Before using these I used the standard 1.5mm JazzIII as well as the 1mm Big Stubbys. I'm a jazz player but I've always found the "jazz" picks a bit cumbersome, specifically the width. The thick jazz picks make it a lot harder to comp, especially beyond the 10th fret. The wide picks just get a little to bright and brittle for me.
These AAL picks are really a great middle ground between the 1mm and up "jazz" picks and traditional, floppy thin picks you find everywhere.
They're flexible enough that you don't feel like the pick is getting in your way but just hard enough to get really clear articulation when doing single-note runs or chord-melody stuff high up the neck. Also the flexibility is helpful when comping chords, at least for me.
