bought the transparent black thin-line and the fit and finish is perfect. I pulled it out of the box and tuned it and it was ready to go. This is now may best and favorite guitar, it might not be right for everyone but I love the sound of the P90 pickups.
Not one bad thing to say about this guitar! The quality is outstanding.
I have been looking for a guitar like this for years. The value for the money spent is great! Plays better than much high cost guitars.

.I love this guitar. I changed strings, tuned up and plugged in. Great set-up out of the box. Vintage tuners mean there is a slot instead of a hole. A YouTube video on the subject will help...First impressions are the great solid feel of the instrument. Very woody tone. Use quality cables and the hum won't be an issue. Straight into a Bogner Alchemist, the clean sounds are fantastic. It's not easy to dial in a heavy distorted sound. But the P-90 p/u are very responsive to pedal effects, more so than any guitar I own. Love the LP style toggle switch on top and I use all 3 positions. First song inspired to play? Sultans of Swing. Also dialed in VH mid scoop cut without any problem. The natural distortion produced by the guitar would be closer to fuzz. I play clean and very heavy rocks tones. The weight is also great. No fret buzz on this model. These MIC Fenders are equal to or better than the MIM models. The 3 tone sunburst is flawless under inspection. Although the F hole is sort of hidden in the darker part of the finish. I can see this guitar being used for anything except shred metal. The bottom end isn't crunchy enough, although this can be cured with the right gain stages and effects. Both Coldplay and Weezer have been using the Fender Thinline as of late and I can see why. You hear the guitar, not just the pickups. Outstanding value.

.A tele fan found a new misstress! love the 3 way switch, in a familiar place if you use LPs. p90s with the thinline body sound great. don't expect the twang of chicken pickin', has the p90 power that translates picking texture. packs a punch from a lightweight, comfortable to play!

Amazing.
This guitar is absolutely fantastic. I was initially put of by reading "assembled in China" on the back of the headstock, but to my surprise, this guitar really blew me away. The tones are great, the guitar stays in tune throughout heavy playing, and the action is pretty great. Hammer-ons are easy, the neck is comfortable, and you can really hang on a note for a while when pitch bending too. I highly recommend this guitar.
Excellent quality. The finish is great and I love the vintage tuners. The guitar stays in tune despite heavy playing.
The value is probably the best thing about this guitar! I've played several Thinline Telecasters before, and I'd say the Modern Player series is among the best Thinline Telecasters out there. Again, I know the "assembled in China" thing may be of concern, but don't let it fool you. This thing is a quality product!

.If you're looking for a light weight Fender Telecaster not expecting that classic tele sound this is a good option also for me having a '76 Tele it gives me a nice option for sound. So overall I'm very pleased with the purchase and I can play it around the house acoustically not having to worry about damaging my original Tele.....thanks Fender
Playability superb....love the tele feel with the maple neck. Obviously different sound with the P-90 style pickups...sounds cool.....extremely light weight
Overall the body is high end quality & looks, I went with the black transparent and absolutely love it...love the feel of the tele maple style neck however mine came with a slightly lifted fret that was repaired professionally now no problems....as stated in other reviews pods and other electronics are not high end but fit the price wonderfully....still sounds nice....
Again for the money, a Fender Thinline for this price is a nice value

.This is a great combination of features at a great price. Basically control setup from a Gibson Les Paul, as in individual volume and tone for each pickup and a three-way toggle switch. This is the best setup in my opinion. Hardtail bridge and vintage tuners. I think the pickups sounds great. Surprisingly good. I've been playing Gibsons mostly for the last ten years and this is my first venture back to Fender in a while. Very happy about it. Guitars I've owned: 2x Mexican Telecasters, Mexican Strat, Japanese Fender Jaguar, 2x USA Gibson SG, RD Artist, Epiphone 335, Guild s300, Guild x175, Harmony h57, others. Style I play - anything from Barney Kessel to chicago blues to radiohead to Sabbath and Soundgarden. While this Tele will not do the heavy stuff that requires a humbucker, it will do most anything else. I play through a Vox, but I'm sure it would sound amazing through a Fender.
