Product Description

Martin’s Road Series line of guitars features a blend of the legendary Martin tone with solid-wood construction and lightning-fast playability. The Martin DRST2 Dreadnought acoustic electric guitar was designed for the player that is searching for deep, driving Martin tone at an affordable price.

Its all solid-wood construction produces a tone that will rival some of the most expensive guitars made today. To start with, Martin selected a Sitka spruce top as the basis of the tone engine. They chose Sitka spruce because it’s a very expressive tonewood that produces the right amount of tone, volume, and dynamics. To augment the crisp tone of the Sitka spruce, the back and sides is fashioned of Solid Sapele Mahogany. Sapele adds just the right amount of crispness and bass to the sound of the guitar.

Playability is a must for many of today’s musical styles, and Martin got your back. The DRS2 has one of the most comfortable necks on the market. The slimmer profile and taper lets you glide across the neck with ease. You will be able to make a smooth transition from your electric guitar to this acoustic. And as an added bonus, the DRS2 was precision setup with one of Martin’s Plek machines. As one of the last steps in final setup process, Martin uses the Plek machine to give you the ultimate guitar setup. If you were to have a technician Plek one of your guitars, it would cost you anywhere from $250-$400. Martin includes this bonus on every Road Series guitar for free. If you’re a fingerstyle player, professional, novice, or singer songwriter, you are going to love the way this guitar sounds and plays.

The Martin DRS2 comes complete with Fishman Sonitone electronics. This compact, easy-to-use electronics package lets you plug in and play. There’s no need for you to spend hours getting a great guitar sound. Just plug in, and you’re ready to go. For easy access, the volume and tone controls are positioned directly in the soundhole of the guitar. This gives you the ability to make changes to your tone in real time.

Martin Dreadnought
Martin invented the dreadnought guitar in 1916 for an East Coast music chain called the Oliver Ditson Company. Back then, players were using smaller, parlor-type guitars that featured more treble and midrange frequencies. Parlor guitars had bass, but it was balanced into the sound. These guitars responded more like a classical guitar, where all the tone was even and balanced. The dreadnought was designed to complement the balanced tone of a smaller instrument, by adding a bump to the bass of the guitar. Dreadnoughts are punchy, and offer payers a broad dynamic range. You can really hit a Martin dreadnought, and the sound will grow the harder you play. Play it softly with a vocal accompanist, and it will blend perfectly with your voice. If you’re playing in a band, The Martin dreadnought has got you covered with the right amount of bass, midrange, and treble. And it can get as loud as you can play. The combination of tonewoods and body produces an instrument that is extremely expressive and dynamic.

I can't seem to put this guitar down. I have always loved that Martin growling bass. Seems very well balanced. Picked up for a song blemished from MF. For the money I don't think you could go wrong. And if you think twice about it being made in Mexico who cares if its Juan with the Mexico address or Juan that lives in the PA? I believe they have trained the personal down there very well. Neck BTW in 2016 is solid wood (sipo) and as smooth as silk. Quality tuners stay in tune well and the fret board is fast. Hope it lasts as long as ebony but only time will tell.

.When the DRS1 first came out, I bought one and liked it a great deal. Then the DRS2 came out and I knew I needed to try one of those, too. I am very pleased with this series, this family of guitars from Martin. The necks are strong, the bodies make a good warm sound. Each has its own voice with the Sapele vs the Sitka Spruce tops. The DRS2 has a great voice, good depth along with fine trebles, the neck is fast, I like the fretboard material, its great that they come with a case. All in all they are a very good product. If mine was stolen, I'd want to replace it with another, but I'd really miss it.

.I prefer mahogany guitars over rosewood, and this is the entry point for a solid wood mahogany Martin, I bought a D 15M, but it was "too" mahogany, lacking in brightness or projection. This guitar is a more balanced tone and definitely is louder. Mine has the mahogany neck (not stratobond), and Martin moved the output jack lower on the side bout (so stepping on the cord onstage will unplug it rather than major calamity!...plus the new location allows normal strap attachment to the end pin (no need to hog-out the hole to fit over a jack).

.I bought this guitar over a year ago. Play it pretty much every day at home and at gigs. Can't beat it. Great sound and easy on the fingers.

.I had the DRS2 about a week, and liked it so much I decided to "go all in" for the mahogany sound, and bought the new, more expensive D15M Shaded. Well, after a full day of "A-B" ing them side by side, I am sending the beautiful D15 back (sure do like that sultry, dark shaded finish). The DRS is louder, clearer. and has that Burly Martin bass in spades. I really wanted to keep the D15, but there is no denying the DRS's superiority in volume, and tone.
Mine has a one piece mahogany neck, although some web sites say it comes with Stratabond neck. Both guitars look almost identical from the rear, except the DRS has black binding, whereas the D15 is unbound. The DRS comes with a Fishman Sonotone pickup, the D15 has none. (Am personally not a fan of piezo pickups, however. I will put a LR Baggs in the soundhole if I decide to amplify it). Both guitars came with high action, which a lower saddle brought around to my liking.

.Love this guitar!
Played this side by side with a D28 and a Gibson Hummingbird. Could not believe that a guitar sounded so good, at a third of the price.
Amazing Guitar!

I've been looking at this guitar and the reviews for some time now and finally decided to buy. I live in NY in the winter and when the box got here, I acclimated it to my house for 48 hours as per instructed. In three days the top of the guitar bowed downward enough to bend the fretboard down so that the strings were hitting the frets. I am very disappointed that I cannot use this Martin guitar in less than optimal conditions. 20 percent humidity and 75 degrees, which it usually is in the house in the winter, heat with a woodstove.
Also, the finish on the back and sides, although pretty is not smooth on the entire surface, almost feeling like paint overspray.
