This bass is simply awesome. The neck may be the best I have ever played, its contour, thickness, and satin finish on the back are perfect.
I was hesitant about it being built in indonesia, but the build qualtity and materials equal that of my Japanese Ibanez and American Gibson, both of which cost far more than twice as much.
The sound of the Ash/Maple Body is very punchy and poppy. If you play funk, this is it, the sound versatility of the electronics allows you to dial in any sound you would like though. This bass features the same electronics of other esp models costing almost twice as much, along with the sound quality to match.
Now for the one niggle... the satin finish of the maple top may not be for everyone, and is not well repersented by the photos online. I really like the spalded maple top, but the raw satin finish just didnt do it for me. The good news is an hour of polishing the maple top gave the lovely shine I was expecting from the online photos, while still retaining the perfered satin finsh on the back and neck.
The bottom line is this bass is worth every penny and then alot more. Highly recommended.

.This bass sounds fantastic; especially for the price. The neck is fast and feels great. The ash body is light, its seriously one of my favorite woods; the spalted maple top looks incredible. It is seriously much better looking in your hands than in the pictures on here. I played it through an Ampeg 15" combo, with GHS Coated Boomers Medium Light strings (the sit strings are ok too) and Vox's Professional Bass Guitar Cable. I played around with it for about 10 minutes and then found exactly the sound I wanted. Would recommend to anyone.

.This bass is a steal. She rings nicely, has a super big low-end, Nice sustain and a comtorable build. She feels great in the hands and has a nice weight to her, The wood finish is a nice touch too. You're crazy if you don't buy this bass. Total steal, and this is from a dedicated DEAN player.
The wood on the neck of this little gem is probably one of the most comftorable i've ever played on, the neck itself is a nice size for my hands, and it's a slick puppy. Slid down that neck effortlessly. The Bass itself has a nice chunky punch with not so much low end that it wants to blow your speaker out, Although the power that it has will do just that.
Probably one of THE BEST basses i've played, It has a nice weight, No corners seemed to be cut and it rings nicely.
For the price tag, It's a steal. Only reason I don't have her now is because I was broke at the time. Worth more than a money in my opinion, Better than a lot of P-basses and Gibsons i've played.

.At the end of the day, it's all about the sound. This bass has enough big bottom to support any style of music, and enough clean tone to cut through where it needs to. Perfect for small ensemble playing. I would recommend it for any intermediate to advanced player.
A friend of mine bought the 6-string version, and I liked it so much I ordered one. (six strings is 2 strings too many, IMHO - I'm classically trained). I've had my ESP LTD B-204SM for about 3 weeks now, and I must say it continues to impress. I can get any sound out of this bass that I want, from a mellow groove to a slappy funk. The balance is perfect, the neck is true and workable. The six bolt construction provides excellent sustain. I can get this bass to do things that I would expect of basses costing 2 to 3 times as much. Haven't gigged with it yet, but that's coming this weekend and I know it won't disappoint.

I didn't think I'd like the smaller tuners on this bass, (I'm used to Fender, Squire and Rickenbacker) but they seem to do the job.

Everyone should have basses with active and passive electronics in their collection, and I can recommend this one wholeheartedly. I play through a small Crate amp, though I'm sure some more watts and a 15" speaker would do it justice.
The finish is very good, though satin is not my favorite. The spalted maple is gorgeous. Nothing else in my collection looks like this one. The controls are silent, and it holds its tune very well. The only complaint I have is that the volume knob came off in my hand and I needed to tighten it.
Excellent bass for the money. Like I said above, this instrument plays and sounds like a much more expensive piece. Why pay 8 or 9 hundred?

The 5 pice neck on this bass is fast and smooth. The neck is a bolt on but it's set deep into the body of the bass there are no dead spots on the neck The 3 band EQ and the active electronics are great and the finish is amazing.
This bass is a quality instrument it's built like a tank. I've only had it for 2 weeks and I would replace it if something happened to it. The stock S.I.T. strings are good and the setup on the bass is good right out of the box.
I would have paid a lot more for this bass. if you are thinking about buying this bass BUY IT.
