Played classical acoustic for 35 years and occasional bass. Been playing a reg 4 string bass for about a year in a 3 piece band. Couldn't find an 8 string to try so I bought this one on line and I am blown away by the easy way it plays. Was comfortable after just a few hours. Awesome tone and action. Came set up perfect for me. No trip to the guitar dr. For this kind of money you absolutely will not go wrong. If you want to double your sound and really fill in the dead spots, trust me, go for this bass. 5 stars all around and it was delivered in flawless condition a day early!!! Love it!

.ESP B-208FM 8-String Bass with Flamed Maple TopThis bass was made for the power trio. This bass has a beautiful top and nice balance for a bass in this price range. But the real fun came when I plugged this puppy in. My test rig was Gk Backline 600w head through a 4x12 cab. Similar to a 12str guitar played through a sub octave pedal. Nice harmonics and when you kick in the overdrive, look out! fire your rhythm guitar player and get yourself the B-208FM.

.I got that Dean Rhapsody 12 (on ebay). It sounded good, but I later found out that I couldn't play it very fast so I got this bass. The extra strings (that are one octave above the main ones)effected my speed not too much, and I sound better than ever. So my advice to those decinding to buy either a 12ver or a 8ter, the 12vers sound better but the 8ters you can play faster. I used a two amp rig (1Marshall, 1Ampeg). If you don't have that kinda of money you can get a couple of Fender amps and pedals and it will still sound good.

.About 3 years ago I joined a three piece rock group. As every musician knows, with a 3 piece band, there is an empty spot. After I played the 8 string bass, I felt it would add to the sound, and fullness,of the band, which it did. I found the esp lost bottom (fatness) when adjusting the settings to make the highs come across. If you purchase a bass driver or exciter pedal, it will take care of the above problem. Another problem I found, is I could not find the same scale strings that come on the E.S.P. from the factory. It seems that replacement strings are a heavier scale, which makes the action tougher around f & g. Instead of fighting with the action, it was very easy to rework the top nut, and deepen the string slot. Take your time with the nut, or the intination will be way off when bounging off the frets. A little adjustment goes a long way. Keep all of he hardware tight. it takes getting used to but so do new shoes. its a good guitar, with its own personality, and sound.

.I just played this bass today, and I loved it. The previous 8 string that I played slowed me down to much. I play mainly funk stuff, like Victor Wooten, and some of his stuff you can't do on it (like the thumb double pick stuff). But with some slight adjustments, you can play most everything funk on it. It takes some getting used to, but it adds another dimension to your playing that you can't get any other way.

.I was very impressed with the quality of this instrument. I was somewhat hesitant to buy an 8-string since I had never played one before. I got it and it is fairly easy to play and has an awesome sound. I play to buy another ESP bass soon.

.Active electronics leave a little to be desired, otherwise, it's a great instrument.

.The one I have is a little old but still good bass player can play on any bass.
ESP B-208FM 8-String Bass with Flamed Maple Top See-Thru Black
.If you've read some of my other revues, you'll see that I sometimes modify instruments. Well, I did that with the B-208 I just got but this time only with the strings. I put the regular bass strings in the positions of the smaller octave strings and put on new, big fat strings to play in the regular string positions. In other words, I dropped the entire bass down one full octave. The new primary string are now .165-.135-.110-.087. Yes, it's still tuned E-A-D-G, but it's a contra-bass now. It is still very clear and has good sustain 'though it now has a very dark tone. I did all the research first to make sure this would work. The action is still nice and low, and it's a real pleasure to play. Also, I can answer those boom-box cars that go through the neighborhood now and then. I considered a couple of other basses, but this one was the most solid one and had the widest neck for the modification. Thank you, ESP and thank you, Custom Guitar's Friend. By the way, I STRONGLY recommend you know what you're doing and have some decent experience and the right tools before you attempt even a relatively easy mod such as this one. It doesn't take much to ruin a perfectly good instrument.
