Product Description

The EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e MM-30S mandolin features a Solid Spruce top that will actually improve in tone over time, a highly-prized trait of better acoustic instruments.

Old world heritage
From its humble 19th Century beginnings in Greece with founder Anastasios Stathopoulo, he and his sons took the turn-of-the-century Manhattan family luthier business into a world-renown fretted instrument maker and innovator. In fact, some of the original "A. Stathopoulo" round-back mandolins are some of the most prized, rare vintage mandolins in existence. In the late 50's, another famous fretted instrument company known for mandolins, Gibson, purchased EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e and assured the continuance of the family mandolin legacy.

Time-honored craftsmanship
The EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e MM-30S is an easily recognized "A" style or "teardrop" mandolin, expertly constructed with a Mahogany body and set, Mahogany neck, providing warm acoustic tone. The "bite" if the mandolin's sound is from its Solid Spruce top, which will only sound better as it matures, as the wood fibres continue to contract and surplus moisture content eveporates. It also features the traditional floating Rosewood bridge, Rosewood fingerboard, Gold hardware and Tortoise pickguard emblazoned with the iconic EE-EE-Epiphone-e-e "E" and comes in Antique Sunburst finish. It is also available with a built-in bridge piezo pickup as the MM-30E.

Backed by the best

Pretty good mandolin. I've owned it for about 6 months and the tone of the instrument has definitely gotten better with age. I'm mostly a bluegrass guitar player so the transition to mandolin was easy. I've played Gibsons and this matches up pretty good to the tone for the price. Great value for the price. You will not be dissappointed.

.I bought this mandolin mid-november, and the first time I picked it up, it sounded amazing. Tuning can be time-consuming, though, if you have an untrained ear or a bad tuning device. But overall, I would recommend this mandolin to any of my friends.
Epiphone MM-30S Mandolin Antique Sunburst
.Sure one can by up to a more quality instrument at 3 times the cost, but the MM 30S stands up to them all. Even the more expensive ones. I replaced the strings with D'Addario J74's and we are on a roll. Affordable entry level or used for most gigs. Like anything else one can always up grade, but unless you are playing professional and simply playing gigs and having fun, this is a sweet instrument at a great price.

.I've been playing guitar for years and wanted to explore deeper into the realm of stringed instruments. This Epi MM30 is a great starter instrument. The factory strings suck though. I put on a new set of Martins and the sound quality is tremendously better. Sounds awesome with medium pick. Frets finger easily. Great instrument for the price! Gonna practice, practice, practice so I can work up to that $4000+ Gibson!

.This was a store demo mandolin that was advertised in "very good" condition. It exceeded my expectations! The mandolin is in beautiful shape, it looks brand new and sounds great. I couldn't be more pleased, and Custom Guitar's Friend is a pleasure to do business with!

.Just received my MM-30 a few days ago. This mandolin is WORTH THE PRICE! I compared it to the Rogue, and you can tell a difference in the sound. The EE-Epiphone-e has a warmer sound, and looks nicer. Might as well spend the money on this, rather than the Rogue. Everything looks great, and sounds great!

.this is the best mandolin for the money in fact you will not find another at this price anywhere. I was very fearfull of buying on line;I need to play and see first hand to buy sonething as personal as A musical instrument. I took the chance and I am very pleased with this m30 epi mandolin. It's well made the finish is great the craftmanship is top shelf as I would expect from epiphone equipment. This mandolin has A very important part and that is A truss rod to adjust the neck when the wood moves.I't plays great the action is low making it easy to cord. All I had to do is tune an play.So if you want A good mandolin for A great price this is the one.

.i got this mandolin because i needed something to mess around with, and this mandolin was worth the price! the only problem was it took a very long time to tune the strings, but it finally stayed in tune. i am very pleased with this instrument.
Epiphone MM-30S Mandolin Antique Sunburst
.I have the MM30e/as model which has the piezo pickup under the bridge. The tone of this mandolin is excellent, probably because of the body material being mahogany which gives it a warmer tone than maple. All of the frets were fine, no buzzing, and the gold hardware and vintage logo on the headstock are nice appointments. I put on new stings and was very pleased with the tone, which should only get better. A lot of value for not much money!
Epiphone MM-30S Mandolin Antique Sunburst
.I'm a live sound engineer that used to play guitar and suddenly got a hankering to pick up the mandolin. So I just received the MM-30 last week. I had some trouble setting it up because the bottom strings wouldn't stay anchored in the tailpiece. I took it to a pro today and he found that both hooks on the thing had broken. Cheap metal. I understand this is a starter instrument, but come on EE-Epiphone-e, it at least needs to hold the strings in place. Instead of going through the hassle of sending it back and have more cheap metal put on, I'm having the guy just put on another tailpiece, which means the MM-30 will cost me at least $40 more.I'm still looking forward to playing my mandolin, though this is a dissappointing start. I think my review was generous. I guess just buy at your own risk. For the few moments I could strum it, it sounded quite nice.
