Product Description

1968 was a transitional year for Fender amps, with tone that was still pure Fender but a look that was brand new. With a silver-and-turquoise front panel and classy aluminum "drip edge" grille cloth trim, the Twin Reverb received a fresh new face as it remained the backline amp of choice for pros and amateurs everywhere. Clear, deep and powerful, it produced big tube tone, with world-class Fender reverb and vibrato effects. For countless guitarists ever since, the Twin Reverb has been the go-to amp for classic Fender sound.

The '68 Custom Twin Reverb Amp pays tribute to the classic look, sound and performance of Fender's late-'60s "silver- face" amps. In a special twist, both channels boast reverb and tremolo, and the "custom" channel has a modified Bassman tone stack that gives modern players greater tonal flexibility with pedals. The amp also features quicker gain onset and reduced negative feedback for greater touch sensitivity. The '68 Custom Twin Reverb's dual 12" Celestion G12V-70 speakers also deliver a more distinctively rock ˜n' roll flavor.

Comes equipped with Celestion Speakers (V Type) for a more modern, punchy sound that breaks up nicely when pushed. Reduced negative feedback lends a more "touch-sensitive" feel, quicker break up and added harmonic richness. The shared tremolo on both channels adds to its versatility. Because of this the '68 channels are wired in phase and can be blended for more tonal options, via A/B/Y box. "Custom" channel features a 50s Tweed "Bassman" tone circuit for more low mids and sooner breakup.

The '68s are ideal for players that love their amps to break up a little sooner, rock players, alternative players that like something a little different, players that use pedals, players that love the look of "Silverface" amps.

85 watts into 4 ohms of all-tube power Both channels with reverb and tremolo Custom channel with modified Bassman tone stack Quick gain onset and reduced negative feedback

I have had the amp for about 5 weeks now, and like it better each time I play it. It exhibits the well known characteristics of the legendary Twin Reverb; remarkable clean sound at very loud volume levels, lush reverb and vibrato, and versatile tone manipulation. However, the modifications Fender has made to the preamps sets it apart from it's Blackface equivalent. The sound of both channels is warmer and more differentiated. The Custom channel tone stack in particular complements single coil guitars. Strats, Teles, Jaguars, and Jazzmasters seem like different guitars. Even the normal channel has a bit more midrange. There is none of the overall bright, ice-pick highs that many of contemporary Fender amps project. The Custom '68 evokes the amps of the Brownface era, in smoothness of both sound and response. It also sounds great at low volumes, and does not have to be set at ear-bleed levels to generate pleasing, complex and harmonically rich music. I play mostly Jazz, and this amp excels at referencing the music heard on 50's- early 60's Jazz guitar recordings.

.The Classic Fender Twin done better in most respects. Hey Fender, where did the casters go? Do you really expect us to carry this beast around like a Deluxe? That being said, the Vibrato channel is everything you'd expect from the legendary Twin. Best clean ever (even with Celestions) with warm trem and reverb. Great idea to offer trem and reverb on both channels. Now be careful with this: Fender says the "Bassman/Tweed" circuit on the Normal Channel has "early breakup". Not true. Remember you have no Master Volume on this model. The lowest volume you're gonna get the nice Fendery breakup is at 2 1/2 AND you're gonna need a Tube Screamer type overdrive AND it's gonna be deafening. My wife could hear me down the street while driving home. And no windows were open. For live dirty playing, this amp is for big rooms or outside only. To record dirty, you'll need a Royer R-121 that can handle the db's. Enjoy but beware.

.My problems were solved in a matter of days, I could not be happier with results. Agreat company to buy from.
Fender '68 Custom Twin Reverb 85W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp with Celestion G12V-70s Speaker Black
.This is the amp I would design as the ideal gigging amp. As a musician in an active classic rock band on a US base in Tokyo, this amp has the ideal sound and flexibility for me. One channel is classic Fender blackface, the other, though marketed as 50's Bassman tone, to my ears sounds more like a brighter, cleaner variation of a brownface amp, all wrapped in unique 1968 packaging of silver and turquoise, with drip edge molding and blackline highlighting. To top it off, reverb and tremolo are available on both channels. The amp delivers every sound I need, when it works. I have had two of these amps now. The first was an open box return unit. For three weeks it was the perfect amp. We held band practice twice a week, playing it about two hours at a time with no problem. During the third week, one of the practices was spirited and lasted about three hours. The next morning the amp was dead. Other reviews have noted that this amp has an internal fuse link, prone to overheating and killing the amp. That is apparently what happened with this one when exposed to more than light use. I then "upgraded" to a brand new unit thinking that a quality company, such as Fender, would have addressed the early quality control problems of one of their products, no matter where it is made. The second one lasted approximately five seconds after switching from standby mode to power mode. The amp immediately emitted a very loud hum and the replaceable fuse in the back of the unit burned out. I replaced the fuse three times and had the same results. I bought this amp to take the place of a vintage Fender silverface Twin Reverb, thinking that the new unit would be more reliable. Such is not the case. I am going to return to use of my vintage unit. If you try one of these and get a good unit, you will be pleased. If you do decide to try one of these amps, make sure you buy from a reliable vendor like Custom Guitars Friend that will readily accept returns of defective units.

.As we all know Fender is the sound that's been around for years and in the old days was on most every record you played. This is a great sounding amp . I use mine for home recording and practice. It's a pretty heavy amp to carry around. I had to send my first one back because it had the old 60 cycle hum in the Reverb . It was so loud that at low volume it was louder than the guitar. I'm still waiting for my replacement amp and I hope the next one doesn't have it . I asked if it could be checked before it was shipped and told no so keeping my fingers crossed. If the next one has it again it will also go back but not sure if I'll try for a third .
Fender '68 Custom Twin Reverb 85W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp with Celestion G12V-70s Speaker Black
.I knew after reading the reviews that I might have trouble, but I haven't played a better reasonably priced amp, so I took a chance. Got the first one. My band was super-impressed at the first practice. It sounded amazing. Much more dynamic than my Deluxe Reverb. Unfortunately, the next morning when I turned it on, it made a super-loud hum and went completely dead. It was only three days old with four hours on it, so naturally I returned it.

Got the second one. Unfortunately this one had a loud hum at idle that could be heard from room to room. After playing around a bit, I found it would only hum with the reverb on. Some forum posts said that sometimes Fender puts the reverb tank in backwards, so I turned the tank around so that the plugs faced the front, and no more hum. So now the thing is near perfect.

If it blows up again, I'll return it if I still can. Otherwise, I'll take it in to have it fixed under Fender's five year warranty. Why? Because the tone is worth it. The clean tones are straight from heaven. But It also sounds great with my entire pedal board. We play all-out variety, and I can get just about any tone from this Twin Reverb. It's a perfect mate to my Deluxe Reverb. But to be honest, I probably won't use the Deluxe much going forward, because the Twin is so quiet now. It's fine even in our small practice space.

The build quality is not the best on these amps. But with Custom Guitar's Friend's great customer service, I got a replacement in just seven working days. They paid all of the shipping and they were very nice about it. This was after getting an amazing deal over the Christmas holidays, along with a ton of backstage pass points that should be enough to cover an expensive new pedal. Fender's Five Year Transferable warranty rounds out the safety net. The build quality may not be the best, but both companies are top notch in terms of customer service. Quite a bit of trouble, but still a five star experience in my opinion.

.After reading all the reviews everywhere before I bought the twin reverb I was bit apprehensive about buying it,but I rolled the dice and did because I knew Custom Guitars Friend has a great return policy. I'm so happy that I found an amp that works with every pedal and finally found the amp I've been looking for years to find my sound.
Fender '68 Custom Twin Reverb 85W 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp with Celestion G12V-70s Speaker Black
.The first purchase of this amp had a hiss/crackle noise but under MF excellent return policy was replaced with another of the same type. This one works fine, has plenty of power, excellent tone and 2 channels with separate tone and volume control which was a necessity for me to separate guitar and my guitar synth.
