I recieved this instrument just recently and, I was very pleased. For the money spent it is a good value. MF always comes through with a Great deal, I've never had any complaints. Intonation was spot on, I lowered the action and tweaked the truss rod very slightly and, that's all. Plugged it into my amp checked the electronics and, played this black beauty for about 2hrs. clean and, overdrive absolutely no complaints. I did add a dunlop strap lock to front part of the guitar just because of the sharp angle that the strap has when attached. The feel of the satin neck is Great and, after lowering the action playing was a pure pleasure. I have a flying V and, many other instruments and, this purchase was mainly to add to my collection. I'm looking forward to this weekends gig to giving it a workout. I always the enjoy the challenge of playing a new and different instrument. Compared to a Strat or a LP it definately has a different feel and look but, don't let that hang you up this is really cool guitar and fun to play. I wasn't sure about the absence of the fret board markers but, it has markers on the side and, that's all you really need anyway. The neck really looks cool without them and, the XII marker on the 12th fret is very distinctive. I am glad that I own this instrument and, would recommend it to anyone looking for an explorer type guitar.

.Overall this guitar is solid. Personally i like the finish because i hate glossy necks. the pickups produce very little noise so thats always a plus, although i'll probably switch them out for something a bit more metal. overall though i love this guitar and would certainly recomend it anyone considering it.

.Lets keep in mind the price of the guitar during ratings. For what you pay, I am REALLY thoroughly happy with this thing. Found one mint on Craigslist for half the price of new (w/case!) so I just had to snap it up. I had a Gibson explorer at the same time I had this so I was lucky enough to be able to compare. For playing metal, this thing was definitely better than the stock Gibson. Cleaner tones went to the Gibson, however, but nothing wrong with the Gothic's cleans. Also, FYI Epi's necks are narrower than Gibby's. Intonation is great and stays in tune rather well even through aggressive bending. Action 'might' be able to improve a tad if I spent the $$ for a pro to do but its comfortable to play as is. On mine, the 3 way switch acts up a bit on the neck position, it goes dead and you gotta wiggle it. DON'T BE AFRAID to buy this guitar. A great beginner or lower-intermediate guitar and if your taste in sound changes you can always swap electronics but this guitar is SOLID. I've heard this thing destroys all forms of life when paired up with Invaders or EMGs. I really like the bare fretboard with the "XII" inlay. It is also MANDATORY that you must remove the upper strap button and relocate it where a Gibson's would be for balance. The stock location is so horrible I can't imagine why its there. Make sure you drill a pilot hole first so you don't split the wood when driving in the screw!

.If you play on stage, you probably have the tech knowledge to fix any deficiencies with ease so you cannot go wrong buying this guitar. I enjoy working on my guitars as much as I enjoy playing them so I have thoroughly enjoyed this axe. I could not get a better deal anywhere else. If you are a beginner and you have to have this guitar...buy it, then take it to your local tech and have him/her set it up for you FIRST...or you may face disappointment. Once it's set up, it is a rocking guitar!
The Alnico Classic humbuckers are decent. They are nothing spectacular but set up properly, they will do their job well. I think that the kill switch was kind of a cool feature to play with, but I really don't mess with it too much. The body is slightly out of balance so the head will dive a little if you let go of the neck. It is a comfortable guitar to play, standing or sitting. The satin finish was deffinitely a good move for those that travel the neck alot. Having only the 12th fret inlayed is no biggie because there are side markers for those that need them. I think that the placement of the forward strap mount may cause you to drop it when the strap slips off, however, if it were mounted behind the front of the body the neck would probably dive hard. I have had no issues at all with the tuners. The nut however, has been the bane of my existance. The string action off the nut (on mine) is way too high.
The quality if this axe is more than fair. Once you fix tech issues, it is extremely fun to play and it really feels good. More time should have been spent at the factory making minor adjustmants to the intonation, the nut, the action, and the finish. Why the finish? I removed the truss cover to make an adjustment to the neck and the finish was some kind of sloppy, cracked and untrimmed. That is deffinitely a QC issue, but it (finish issue) doesn't show nor does it affect the sound of the guitar.
I paid a great price for this guitar and honestly, I'm not sorry. Despite the issues it came with from the factory, I love it and play it every chance I get.

.I got mine on a scratch'n'dent sale. I loved the look of it from day one and now after many modifications I love how it sounds. One persistent problem though has been string buzz and even now after many saddle height and truss rod adjustments there is still some buzz with a standard action on the 10th & 11th fret of the low E and the 21st & 22nd fret of the high E. Maybe the frets are uneven which I gather is a common problem with EE-Epiphone-e. Maybe I'll get that done someday but even now the guitar is extremely playable. The stock pickups were very decent for a sub 500$ guitar but the volume pots sucked. The mods were: Seymour Duncan SH 6 pickups, Dimarzio 500 k pots, killswitch and copper shielding of the cavities. It sounds beautiful now..

To start, I own the Gibson version of this guitar and counting this one, I own 8 all together. I play exclusively through Crate amps. First impression was that the stock pickups did not provide enough high's compared to the Gibson. BOTH Gibson and EE-Epiphone-e in this line I think try to accentuate the lows for the Death/Goth metal sound. Neither guitar rests well for individuals lacking a long reach and the finish feels cheap on both but are easy to clean/maintain. If I were to face a choice based on performance and price, I would sooner buy the EE-Epiphone-e and snatch up some decent pickups and still be ahead financially. The store must have set this one up fully as I encountered no fret buzz using a light guage string (9-46) and slightly higher action than I use with my other guitars. In my honest opinion, this guitar overall, performs very well for the home musician beginner or intermediate. I have owned and played MANY guitars both vintage and new, and can truely say buying the Gibson would not be much of an improvement!

.I never thought this guitar would be very nice or sound good because its like a lesser gibson.... I have changed my mind big time.. a friend of mine bought one and this thing is amazing
Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar Black
.This is my baby!!!! I bought it about six years ago and have never been more pleased. The only downfalls are the pickups the biggie is that it is very neck heavy I was gonna put a weight in it but there is no room to fit one so I went and bought a really expensive leather strap and that took care of the problem. Take it to a shop to intonated and adjusted as soon as you get it!! mine had a fret buzz had the truus adjusted all is great I would take it over a high priced explorer any day
Epiphone Goth 1958 Explorer Electric Guitar Black
.I'd like to start by saying this guitar is not clean or quality in tone, I played this while at a local guitar shop and I was not impressed in the slightest, on top of extremely poor tone and sound it had a heavy body which didn't comply with the neck, as soon as I played it I out it right down and moved on, if you want a quality guitar you could easily buy a epiphone les paul standard for a bit cheaper.
